Great movie choice! But maybe change the title so it doesn't say "first time watching" since you already saw it when you were five? Glad you enjoyed it.
Arnold is so goddamn good in this movie. I know most people don't really think of him as a "true" actor, but the way he moves and his physicality in The Terminator really does give you the feeling that he isn't human.
It was kinda thought that a robot role was made for him, that's all he could do, but it's actually rather impressive that he pulled it off when you see how charismatic he always was in real life.
The best fact about this movie is that it was more or less filmed "in the wild" with no licenses to film at certain locations. They didn't even have a budget for light, so Cameron was driving around the city to find street lights that were perfect for certain shots. Also, Tech Noir the night club was some rented place that was turned into a set to film. Midway through the filming a queue formed in front of it and people tried to get in...
Absolutely love the first Terminator. The second movie has bigger budget and more action, but I like the more grounded, down to earth, horror and tech-noir style of the first movie. And as someone who wants to make movies, I feel a stronger connection to this one. It's almost something that a competent crew of amature filmmakers could make (I would never even dream of ever touching a project as big as T2 tho). They made the first one basically in guerrilla style, with little to no permits, and always being ready to run before the cops shut down the filming.
I thought one of the greatest parts of this movie is Kyle wondering whar Sara was thinking about in that photo and we learn that she was thinking about him.
@@DBZ-Mousa The only aspect the sequel is better in, is the special effects. And that's to be expected given it came out 7 years later. None of the sequels come close to the original.
Some scenes today may look dated, but it's still one hell of a movie. The concept beyond this movie is not new. It's called the grandfather paradox. It says that it is impossible to successfully alter events in the past through time travel.
There is a show in this universe "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" that sadly got cancelled after two seasons but it's great. If you watch the second movie and fall in love with it I'd recommend watching that too.
Arnold had already been in a few other movies before this: Hercules goes to New York (1970), The Villain (1979), Conan the Barbarian (1982), and Conan the Destroyer (1984), but this was the one that really made the rest of his acting career, followed up with Commando, Predator, Terminator 2, and so on... and, in 1984 this was considered the most violent movie ever made, due to the police station shootout scenes.
The Terminator is absolutely a horror movie. Balance of power between the protagonists and antagonist alone demonstrates it. It isn't a movie about some plucky underdog versus a larger force; it's about an unstoppable killing machine versus a waitress. For most of the movie, the one character who has experience doesn't even believe the era's technology can even stop the terminator. Every installment after this is solidly action.
The highly anticipated sequel was released seven years later from the original with bigger budget and modern CGI, thanks to the success of the first Terminator. The movie was ahead of its time and was much successful as the first. Enjoy the series!
This is definitely horror. It has many similarities to the slasher genre. There's even concept art of a damaged terminator crawling with a kitchen knife in hand. This horror element is what I personally think is the thing missing in later instalments
One of the best, if not the best horror sci-fi dystopia ever made. I love T2, I saw it as a kid in '91 and it deserves all the praise but I'm one of those who consider T1 "THE" Terminator movie. Comparing the two films it can be seen that in the case of the '84 film, the goal was less to be popular. They wanted to make the most of Cameron's vision with a small budget. The film has a dark, gloomy, "grainy" 80's feel, to which we add Brad Fiedel's fantastic analog music themes. All of these make it unique and unrepeatable.
Before Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast as the titular character, OJ Simpson was considered to play the Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind saying, "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦 Tom Selleck, Lance Henriksen, Sylvester Stallone, and Mel Gibson were considered for the part as well. Bruce Springsteen, Michael O'Keefe, Tommy Lee Jones, Christopher Reeve, Scott Glenn, Sting, Treat Williams, and Matt Dillon were considered for Kyle Reese. Lea Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Harper, Melissa Sue Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, and Lisa Langolis were considered for Sarah Connor.
Sean Connery was also considered for the Terminator. His Agent was in touch with Cameron's people and enthusiastically called Connery back about the meeting, "Can you do tenish?" "Tennish?" Sean replied, "...but I haven't got a raquet!"
Imagine it's the year 1984 and you are 7 years old and you just watched The Terminator for the first time. That was my experience and it left a very profound impression on me and I aged 10 years by the time the movie was over. I do hope you follow up with the sequel as it is arguably better.
Although I like this one better the second one is really good and one of the biggest blockbusters of the 90s. I do recommend you see it. I also recommend the TV series. The Sarah Conner Chronicles, the only real problem with that one is it only lasted 2 seasons. It is one of those shows that was cancelled way too soon but still worth watching.
It's among the best reactions I've seen for this film, talking about those who pretend to be interested or on the contrary playing smarter, you were more natural, bravo 😁
Watching you react reminds me of the time I was introducing my teen daughter to a great VHS or DVD movie every week. I liked watching her reaction when I knew there was a strong scene happening.
As a kid on weekends I would sometimes watch T1 and T2 on VHS right after I ate breakfast. Love those movies! Also, The Terminator could absolutely be viewed from the perspective of a war movie, so that's a really cool take :)
I'm thinking that watching movies like The Terminator or Aliens or Lethal Weapon now for the first time is quite a different experience than having seen them when they were first released in the '80's. Certain aspects that were so fresh then have since become soon ingrained in the culture that they are now almost expected ie tropes.

The Terminator is arguably the greatest low-budget movie ever made. Arguably the greatest B-movie. And the sequel is arguably the greatest action movie ever.
So funny, at that future scene where the Terminator invades their little base we see all this devastation.. and all you think about is the cute possible love story. 🤣
Thanks for the fun and cool reaction! I liked it a lot! As for why Sarah wasn't immediately feeling safe with Kyle: I think we need to factor in that Sarah is established as quite the normal person, working as a waitress and dating etc. She is already on edge from knowing about the killings of her name-kin. Without knowing about cyborgs, future wars or anything, it's reasonable to say that all the shooting and killing at Tech Noir Sarah was battling shock. She doesn't know Kyle and even if he would have a chance to harm her earlier, she does not know what he wants with her. However, WE do, as the audience. So I think shock just led her to the "fight or flight or freeze", in which case she opted for the two latter ones. :)
Yes! Thank you! Sarah didn't see Kyle shoot the Terminator. She was looking at the Terminator when it happened. It was confusing and chaotic. I think most of us would have reacted like Sarah if that happened to us. Once she's in the car with Kyle, there's a shot of her looking away, clearly in shock, like she has no idea what to do or what's going on.
The end is the beginning and the beginning is the end. The war is lost, so the machines come back to the beginning. John's beginning is from a soldier of the end... fun concept to play with.
Ahnold had some gigs before this film. He was in the sorta-documentary Pumping Iron, played Conan the Barbarian, and even showed up as Lucille Ball's massage therapist in an episode of The Lucy Show. But Terminator was his giant breakout role.

You have to watch part 2 and part 3 and skip the rest until the last one called Dark Fate. People say there are no strong women in movies back then. They weren’t watching the Terminator movies apparently.
This movie was my first cyborg, action, syfy movie and I gotta say that Arnold Schwarzenegger is awesomely badass, scary, along with being very a little bit intimidating because him mimicking the mom voice of the real Sarah Conner's mother did give me chills because this cyborg ain't playing around, Great reaction overall on this very fun unique classic 1980s syfy, action, pack film Centane.
The Terminator's eyebrows burned 🔥 off from the explosion prior to his punching 👊 through the windshield to grab Sarah, I think, was another great way to convey an intimidating look for the Terminator. Without eyebrows, the Terminator looked not quite human. More menacing. You could believe he's unstoppable with a Frankenstein monster type appearance! -OG
Style wise I prefer T1. T2 has bit of that "don't forget to buy the action figure on your way out" feeling. It's great but I just prefer T1, even with the more dated effects. T1 introduced also the core writing ideas about AI takeover, T2 is just recycling it. Also I'm slightly annoyed by the squeky voice of young Edward Furlong. He did okay, but he is definitely the weakest part of T2
T2 in no way way whatsoever supasses this film as a Terminator film. Too many unexplained errors & the danger was not nearly as present as this. Was a prime example of sacrificing storytelling for moneymaking.
I was happy to get my hands on some Phased Plasma Rifles in the game: Terminator Resistance - which takes place in the future during John Connors watch.
0:57 ...."This is where he's known from".... Well, he wasn't exactly an unknown, but this is the movie that turned him into an international star..... Personally, I prefer him as Conan, the Barbarian, but that's just me.....
According to Arnold himself, he was so into the script and the concept of the Terminator (having auditioned for the Kyle Reese part) and kept telling the director what he thought the Terminator should walk, talk, move and so on forever, that at some point the director said "why don't you just play the Terminator then".
Arnie said the Terminator should say "I will be back" but Cameron used the take he wanted with Arnie saying "I'll be back" instead. The rest is history 😁
@@pesty4 actually what happened was that the original line was "i'll be back" but Schwarzenegger had trouble pronouncing it so he wanted to say "I will be back" but Cameron refused to let him say it like that.
This movie is a horror/sci-fi. The sequels are sci fi action however. Great reaction! You're a morning person huh? Definitely watch T2! You'll love it!
That was fun, i enjoy seeing people speculate for their first time seeing this. (Been watching it all my life, so no surprises anymore.) I did a comedy series over on my channel called Reversed Reviews (where i watch movies backward while narrating the new plot) first 2 episodes were on Terminator 1 and 2. You might enjoy it playing out differently.
My favorite part is that Kyle said he always wondered what she was thinking in the moment that the picture was taken, and in the end we found out that she was thinking about him. / :' ] Looking forward to the T2 reaction ! If you haven't already, definitely recommend watching the theatrical version. The other versions force a really bad alternate ending.
The thing with this movie was there was a scene that was cut that they put in the special edition that showed as Sarah was getting put into the ambulance it goes and shows that she was outside cyberdyne systems. To me that is the closed loop. A cyberdyne robot ends up at cyberdyne at the end
" I'll be back. " 😎 Cam wait till you see Terminator 2. I called it the best Terminator sequel ever. No other Terminator movies that came after could compete.
When they filmed this they'd spray a thin layer of wax on Arnold to give his skin an artificial look, he definitely gives me the impression something is off about him in this movie
As a man of a generation that watched this movie when it first came out, and understood it perfectly. I'd be interested to know as I've watched a lot of reactors of different ages react to it. Why people of a younger generation. Say 18/25 year old's, watch the Terminator character commit acts of extreme violence and already murder atleast 5 people by the time it gets to the tech noir club scene. Whereas all Reese has done is steal a hobo's pants and a pair of sneekers. Why do younger people of today all think Reese is the bad guy? Any psychologists out there that can tell me what's going on in their heads?
In the movie Time Rider, the protagonist goes back into the past and impregnates his great grandmother. He dies before he is born and he is his own great grandfather, his grandfather's father, and his father's grand father, his future offspring's great great grandfather.
You weren’t really wrong when you said that you thought The Terminator was a horror movie. It follows many of the tropes, motifs and beats of the slasher film sub genre of horror
Star Trek is a tough one without watching the original series or some of it anyway. But yes more reactors should watch the Star Trek movies both the older ones and the newer ones.
@@DylansPen If there was a good, universally accepted compilation of "Essential Star Trek" for the original T.V. series and for TNG, that would make it easier...
Hi Centane, it's great you've seen this iconic sci fi movie and I loved your reaction to it. Please react to it's awesome sequel: Terminator 2 as soon as you can.
If she really thought about it. She would know she tells John about Kyle. John gave Kyle a picture of Sarah. Guessing he didn't do that for everyone. Sort of played matchmaker for his parents
Not bad for a low-budget 80s b-movie, isn't it? 😂 If you like this, you'll love T2! Sarah is going to full bad ass mode, you'll learn more about the background story and the stunts and SFX are top until today! About this movie: yes, it was THE breakthrough for Arnold as an action actor. Before, he was in "Pumping Iron", a kind of bodybuilder documentary, "Hercules in New York", a b-movie fantasy film and his first big role in "Conan the barbarian". Before his acting career, he won every bodybuilding contest, some of them multiple times including "Mr. Olympia" and "Mr.Universe". For "The Terminator" he had to lose weight because he was TOO stacked 😉 Fun fact: Lance Henrikson was first casted as the terminator because they are an "infiltration unit" and he looks like a normal guy, but then he got the role of one of the police officers in the station with Sarah. But he, Michael Biehn (Reese) and Bill Paxton (blue-haired punk) worked with James Cameron again later in "Aliens". BTW, Bill Paxton is the only human got killed by a Terminator, a Xenomorph and a Predator 😉
Fun fat. Kyle tells Sarah about the picture, saying, "I always wondered what you were thinking." When the photo is taken, she's thinking of Kyle. Fitting, I think, and a little detail not many people notice. It deserves the accolades everyone gives it, and it deserves to have the more well-known tidbits mentioned, but that's easily my favorite small detail.
The first Terminator movie is a horror/action movie. You not knowing anything about this movie was perfect both for reaction and going into it. Sarah had an arch she was confused and scared but at the last battle she went full leader mode and showed us the qualities her son will inherit. Something living beings can but machines cant.
I know the time paradox story can get kind of confusing. Like a vicious circle of a time loop. Kyle dies in the past, only to be born again in the future. Kyle's picture of Sarah burns in the fire 🔥 only to be taken again at the end of the film. This whole concept is like recycling ♻️ the same things over and over again but fresh. I find it ironic that Kyle says he always wondered 🤔 what Sarah was thinking about in the picture. If he only knew. Sarah was thinking of him as she made her recordings. -OG
Others have commented but I'll add, T2 is probably THE greatest movie sequel ever made, and for me it perfectly finishes the series. Also the last one directed by James Cameron. The rest are just money cows bred by Hollywood IMO.
Now you have to watch the rest of the movies and the TV Series. Only bad part is that after the first couple movies is they start changing up actors a couple times but they're still really good

22:54 Remember when Kyle said he'd always wondered what she was thinking at that moment? She was thinking of him.
The Terminator - speaks with a german accent.
The Terminator imitating other voices - no german accent. 😉
-OG
The fire also trimmed his hair.
@@bigdream_dreambig lol. -OG
can't wait for your T2 reaction. It's one of the very few movie sequels that lives up to the original and as most would aggree surpasses it.
I loved your stank face when Reese was explaining about the A/I betrayal :)
I was happy to get my hands on some Phased Plasma Rifles in the game: Terminator Resistance - which takes place in the future during John Connors watch.
Please watch part 2. You'll love it
I believe your initial assessment is correct. The Terminator is a sci fi/horror movie. Terminator 2, on the other hand, is a sci fi/action movie.
So insightful and delightful x
The rest is history 😁
and boy did he come back, he came back like a mf
@@pesty4 actually what happened was that the original line was "i'll be back" but Schwarzenegger had trouble pronouncing it so he wanted to say "I will be back" but Cameron refused to let him say it like that.
This movie is a horror/sci-fi. The sequels are sci fi action however. Great reaction! You're a morning person huh? Definitely watch T2! You'll love it!
So great to see your first reactions to this classic.
That this movie is now almost 40 years old. unbelievable...
Glad you enjoyed it. T2 will blow your mind away!!
T2 is entertaining, but it's nowhere near as good as this one.
That was fun, i enjoy seeing people speculate for their first time seeing this. (Been watching it all my life, so no surprises anymore.)
I did a comedy series over on my channel called Reversed Reviews (where i watch movies backward while narrating the new plot) first 2 episodes were on Terminator 1 and 2. You might enjoy it playing out differently.
My favorite part is that Kyle said he always wondered what she was thinking in the moment that the picture was taken, and in the end we found out that she was thinking about him.

Looking forward to the T2 reaction !
If you think about it, this film hits all the beats of a horror/slasher film
" I'll be back. " 😎
Cam wait till you see Terminator 2. I called it the best Terminator sequel ever. No other Terminator movies that came after could compete.
I love how half of the movie is blurred
Some of the actors in this turn up in the Alien franchise.
3:28 I'm going to start using that line 🤣🤣🤣
If you watch part 2 I recommend you watch the theatrical edition.
When they filmed this they'd spray a thin layer of wax on Arnold to give his skin an artificial look, he definitely gives me the impression something is off about him in this movie
Awesome reaction loved it you were great 🌹😎ill see you soon for part two 😎👍
Watch part 2, the most crazy and mind blowing action movie of his time. 😁✌️
*Terminator 2 Judgment Day* is one of the best sequels of all time.
Kyle is the only father who is younger than his son and at 22:26 like Kyle said she would, she is in hiding before the war
It’s a full platter - the story contains many genres.
I paid $8.50 to see Cheap Trick in concert in 1980. I thought it was a fortune.
Any chance for STAR TREK reactions on Your channel? 🖖
Kyle is 100% human. Arnold is a cyborg. That's why when Kyle fell out of the lightening, he was in pain whereas Arnold felt nothing.
"With a chancla..." I laughed so hard 🤣
Hi Centane, it's great you've seen this iconic sci fi movie and I loved your reaction to it. Please react to it's awesome sequel: Terminator 2 as soon as you can.
If she really thought about it. She would know she tells John about Kyle. John gave Kyle a picture of Sarah. Guessing he didn't do that for everyone. Sort of played matchmaker for his parents
It is a action film but the Terminator is intended to be scary in its relentlessness and durability.
Not bad for a low-budget 80s b-movie, isn't it? 😂
If you like this, you'll love T2!
For "The Terminator" he had to lose weight because he was TOO stacked 😉
Fun fact: Lance Henrikson was first casted as the terminator because they are an "infiltration unit" and he looks like a normal guy, but then he got the role of one of the police officers in the station with Sarah.
I think everyone noticed that. Maybe not everyone. people can be pretty dumb.
Wow you havn't seen Terminator Kamilla? It's a classic and the 2nd one is just as good, if not better!
The 2nd is definitely the better one.
The first Terminator movie is a horror/action movie.
You not knowing anything about this movie was perfect both for reaction and going into it.
Sarah had an arch she was confused and scared but at the last battle she went full leader mode and showed us the qualities her son will inherit. Something living beings can but machines cant.
Yet.
-OG
You are so pretty. "I guess he stole his heart." With gesture. LMAO
