Thx for explaining the issue in the beginning, I had a model with bunch of separated parts and couldn't understand what was causing the problem. I solved the issue in a bit different way though. In edit mode separated everything "By Loose Parts", then selected all separated meshes in object mode and bound it to armature, and then combined all the meshes back into one with Ctrl+J.

In 2.9.1 my window looks slightly different and I couldn't find the vertex groups button after the vertex data checkbox, finally found it and works great, legend!
I have another solution to this, select the model, go to edit mode, select all vertices and press M and merge by distance without deforming the mesh, and done. And after this try to parent it to bone and it will work 100% without any modifier problem. And if you have eyes and mouth, just make other bones for it or just move it aside and then only parent the mesh without mouth and eyes or hair.

So what i discovered was that in some cases , Blender cant apply the automati weigth if you use [ SubDivision ] So what i did was simple . I removed the subdivision tryed again the atutomatic Weigth , and this time worked . And ofcourse you can add subdivision again after the automatic weight bone applyed.
O my gosh! Man u just save my live!!!! A have very godd and complex rig, and have a complex meshes and it was always the problem for me to rig them. And u give me such good solution!!!! U are the best!!!
Thanks for disambiguating this. Each time I forget whether it is due to loose parts, or to geometry being split in chunks with lots of manifold edges. Loose parts it is in my case !

Also if anyone is having an issue where the denser mesh weight paint is looking a little glitchy/warpy, when moving the rig. I used the Smooth Corrective modifier and that helped fix it.
Very Creative!! This way I don't have to worry about any resulting deformations to original mesh, and I can still add more bones that update the rig for the original object as well.
Oh Wow. This actually works. I have tried every other solution on the internet and I thought..."here we go again", but it actually does work. The only issue I have, is that when I move a bone, although the mesh moves perfectly with it, there is quite a lot of deformation around the mesh, where the mesh is stretching to accommodate the movement. I can understand why this is happening, but when I watch something like Toy Story, none of the characters have mesh deformation, when they move.
Ty so much, it was getting error even with decimate modifier, I tryed another video that used merge by distance to parent with automatic weights to the lowpoly, and worked, and then got back to your video to data transfer modifier and worked!!!
