Great serving tutorial, however need lot's of practise to execute to anywhere near Craig's level for same. He is probably one of the best servers in our game. Fantastic to learn from him.
He is standing in very much the same spot. From my experience (a low rated player who can enjoys putting fear in the hearts of higher rated players), changing the position right before a serve and then serving from various lengths away from the table and angles messes with club players who have been trained to expect the standard, close to the table serves, from what I have experienced. This is your best video that I have seen. Thanks so much. This was great as all 4 serves were from a similar starting position which makes them much more effective.
I'm so proud of myself, that I "re-invented" 3 of these 4 serves myself. Especially "fast down the line". I can hit the edge with this one not looking there :). After watching this video I finally know the names and actual technique.
I've started beating all my opponents after following your videos Tom!! You're very helpful 😃 Keep up the amazing content! And your way of explaining is just perfect :) thank you!
Craig, I have finally mastered the kicker serve. I have something that you might want to try. You approach the serve from under the ball when you flick your wrist for topspin. I found that if you start your racket high and under you armpit and descend down to the ball to flick your wrist up just as it passes the ball at table level, it makes it look even more like backspin and makes it almost impossible to read. Let me know if you give it a try and thanks for this serve! I am developing the same serve from the backhand side as well . You can create it by doing the same thing you do with the forehand but face the table straight on when you move your paddle from right to left and down into the ball as you flick the wrist up. Have you tried this way yet?
Richard J Hi Richard, A good observation and you’re right that you may well be able to get more kick / topspin. The issue with doing it that way, is that you lose the possibility of creating backspin. So by starting below the ball, you can only go upwards and then you give your opponent a real opportunity to take advantage of the serve. So that’s why I try to stay behind the ball, so that I can create some doubt between backspin and topspin. What you’ve done is great though, so much of serving is experimenting with what might work and what things could work for you and your game. Keep experimenting and good luck with your serves. 👍
Many thanks, will definitely work on these. The only one I already use is the fast down the line - I always make sure I glance at the other side of the table just before serving, to make my opponent think that's where it will be going! it usually fools them
Ty so much! My super wide and fast long serves are really working well for me; service now probably the strength in my game. Still can’t do that ghost serve tho. 😬 Mr. Bryant makes it look so easy!

Am I the only one watching this video at 3 40 am only because before going to bed, a desire to watch some crazy ping pong serves suddenly came to my mind ? That is nuts
Hi Tom. Here is a MISTAKE in CRAIG'S TEACHING. For the SUPER-WIDE SIDESPIN SERVE, Craig shows the audience a roughly 22.5° tilt of the bat (at 6:26) and implies that the bat is actually at 22.5° at ball contact.. He says something like, "The bat is quite flat,.. and there is s 'small tilt'…" But at the "first half" of the slow motion view at 6:55, the bat is clearly at a 45° angle when the bat contacts the ball and NOT at 22.5°. You can demonstrate this for yourself by simply using your cell phone camera and set your cell phone camera to SLOW MOTION and then video the SLOW MOTION section of Craig's serve between 6:53 through 6:57 and pausing at the first part of 6:55, where you can see for yourself that the angle of Craig's bat at ball contact is actually at 45° and not at 22.5°. But otherwise, Craig's video instruction is fantastic! (By the way, the actually timing-the minutes and seconds of the above video recording-varies with each viewing, so what I saw at 6:57, etc on my viewing may be different in your viewing.)
When you serve a kicker to the left side of my table,I'm gonna give you my dash forward loops of topspin returning to the right side of your table so that it won't allow you enough reaction time to hit back.Besides, your served kicker showing it's a right topspin ball very suitable for a lefty player like me to create a dash forward loops or my forehand sttacks, too.
