    • @briandrake9
      @briandrake9 5 лет назад +15

      He is standing in very much the same spot. From my experience (a low rated player who can enjoys putting fear in the hearts of higher rated players), changing the position right before a serve and then serving from various lengths away from the table and angles messes with club players who have been trained to expect the standard, close to the table serves, from what I have experienced. The pro trainer makes these serves look easy but it takes years and years of serving practice to get where he is. Great tips, though. The slow motion is helpful because he gets so much action with quick movements that are hard to see in real time. Thank you for video, Tom! @@TomLodziak

      Sooooooooo, I guess I need to revamp the way I hold the paddle and learn the open palm legal.table tennis serve to be able to absorb this. Admittedly, it does seem the way to go and could change up.my entire ping pong philosophy mannerisms.

  • @richardj6593
    @richardj6593 5 лет назад +10

    Craig, I have finally mastered the kicker serve. I have something that you might want to try. You approach the serve from under the ball when you flick your wrist for topspin. I found that if you start your racket high and under you armpit and descend down to the ball to flick your wrist up just as it passes the ball at table level, it makes it look even more like backspin and makes it almost impossible to read. Let me know if you give it a try and thanks for this serve! I am developing the same serve from the backhand side as well . You can create it by doing the same thing you do with the forehand but face the table straight on when you move your paddle from right to left and down into the ball as you flick the wrist up. Have you tried this way yet?

    • @craigyb22
      @craigyb22 5 лет назад +1

      Richard J
      Hi Richard,
      A good observation and you’re right that you may well be able to get more kick / topspin. The issue with doing it that way, is that you lose the possibility of creating backspin. So by starting below the ball, you can only go upwards and then you give your opponent a real opportunity to take advantage of the serve. So that’s why I try to stay behind the ball, so that I can create some doubt between backspin and topspin.
      What you’ve done is great though, so much of serving is experimenting with what might work and what things could work for you and your game. Keep experimenting and good luck with your serves. 👍

      @90blackboy90 5 лет назад

      It's actually not that hard. Most important thing is you need to practice reading serves and don't make the same mistake another time;) so may you miss the kicker, but then you know it's topspin so you could just counter, loop or block that serve the next time.
      Fast down the line, just position yourself more to the middle and be fast.
      Wide sidespin serve, I'd return it with my forehand. It's much easier than with the backhand even it's on your backhand side.
      Ghost serve, seems to be a bit tricky, don't wait for the ball coming towards you, try to hit the ball much earlier than you are used to.

    Super info. Love to see instruction on no spin serves at some point, great though. Craig's rubber sounds fairly hard. Are these serves best executed with a harder rubber rather than softer? Thank you once again.

      Zazen forever
      Good ears, it’s Rhyzm P 50 degrees. However, entirely possible to execute this different rubber and blade combinations.

      It needs to be a very sticky paddle to be able to put that much spin. Not as much hard vs soft but how sticky the surface is. A regular/ average paddle won't be able to put that much spin

    "Fast down the line", "Super wide sidespin", and "Ghost serve" had me shook and I ain't even on the table. Poor red shirt, cant even catch a break on the table. Didn't even show up for the final one, as if it gave double meaning. I feel his pain, but those serves are so cool!

    Haha thank you so much. The first one is really a magic. Opponents look the racket down and they all think that the ball absolutely tends to go down

    You generate so much spin on the ball, but the bat hardly seems to move at all. I guess it's a matter of very precise timing.

    Hi Tom. Here is a MISTAKE in CRAIG'S TEACHING. For the SUPER-WIDE SIDESPIN SERVE, Craig shows the audience a roughly 22.5° tilt of the bat (at 6:26) and implies that the bat is actually at 22.5° at ball contact.. He says something like, "The bat is quite flat,.. and there is s 'small tilt'…" But at the "first half" of the slow motion view at 6:55, the bat is clearly at a 45° angle when the bat contacts the ball and NOT at 22.5°. You can demonstrate this for yourself by simply using your cell phone camera and set your cell phone camera to SLOW MOTION and then video the SLOW MOTION section of Craig's serve between 6:53 through 6:57 and pausing at the first part of 6:55, where you can see for yourself that the angle of Craig's bat at ball contact is actually at 45° and not at 22.5°. But otherwise, Craig's video instruction is fantastic! (By the way, the actually timing-the minutes and seconds of the above video recording-varies with each viewing, so what I saw at 6:57, etc on my viewing may be different in your viewing.)

    When you serve a kicker to the left side of my table,I'm gonna give you my dash forward loops of topspin returning to the right side of your table so that it won't allow you enough reaction time to hit back.Besides,your served kicker showing it's a right topspin ball very suitable for a lefty player like me to create a dash forward loops or my forehand sttacks,too.
