Thank you for sharing such a great experience. My wife and I were day hikers. We are both retired. We hiked in Yosemite a year ago and she was having some knee problems. Fast forward to December 6,2021. She was diagnosed with ALS. She is totally disabled now. The bucket list I had for retirement ended in a few short months. We have had a life of adventure and those memories will never die. You have made more memories on this trip than most will make in a lifetime. Hang on to them.

Julia. As an old man that’s still hiking at 81 I can tell you that making your health a number one priority is the correct thing to do. You will be fine and will hike many more miles or whatever you decide for your future. I / we certainly appreciate what you and Cory have presented us. Thank you so much and mend fast and be well.
Also, didn’t you complete a portion of the PCT SOBO earlier?

Julia, Sam’s dad here again….Your decision to stop at mile 2000 is absolutely the correct decision. I’m sorry to hear that your journey is on hold (for now….). But if I may share my perspective on how you have inspired others, what your attitude and trail manners have created for so many, what sharing your creative side has done for others, and what your overall kindness has meant to others along your entire journey. Anyone who has followed along knows what I’m talking about, and it shows way more than you know. Anyone who you’ve inspired to get out there, to move, to adventure, or just to dream from their living room…..should be thankful to you for your honest and gutsy resilience. I am proud to say….I am one of them! Thank you for being you, for being a true friend to Sam and Moriah…and know that you have an open invitation and a welcoming new family here in NH.

I hope you start to feel so much relief. Soon! Best wishes, vibes and prayers for that!!
You do not need to explain. I believe you show a strong soul in doing what is best for you. That is more courageous than pushing, dangerously, to finish.
I got off trail due to COVID-which turned out to be long COVID after starting out “knowing” I was going to finish my second Thruhike…I felt embarrassed and like a failure when I got sick and started to not be able to hike more than a few (10 -15 w fever). (My husband and) I continued to try to get back to trail, but then the coughing and chest pressure every time I tried to breathe was too much, even on solid ground.
Generally for nearly 3months now I have had trouble breathing. I am so happy to hear this from you- NOT that you got off trail, but that you are so happy and content doing so for your health. I KNOW awe did the right thing, but I was struggling with the decision. I literally feel good enough to attempt to hike. Now. Literally 3 months after COVID began. But there is no way we could complete the trail right now. We had decided to attempt the OCT to get a little trial run on the hiking legs and it is close to our friends and family just in case it is still too early…so when you all popped on, we were so excited!! We are going to start Monday!! Please send us any tips or suggestions 😊
We are going to try the Superior Trail after- Northern MN in the fall? Stunning!! Then if all goes well, go on to some longer trails…and hopefully carry on hiking til next PCT season.
We wish you the best! If you are ever back “on the trail”, look out for Reroute and Atlas 😎

Julia, totally get it hon. Your health is the upmost importance!!!! My sadness is that I have been on this journey since the beginning, so you two will be missed. YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION PERIOD!

100% support for your decision. Have always enjoyed your content. As an older person with a recent diabetes diagnosis getting into backpacking, your decision is very wise and inspiring. Thank you for taking care of yourself and setting a premier example. Good luck in your endeavors and I look forward to following your next adventure, whatever it may be.

Hey, u have a lot of grit. Nothing to apologize for. Seems amazing you stayed on trail with the bladder issue. I’ve been thru hiking since 2014 & the trail community is the top reason I keep doing it. So, thx for the ride.
