I seriously wonder why any DAWs still doesn't have auto gain-match function (in one click) in any plugin just like all Softube's plugin. Or am I missing anything? It would reduce your worktime drastically...

Hi! Thanks for your content once again. Have you checked mono compatibility? I used this plugin and I suspect stereo phase issues, but I haven't run proper tests.
@@EternalJourneys I mean AGC rather than just trim. I have LetMix Gainmatch set on AW Consolidated post-fx slot in Bitwig, then I have AGC when I need it, although iirc Polarity did an AGC in the Grid so that would work too for Consolidated.
You better check out the consolidated set of ALL the plugins. It's just one VST or CLAP plugin, it has in and out levels and explanations of everything in it.
Why wouldnt an independent developer make a better tape emulation than a big company? If this was from Native Instruments, the cost for the plugin would need to pay 3 designers that were drawing a cassette for the background image of the plugin.
A tape comparison video would be interesting. For me it would be interesting if any hardware emulations (for example Roger Mayer 456HD-500, Rupert Neve Designs Portico 542, Handsome Audio Zulu) would be included.
Nice one, thanks for the heads-up! Also: what music are we listening to throughout the video? That's some amazingly groovy stuff, I love it! I do have an analogue tape machine, but it's not a professional one by any means (Akai 4000DS Mk-II), and I should probably should have it looked at. I don't know much about tape machines or engineering, but anything I record on it comes out really noisy and broken-sounding. So far I've actually used that to my advantage in order to make electronic drums sound more interesting, and other than that, I've mostly just sampled stuff from the old tape that came with it (and in the wrong speed, too).
If you are doing another video like this, please try Chow Tape again. The reason imo is it is free, and if we can make a free plugin really usefull (even though its perhaps slightly more cumbersome), its really available to everyone. Last time, you used some settings I think is not optimal. Please try another alorithm, either NR8 or STN. They are a little more CPU taxing, but the plugin is really well programmed and most PCs can handle this. Then focus on saturation, drive and bias to shape the distortion to your liking. There is no gain compensation as usual, but still good. Also try higher oversampling. This have become a staple part of my mixing process and I think it is excellent,
The term is compansion. It was compressing different frequency ranges in different ways, and then decompressing them again on playback. I don't really understand how some of the Dolby decompression works, because it uses negative feedback loops, and how a negative feedback loop can undo compression is beyond me. But compansion is what's going on.

Hi, Wytse! To focus the next tape plugin comparison, what about compare isolated features? Something like just the bias of each one, just the input distortion etc. There are so many things to make each tape machine unique... Maybe find a good plataform to reach a good emulation of a hardware one can be a good focus. A huge hug, man! Love your channel!
I just heard the Totape 8 version….sounds decent
definitely want to see any tape machine comparisons from plug ins to analog!
Chris is a genius!
It would be cool to see a comparison of the tape plugins.
Including:
Airwindows - ToTape
UA - Ampex
UA - Studer
Kiive - Tape Face
Slate - Virtual tape Machine
He’ll yeah dog. The console system is probably the best plug-in ever made
Thanks for putting me on this plugin. Would love to see a tape plugin comparison video including satin, that’s the I’ve been using lately. ✌️
the saddest thing about Airwindows is that he is not more popular
A cassette tape plugin comparison video would be great!!
Yeah, that would be really cool. I love sketch cassette and use it all the time. I haven't tried many other cassette plugins though.
Hi! Thanks for your content once again. Have you checked mono compatibility? I used this plugin and I suspect stereo phase issues, but I haven't run proper tests.
Honestly it sound fire, already put it on every tracks
I am thinking of those tape recorder engineers back in the days that tried to achieve the exact opposite of these plugins.
There's so many gems in the Airwindows arsenal. You do need a gain match wrapper though to really hear what's going on without the gain change.
Airwindows Consolidated as input/output gain controls
@@EternalJourneys I mean AGC rather than just trim. I have LetMix Gainmatch set on AW Consolidated post-fx slot in Bitwig, then I have AGC when I need it, although iirc Polarity did an AGC in the Grid so that would work too for Consolidated.
You better check out the consolidated set of ALL the plugins. It's just one VST or CLAP plugin, it has in and out levels and explanations of everything in it.
Thank you for this video! His plugins are really great!!!
+1 for updated tape plugin shootout extravaganza video.
Yes please: do a comparison between all the Tape sim VSTs!!!
So far I've actually used that to my advantage in order to make electronic drums sound more interesting, and other than that, I've mostly just sampled stuff from the old tape that came with it (and in the wrong speed, too).
i always said uhe satin is the best but this really competes with the preset i made, for free which is crazy
This have become a staple part of my mixing process and I think it is excellent,
You should try Chris' consoles. They give something especial to the mix.
The term is compansion. It was compressing different frequency ranges in different ways, and then decompressing them again on playback. I don't really understand how some of the Dolby decompression works, because it uses negative feedback loops, and how a negative feedback loop can undo compression is beyond me. But compansion is what's going on.
