The way you tested this plugin is not really fair. You just pushed 10 db of gain into the limiter until the signal started breaking and then compared it to something else. But in a real life situation no one in his right mind pushes a limiter on the mixbus that hard. The way you handled this test, any "transparent" limiter would have been "snake oil". Fair would have been to find the sweat spot for both and check the lufs values and see which one performs better. But THIS? This is some clickbait bs!
10 Db is a lot in a Mastering scenario but i have witnessed it very often. And why should he not push it to the Limits? It`s like you are telling me that if you test a sports car you shouldn`t try it`s limits on a race track to see how it holds together cause it will have better grip if driven more slowly. There are Limiters that simply don`t distort at 10 db gain. Believe it or not
You did not compare to same style algorithm. It should be clip mode not suppress to really compare it as fab is in clip mode. I love your videos but this is not fair.
You can't even compare 2 Limiters to begin with. That's like comparing 2 people's fingerprints. It can only be possible if Waves or Izotope etc, for example share the same recipe e.g The Algorithm to make a limiter. And that's not going to happen. Period!
I'm a big fan of the AOM Invisible Limiter G2, tbh I've been using it in combination with Pro-L2 and instead of having one limit pretty hard, I have these two both limiting more subtle and I like what it sounds like on my Drum & Bass music. I agree tho, that text on their site is not what the thing actually sounds like haha
Is it $119 good? How is it different than two instances of Pro-L on top of each other? Just curious. This is the last thing on my list of things that cost over $100 I have to have.
@@xaosnox i have many Limiters of this kind-level. In short. NO it is NOT worth 119. If you want the best Limiter for reasonable money buy Tdr Limiter 6 Ge. To Invisible limiter now. I own the G2 version which cost 200 $ when i bought it 1-2 years ago. Today i wouldn`t buy it. Dmg Limitless is a lot better, Newfangled (Eventide) Elevate is much better, Pro L2 is much better, Ozone 8 Maximizer is better (and you get a whole mastering suite with 250) , Melda mUltramaximizer is better. The AOM Invisible limiter is very nice depending on the program but not if you push it to extremes. If you keep things "civilised" then it can sound very subtle and good. Then it distorts pretty fast (compared to the other "high end" limiters i mention). the Invisible limiter is Single band and even though sometimes you will want 1 band , it is completely overpriced by todays standards. It is not a "Last stop" tool like the Dmg Limitless is. Don`t buy it. as i said Limiter 6 Ge if you are on a budget . Oh! Almost forgot! And Toneboosters Barricade 4 is awesome for the 30-40 euros it asks for. Plus i completely dislike the AOM policy where you are not allowed to resell your licence and things like that.
Sorry, nur I honestly think there's no point in combining 2 different Limiters...because they can't be that different. It's all Math and it's always the same maths for everyone! In the analogue domain you may have different resistor and OP amp builds and they may sound different, but in the digital world it 'should ' be the same unless they tinker somewhere they shouldn't tinker. And when you have a Compressor, limiter or maximizer which 'sounds' besides it's primarily use then it's not a good one in my opinion.
Obviously it colours the sound. It's naive to think any limiter wouldn't colour the sound. The name 'invisible limiter' isn't mean to be taken literally, it's just super transparent, hence the name
Interesting that you didn't hear pro L2 distorting like hell and didn't try to optimize its settings. Especially lookahead, release and the used algorithm. But this seems obsolete nowadays. I've seen many so called Limiter tutorials where experts did nothing but pulling up one fader. I'd like you to seriously check out TDR Limiter 6 ... its demo doesn't create noise but forces you to really go into it and to learn at least 'something' about proper limiting. And after that look back at all these "limiterations". But on the other hand, if you don't hear obvious distortions ... :/
I'm using the AOM invisible limiter for almost any limiting. Invisible it is, because this plugin limits the hell out of your material... Without any noticeable coloring... Compared to other limiters. Imo it's the most "in your face" limiter there is atm. My friend uses the waves L2 before the AOM to get the little extra gain. But the ultimate weapon is... The stealth limiter from T-Racks in combination with the AOM. Nothing beats the loudness without distorting!
I've been using AOM Invisible for years after previously having the likes of L2, which I hated, and Elephant which was really difficult to use at the time. The real test is to use the unity gain so you can compare against the bypassed signal. You'll then hear how it does and doesn't affect the sound. Within sensible boundaries it's very difficult to hear it at work. If you know how to mix you can get -10LUFS easily without more than a few db's of gain reduction. More than enough Luffage for a rough boost, and I notice more and more records mastered around this level. I often use SIR Standard Clip shaving off some peaks beforehand which is also heralded for it's transparency. Perhaps another review for you to do!
This is a Flawed Test because Fab-Filter responds different to the algorithm you choose and not only that but the attack and release times will give you a different sound even if you chose a different algorithm. This is the same as comparing Izotope IRC 3 to IRC 4 it's just a plain stupid idea!
Not the best test, but better than their text on the site lol. I’m a big fan of the AOM limiter. I’ve tried using the same gain settings with pro L (aggressive algorithm) and with the invisible limiters clip algorithm. And then checked with izotope insight 2. AOM always got it slightly louder while retaining the original sound. Every single time I tested on multiple songs. I personally apply gain with the invisible limiter, with the thru algorithm so it does not limit. Then use a pro L and mess with the algorithms to see which works best for the song. AOMs gain makes it much louder then Pro L does the proper limiting. It works very well for me :)
You should have tested the G2 and engaged unity gain monitoring + 512x oversampling to compare, as well as the different limiting modes (Modern / Clipping). It´s one of the best limiters, even used by Bob Katz etc.
This was a really superficial comparison and not very useful IMO. It would have been more interesting to hear the difference at various different settings.
How much is this? Toneboosters Barricade (30 dollars?) or the oldie freebie W1 Limiter. I don't buy waves plugins because of their app, which crashes everytime. Not worried though lol

Man, I really like your videos but now it feels that all you do is pretty much "yup, that's not analog... doesn't sound like my Neumann console". That's not really fair since probably alot of producers/engineers watching your videos are most likely using 100% VST's while mixing/mastering etc. Sure, I also get your selling point out of this 'attitude' towards most VST's since it can bring you 1 or 2 more customers for mix projects. But keep in mind that I usually click your videos to actual get an decent review and something to compare with (through words) - not "Their English sucks and the VST itself colors"... Nice video! Reliable as always and with something to learn! I do think, as well, that to test a limiter you have to push it really hard, just like you did. Some engineers say that the PSP Xenon Limiter, when set to "transient detection C" or "smooth", sounds better (more organic, analog etc.) than the Fabfilter on tracks with acoustic or orchestral instruments. It would be nice if you check it out, cause you can really tell the truth :-)
Err why did you set it to suppress? That is not how you tested the fabfilter, it should be the clip setting :) Invisible limiter is by far easier to push volume higher without colouration or artefacts. I have tried brainworkx, fabfilter, waves, izotope and several others... none come close for pushing the volume and having minimal artefacting.
Yes. Now everyone should politely ignore the fact that the invisible limiter works best as a clipper with the "clip" setting instead of "supress". Besides, what is this comparison? You take some crap song and put a limiter on it. You give + 10db on both plugins and that's it? A really great comparison ...
I recommend trying the Traktion Daw Essentials pack... mostly because the compressor and the limiter are realllllly good despite how simple they look. I literally get more transparency and loudness than the pro-L with the traktion limiter! there's a free demo!
Hello SO, I am an ,astering engineer from Russia, I can say from the experienced side, the invisible limiter loses the quality of the Fabfilter L(2,3), I heard a lot of controversy on this score, but the figure in numbers and by ear speaks firmly... thanks for this video
TBH I've been doing a lot of research and testing and it seems that many of the top used limiter thin out the sound. FabFilter ProL2 does this a lot on metal mixes. The bass all but disappears compared to Vevo2 or the top dog so far, Weiss $500 limiter which so far is the best sounding one. I would use Vevo2 instead of Fabfilter ProL2. Used to use Invisible Limiter back in 2011 or so, but not in along time. At the same time I haven't used just 1 limiter for any song ever so... Usually use about 3 limiters for a song, sometimes 2 will do, sometimes 4. Sometimes will use multiple versions of the same limiter. With that all said and done basically I think FabFilter's stuff is overrated IMO. New EQ is nice but that's it for me. I wouldn't push 10db of gain into a single limiter. Max would be 6-7db of reduction depending on the limiter. But most cats have bad rooms, and master/mix on KRK's so they wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway! Carry on....
you wanna know a limiter that will put these 2 limiters in the Garbage???? The Limiter no6!!!!! no limiter can beat that limiter plus its free save your damn money, shout outs to VladG for making the best limiter and giving it for free
I've tried a bunch of these limiters and still prefer Pro-L, even to Pro-L2 for transparency. That being said, Thomas Mundt's free limiter is pretty good - well worth trying out. Maybe a Pro-L2/Loudmax shootout would be interesting :)
Love the video, took me a while to get it to pause at just the right frame to read "My girlfriend can't…". But, once again, no link to the plugin in the description. THAT is annoying. Also, I'm still waiting for you to discover that "UI" button in REAPER that gets rid of the interface and just gives you sliders. Also, next to it is a great little knob for a wet/dry mix on every single plugin. Even if a plugin sucks, REAPER makes it better!
Sorry to say that but this video is not the best of yours. And as a result your comparison and the conclusion after it are totally inadequate. But at least one thing I've learnt from your comparison))) I definitely not gonna exchange my Invisible thing ) for FF PRO L2.Thanks for that ))))) Anyway, I love your other videos. Please, keep going.
I sort of understand the logic of plugin manufacturers putting that annoying periodic noise in their demos. On the other hand, it's hard to really evaluate a demo with that annoying periodic noise, so it's also great way to put off and lose potential customers.
Use oversampling 16 x on AOM Invisible Limiter and it will be more transparent... Some friend told me it is a psy-trance producer from Israel that made this limiter ....
Lot of people are cracking down on you and bitching. Be happy their are people online showing you the product and there thoughts even if you do or don’t agree with what they have to say. Their are far to many people bitching about RUclips rather than using the “perfect limiter” I love all the tools they make these days and use them. Most people on the other hand worry more about plugins fixing a mix rather than helping the mix. I run into this all the time. People come in the studio and are like make me sound like Nicki Minaj or a band say make me sound like Metallica. Yet, what have they done to sound like that artist? It’s like do you hit you drums hard like Lars? Is you flow like Niki? No? Well no plugin is gonna get you all the way there. What might get you a million miles closer is sound replacer or a drummer that does. Same with Niki. Let’s work on getting a great performance and start from there :)
The only limiter I´ve tried that is anything close to "invisible" is the IK multimedia stealth limiter. Obviously, when pushed over the top no limiter will be "invisible" though
yes, that instruction manual / product descriptor was written by a nonm-native english speaker....a bad one, similar to many of the instruction manuals we get from China....
Invisible Limiter is one of the best in the world. The G2 is probably the best out there. Fabfilter Pro L 2 is also good but Invisible Limiter is in a different league for many different reasons. Funny the Waves plugins often do very well for you. So AOM and Acustica Audio are "snake oil" but Waves CLA and Mixhub are not? Are you kidding? Are you sure that your monitors are ok? Are you sure that your ears are okay? I would advise you to stop mixing immediately, that's just not for you. If you have anything to do with mixing at all. With your bad plugin reviews, you've undermined your own credibility. I understand if you´re not able to understand what I'm saying but the comparison you make here makes no sense at all!
It's actually a buggy piece of crap. I bought the license for the G2 over a year ago (you buy a license for one year.. what? ). It crashes wavelab (hit or miss when you press play for the first time and no, it;s not a wavelab bug), sounds like crap with distortion, produces ISP's even though it says it doesn't and when bypassed and you make an ofline bounce it doesn't bypass but still processes audio! A total waste of money.. Ow.. BTW.. when I send them an email I didn't even get an answer back.. Even some freeware limiters behave and sound better and yes, I know what i'm talking about but Wytze knows that :) Thanks for pointing this out Wytze!
Hey man, change your ears and change yours methods. Your not doing yourself a favor. Maybe it's funny (but I'm not 12 years old) ? It surely lacks ethics. Too much of your videos are like this one. I unsubscribe.
Invisible limiter uses way too much CPU and latency sucks. Fab filter pro l2 is good but it is more CPU intensive than the original. Also uses a lot of latency. I don't use any of these. I stopped using limiters along time ago 🤷🏻♂️
I always love the sound of the Invisible Limiter on my EDM tracks. It works just perfectly on anything I make.
The way you tested this plugin is not really fair. You just pushed 10 db of gain into the limiter until the signal started breaking and then compared it to something else. I totally agree with your sir!
>no-one pushes a limiter that hard
you might want to take a listen to modern drum and bass
Yeah try an L1 at 10db of reduction, it sounds like a free distortion plugin but was used for years as a mastering limiter.
But that´s where you can really hear it working though. I always do that when comparing limiters just to understand what I should be listening for.

The only limiter I´ve tried that is anything close to "invisible" is the IK multimedia stealth limiter. Obviously, when pushed over the top no limiter will be "invisible" though
Yes. That one is amazing.
If it was invisible, you'd had to use macro knobs in your DAW to use it.
steven wilson has a son???
It's a good Distortion Plugin. G2 more than the original.
yes, that instruction manual / product descriptor was written by a nonm-native english speaker....a bad one, similar to many of the instruction manuals we get from China....
aom limiter is the best limiter available, simple as that.
I don't know I thought by comparison is was far more transparent than the fabfilter
AOM sounded worse to me in this example, too much annoying pumping.
Music shouldn't be that loud and squashed anyway.
Invisible Limiter, waves L series, and slate FG-X were great in "Loudness War" era.
I understand if you´re not able to understand what I'm saying but the comparison you make here makes no sense at all!
poor boy needs a hug
Invisible Limiter G2 along with the Klanghelm DC8C 3 Advanced Compressor right before that Limiter and voila -- uh oooooooooooooo it's magic!
FFFanks a lot! lol cracking me up! keep's up.
your girlfriend can't? what an easteregg 😂
The Pro L2 does multiband limiting when set on Modern I think
Starting to think the pro L2 ain’t up to it
Wrong way to compare and test.Get HOFA BLIND TEST, its free vst to balance two tracs before compare
Press thumbs down button two times.,?? LOL
I'm going for just one.
I just did it to your comment :P
Right.
who did the song? Don't say Sandstorm
Darude!

Try SPL Iron!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!
0:44 ..."my Girlfriend can't"... *grins* . Keep going on, my friend. Like to hear (and see) your opinions.
on FL 11, that i'm still using, the AOM works perfect. L2 gives a huge latency.. (working on apollo twin)
and btw..
it's all cracked!!!!! :)))
Google translate is barely visible there ahahah (...)
That said, if a mastering engineer cannot understand what's being said in the manual, then it's snake oil.

Horribly unfair comparison. Come on man, you know better!
Really?! :-( :-( :-(
Why do you always say its Darude - Sandstorm , and clearly its not what am I missing ????
he's memeing
Hmmm. This "test" is snake oil.
yEAH Right///Fk that thing~
Hey man, change your ears and change yours methods. Your not doing yourself a favor. Maybe it's funny (but I'm not 12 years old) ? It surely lacks ethics. Too much of your videos are like this one. I unsubscribe.
not cool ahahah o Presonus I like that one limiter
The channel strip stock limiter in studio one sounds pretty decent
Both plugins are horse shit.
.you look very confused all the time .. thinking you understand what you talk about funny :)
Invisible limiter uses way too much CPU and latency sucks. Fab filter pro l2 is good but it is more CPU intensive than the original. Also uses a lot of latency. I don't use any of these. I stopped using limiters along time ago 🤷🏻♂️
yeah, cuz those limiters are for mastering, not for live play.
