Every time I listen to Rosaria, I just wanna weep at how gracious our Lord is to reach down and touch someone’s life in such a dramatic way.
True, and then I look in the mirror. While I have not struggled with the sin of homosexuality, and I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior at a young age, i too was a reprobate enemy of God headed to a Christless eternity. He reached down and convicted me and brought me to Him.
Yeah, I was just as reprobate. Permiscuous, and even dabbled w/ bisexual sin, well before it became the social trend. Back then, it was shameful and hidden. So I have always had great empathy for homosexuals. Not the worst sin, but to compassionately describe it to someone trapped in it: this is not the best life that God wants any of his children.
Any story of conversion is a wonderful proof of God's amazing grace because no one wants to change their ways. To look at yourself and under God's conviction of sin say: I am a trainwreck. I need a new beginning. I need Jesus. That kind of turnaround is only possible with God.
What is something is how He touches them after they have done the devil work. Our God is a awesome God for sure.....

Real /uncompromising Christians are in the world but not of the world in substance. So no, in principal, the Real/uncompromising Christians did not create this world culture.
I agree with speaking in love and recognizing any sin habits in our own selves.
But I sense there is still a tip toeing around the truth or trying to define/measure how that is supposed to look like categorically.. eg trying pin down what sin is without acknowledging anybody as sinners.
The modern church is filled with sinners who think they are God now with never a need for any humbling repentances at all. That isnt good.
We dont "love" them by putting them in an untouchable class of Non Sinners unlike us or that we must say we are Worse than them etc.

The world that Trump helped created has been wonderful for Christian's every where. This Lesbian has changed her ways to be like God again and she is successful now for the first time in her live. It beautiful story she has to tell. And those pro noun's are DANGEROUS!!!!!!!

My grandma used to say that “one look is appreciation but the second look is the sin of lust.” I think Rosaria might be touching on this a bit.
Agreed noticing Beauty and God's creation is not a sin, but taking a second look to use that beauty for ungodly means even if not carried out physically, is a sin.
To me, this was a hard but necessary conversation to have. Thank you Sean and Rosaria for sharing these truths about gender, sexuality and the like. I was gay, but have seen my sin through God's eyes and have repented. I still have friends in the LBTQ plus community that I am concerned about. I'm asking God to give me wisdom as to how to talk to them in a loving and truthful way. Thank you both again.

In the livestream Mrs Butterfield said, “the sin is not you.” Man that’s powerful.
One of the hardest ideas that people, in the gay community, have to wrestle with is this sense of identity within their same sexual desire.
Probably one of the biggest issues when it comes to homosexuality and Christianity too. As a Christian, my identity is found in Christ first and foremost.
I think this is why it’s so hard to speak to and be friends with people with the LGBTQIA community.. they have made themselves what they do.

Without the bible, you can still look at nature and the lack of ability to procreate as an absolute without exception, which would indicate the destruction of the species without others following the natural order. It is not hard to argue against whatsoever, this without mentioning the extra sexual diseases that follow anal sex more often than not having worse symptoms and severities.

We, as Christians, are supposed to be a light in the darkness, a city on a hill in order to be beacons for the Lord! We have severely neglected our duties and society as a whole has suffered. We have splintered into two primary camps in which both miss the mark: we either speak the Truth but forget to do it in love OR we show love (often an unbiblical variety) but don’t speak Truth. She is spot on with what she said!
I hope you all have a part 2, you both got deeper into this than any other interview I've seen about this book. We need a part 2.

I absolutely love Roasaria Butterfield’s work! I hope that it gains traction big time in the Christian community and church, a church which creates loneliness and doesn’t seem to know how to be a community that spurs one another on to love and good deeds like we read in the book of Hebrews.

Excellent stuff from Rosaria, speaking truth without apology. The broader evangelical church needs to stop affirming homosexuals in their sin and adopting man-made, unbiblical categories and labels.
I am so impressed with Rosaria. I never expected to hear someone with her background saying what she does. It's extremely refreshing to simply hear the truth for a change no matter how much it may enrage the squeaky wheels among us.
I really love Rosaria. Her theology is more solid and her articulation of it far better than 90% of theologians and clergy out there. Frankly, if women were allowed to be pastors, she’d be a top tier one on par with some of the best world has ever seen. I literally have never heard a woman as sound theologically or able to articulate the finer points as well as she can. The Lord be praised for her conversion and having created her with such tremendous intelligence. She really needs to start doing podcasts if she isn’t already.
Listening to her also saddens me as much as it amazes me as it makes me mindful of how poor many Christian theologians and clergy are by comparison. Without a doubt she could have most men back on their heals in a theological debate. I have never heard a woman speak as she does on theological matters. I’m completely blown away.
I’m a male and in preparation to become clergy in my church. She is like a female version of John MacArther or perhaps Spurgeon. She reminds me of Deborah who had to step up and lead because the men were far too weak to. I am by no means a feminist, I’m just stunned to hear a woman as sound theologically and able to communicate as well as she has here.
Are you kidding ? She's an astute , erudite , or versatile evangelist or theologian ? Go and check every one of her multiple video addresses and interviews on youtube . She is pathologically fixated on the moral impropriety and iniquity of the LBGTQ+ culture and feminist ideology . I've never yet heard her expound on any other aspect of Christian values , morality , ethics , or theology . She rants on about this to the exclusion of any other relevant or more crucial issues of faith . And often with astonishing ignorance . An example ; she has said with effusive triumphalism in several of her video dissertations that transgendered individuals will have their preordained sexual identity restored in the afterlife . What !! . The Gospel explicitly advises that gender is voided in God's spiritual kingdom ; 1 Corinthians 15 : 35-49 . That counsel decisively invalidates Rosaria's . Sheeeez !

Very interesting point Rosaria makes at 49.50. I was very arrested by and convicted of Ps 66:18 (19) some time ago.
"If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; (but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.)
It was only when I truly let go of my iron grip on my sin and surrendered it all to God did God help me overcome.

I first heard Rosario on Becket Cook’s youtube channel, and there were a few times I had to stop, re-listen, and take notes. First, a sincere well wish and prayer for Sean's good health since we know he's had some struggles in that area recently.
Great to hear from someone who has read the bible seven times. I suspect most who claim to be Christian haven't read it front to back even once. Also wonderful to hear someone proclaim the many sins they've repented of. Again, many so-called Christians barely know what sin is let alone get so busy repenting of it. Sin is the transgression of the law, says 1 John 3:4.
It is important to stress here breaking "God's law" is sin, as opposed to breaking the commandments and traditions of religions like Pharisaism, Judaism, Catholicism or her protesting daughters. Jesus Christ took the religionists and philosophers of his day to task for following commandments of men and the tradition of the elders instead of the commandments of God.
13:35 Rosaria correctly says its a sin to violate the ninth commandment. Of course its a sin to violate any of the ten commandments. I wonder why the hackneyed "vast majority" of professing Christians not only violate, but go to great lengths to justify the violation, of the fourth commandment?
There's no debate about adultery, having other gods or bowing to, or serving, idols or murdering, stealing, lying, etc. and who they apply to today. But when it comes to the fourth of the ten commandments, today's religionists say it only applies to a small subset of Israel, as if they - and they alone - are the totality of God's people today.
Please don't get me wrong, neither commandment keeping or any other "law keeping" will earn salvation. It is only by the grace of God through his son Jesus Christ that anyone is saved from eternal death. But, Christ alone at this stage of God's redemptive plan is the only man to have overcome death and been resurrected to eternal life in heaven.
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
Reception of the Holy Spirit is a begettal and an "earnest" or down payment and not the final birth or payment. Jesus is the first - and so far only - one to be "born again" from the dead and that will remain so until the first resurrection.
From the time God pronounced that Adam and Eve would die, die - surely die - that is precisely what has happened to every person. They are all dead, not alive in some other form or place, and, if not for Christ would remain so forever.
It is the promise of eternal life attained through the first resurrection, at Christ's return, that all those in Hebrews 11 desired - a heavenly country.
Hebrews 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly (one): wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Hebrews also explains why no man except Christ, including Enoch, has ascended to heaven - yet.
Hebrews 11:39-40 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
It is God's purpose that all, from Adam to those in Christ at his second coming, will be "made perfect" at the same time. Enoch nor David will enter the heavenly country without, or before, Moses, Lazarus, Sean McDowell, or Rosaria, etc.
I submit that the first and most consequential lie ever told was the lie Satan told to Eve - don't believe God, you WON'T SURELY DIE!
Understanding that without a resurrection from the dead nobody would ever live again is a truth that needs to be proclaimed above all other. The gospel of grace is the good news of how to attain to that resurrection and enter the Kingdom of God.
40:10 the church for nearly two thousand years has professed that sabbath breaking is not a sin. Fighting this sin in the first century would've been relatively easy but since we've been told for so long we don't have to fight this sin because its not even a sin (get off my back) it has become "a monster." Rosaria exclaims, "how am I going to fight a monster." How, indeed?
Billions of professing Christians believe there are only nine commandments. The one sign between God and HIS people (yes at first it was just Israel including the Jews) is ONE thing the Adversary wants to obscure or erase because he knows missing the mark by a foot is as good as missing it by a mile.
42:47 because acceptance of breaking the fourth commandment has become such a monster many are breaking it "oops by accident" but many more are willingly ignoring the monster rather than fighting it. Yes, Rosaria, if one denys another the opportunity to repent of a sin, they are doing the work of Satan. In politics they're called "useful idiots."
44:45 Wisdom beyond which even she may know. A Christian is a person who repents of sin, who KNOWS what sin is (1 John 3:4 sin IS transgressing God's law) and repents of it. Except, it would seem, when it comes to the fourth commandment in God's law.
46:37 rebellion against the "created order" ??? The seventh day Sabbath was made at creation as part of that order. No doubt it has continued as such despite human and satanic efforts to eliminate it.

I'm a born-again Christian woman who has a daughter who is now a transgender man. When I was pregnant with this child, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said that I was having a girl and to name her Sarah. I did. She was in her mid teens when she was starting to question her gender. I have 3 kids, and they were subjected to violence and terror from their own father. All 3 have been through soooo much trauma. After I fled the home, they were all going through their own issues, I was a mess too. They had problems that were above my pay grade. They all saw me collapse, and I was going down a dark path. They all have had issues with the church we had attended, and they walked away from their mothers' faith. All I could do was make a decision to love them and try to support them. I know my children are in Gods Hands. I pray they find their way. He knows them all. And I can not say they are damned to hell, but I'm trusting that others will be sent to say what I need them to hear. They won't hear it from me. I'm too close

I've seen several interviews with Rosaria since this book has come out. Rosaria is an amazing avenue of God's truth and grace. Without saying so explicitly, Rosaria is pointing out that the evangelical church does not believe that the Gospel changes lives. (Hence Andy Stanley). Sean, I LOVED your questions and it brought out so much depth in what Rosaria is communicating. Rosaria should write a book on sanctification.

Interesting conversation on attraction here.
It just goes to show what a slippery thing the English language can be.
When Rosaria dealt with: “Is attraction itself a sin?” she considered it in terms of referring to the action/verb. -as in:
- Finding someone attractive
- Being attracted to them
- Having some sort of physical desire for them
There’s no difference between Attraction and Desire in this case.
But what Josh was trying to get at had to do with “attraction” as more of an attribute or an adjective. -as in:
Recognizing where someone ranks on the spectrum of human “attractiveness”. Here “attractiveness” is just being used as a synonym for “good looks” or “beauty”. But there isn’t technically any “attraction” occurring. It’s merely a detached appraisal of someone’s looks.
Like when a man says, “Ugh, I’m never going to be as good looking as that guy.” or a woman tells her friend that she wishes she had her hair or her figure or what-have-you.
I enjoyed listening to Dr. Rosaria because she is very honest about her life and her struggles. She used "we live in the age of Moloch" see Leviticus 18:21
However, the message I get is we do not compromise on Sin and call out Sin, but we act with love towards everyone and pray for repentance.

I think that the thing that I am confused about is that it seems like Rosaria (whom I love) and Jared Moore are saying if I am tempted by my old sin, resist it by the grace of God, and turn from it, that I have sinned and need to repent. What other sin is treated that way?
I do believe that we should refer to it as homosexual sin and it's something that we need to repent of. I don't believe when a Christian resists temptation, they need to repent.
I'm completely new in my walk with Christ but I've heard it said (with all sins) that if we have the "thought", that's what we should be repenting? Regardless of which sin we're leaning toward?
@@JoyinFlorida I wonder if what you are referring to is Jesus's words that say if we even look on another person to lust, we have committed adultery already in our heart. That is different than being tempted by a sin. Otherwise, who of us are not ever tempted? Do we need to repent constantly? Did Jesus need to repent when He was "tempted in every way", yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15)?
I was deeply involved in homosexual sin. I came to the Lord in repentance during college. It was a long battle, but slowly the Holy Spirit renewed my mind. Since then, I have married (36 years), had eleven children, and expecting our 29th grandchild. I still can be tempted by a certain type of goodlooking man, but I resist that with His power. I believe Satan knows where he had us bound and tries that same approach to trip us after we come to Christ. But through the power of Jesus, I am free.
We are all victims of and participants in Sin Nature. I think that is what it means. I think she does go easier on fallen straight sexuality. As a same-sex attracted Christian I need to take it to the Lord every day because I don't believe there are humans who fully explain what it means.

I feel like Butterfield may be off on one issue here. I have nothing but respect for her, but I can't help but think she might be mistaken when it comes to temptation and sin. She says a few times "the sin of homosexual temptation." Scripture seems to make a distinction between temptation and sin, especially in Matthew 4:1-11, where Jesus is tempted by the devil, though He never gives into sin. Either Butterfield is defining her terms differently than most people, or she actually believes that temptation to sin is sin itself. Temptation is certainly a result of the fall, which we must recognize, but there is a level at which we can be tempted to a sin, including for some, homosexuality, that is not sin itself. It becomes sin when we make a decision to follow through, either mentally, as lust, or physically, in homosexual activity. This, as she says, is true of all sins. I wonder what Butterfield would say about Jesus's temptation, and what that says about our own temptation to sin.
@scottmccoy127 I think you are right. She made no provision for resisting temptation as a way to avoid committing sin. Hebrews 4:15 KJV says Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin". Is she suggesting that Jesus sinned because he was tempted? I don't think she would ever say that, but that she seems willing to lay an extra burden of guilt on people who are repentant of same sex attraction and resist homosexual behavior doesn't seem helpful to me. Resisting sin IS repentance!

Love this interview. Very helpful. I recently learned my daughter whose 14, has been sexually abused and now thinks she’s gay. I’m totally lost at what to do because he chose to tell her dad because he’s more accepting and she knows my Christian views so I’m supposed to pretend I don’t know. I feel she needs therapy but her dad thinks she’s fine so I don’t know what to do.
I vote yes. Get it out in the light. Take her to do something you both enjoy and crack that awkward topic wide open. Emphasize your love for her and that your relationship will still be strong, but also let her know your concern. Keep it lighthearted. First learn as much from Rosaria and others like her as possible. Maybe you could write to her?
Okay... So those are just ideas. You and God know the situation better than anyone. Keep talking to him and I'm sure you two will come up with an answer on whether or not to address the topic, and if so, what's the best way to do it. Praying for ya!
I am so sad that happened to your daughter, and I expect it is very hard for you, also. The first step is to deal with the abuse. Learn as much as possible about how to help her deal with that, because there is continuing fallout until that wound and the potential demonic doors it opened are healed. The other is a symptom of the deeper wounds.
Take her to a counselor with her father amd work through the issues. Short of the Abrahamic religion perspective, there is nothing wrong with your daughter's preference.
You should focus on healing the trauma of the SA before you begin to approach anything else.
Edit: If the father won't engage in therapy. Try it with your daughter and find a therapist that focuses on trauma. Keep in mind if your daughter does not want the help, forcing it won't do any good. I hope your daughter heals from the SA.
God is in Control love her no matter what. Don’t ever give up Jesus never gave up on you.
You start with love.
You tell her you know because you are her mother (and mothers just know), but you still love her even if you don’t agree. Don’t nag her about it, let her choose but you continue to pray behind closed doors.
Keep the conversation calm, not emotional.
Then over time, explore what hurts her (ie: past bullying?, past SA that you didn’t know about?) and help her get therapy for that.
Like Rosario said, gender identity becomes secondary. The person comes first.

Rosaria Butterfield is awesome, a much needed voice in our church. Love her! I do think I'm a little confused when she says "the sin of homosexual temptation" though. I think most people would say that temptation is not sin (Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness but never sinned). Sin is if we give in to temptation, not temptation itself. If we define same-sex attraction or homosexual desire as temptation, not sin or lust, then wouldn't that make it not a sin, but one of many temptations to sin that some people experience? Might be the only area I would potentially disagree with her on here.
What if we substituted the phrase same-sex attraction to attracted to Satan or attracted to idolatry or attracted to stealing shiny beautiful things?
What a great parallel to use for explanation.

I appreciate having a diversity of Christians talking about this subject. I think it is an iron sharpening iron process. I do agree with Rosaria that within our country we see such a heavy push towards a LGBQ belief system that is unbiblical. I think we do have to be careful to call temptation a sin. In Hebrews 14:-4-6 it talks about Jesus being tempted in every way but never sinning. I think that can be harmful and unbiblical to say that temptation is a sin. James 1:14 talks about desire ‘conceiving’ into sin. It seems that there is a point where desire turns into sin. The NIV version says when that desire become pregnant. There seems to be a point where temptation is embraced at some level. I think it is important to discern that out. I think this is a challenging topic because within our bodies it’s seems possible to have certain desires and we need to present out bodies a living sacrifice to God but again those temptations within our person does not seem to be nessecarily a sin according to Hebrews. I think psychologically different types of experiences could also influence a persons sexuality such as abuse or other things and we have to be careful in how we interact with others in. assumptions. I think it’s important to discern where each person is at and if we communicate automatic sin to a person struggling with different desires we may not be acting in truth or grace. Rosaries experience is not necessarily others. I think we also have ti careful to say that homosexuality is why the church is struggling in America. The research seems to point to secular influence as well as failures of the church and that is so important to look at. Another caution is in dealing with young people within a very confusing world and how we care for them and communicate with them about their struggles or sins in this area.
I admire her for speaking up about these issues. Great talk and super helpful information. But her allegiance to the Westminster Confession and her Reformed theology does distort much of the conversation about sin.
Not sure I understand the connection between reformed theology and a distorted view of sin. Maybe you can explain a bit about why you say that. That would be helpful, if you wouldn't mind.
@@heartofalegend Sure! I’m happy to discuss it further if you like. There is so much that could be said. I have tremendous respect and appreciation for Rosaria and her speaking out about these issues. It’s difficult to know exactly how to explain what I mean without knowing your own perspective. (Reformed Christian, non-reformed Christian, or not familiar with reformed theology yet,)
The reason I say it skews the conversation is because (most?) non-reformed Christians reject Reformed theology’s concepts of original guilt and “total depravity/original corruption” in the first place. So non-reformed Christians would probably discuss sin and repentance in general in a very different way since we don’t agree that the Reformed concepts align with reality or with what we read in Scripture. She referenced being reformed and talked about “other reformed people”, and referenced the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF) several times. This is her subset of Christianity. The WCF says the “original corruption” they believe in remains even in “those that are regenerated” which in my opinion produces a hyper-focus on the cycle of sin and repentance in the life of the believer instead of focusing on new life, freedom and liberty in Christ!
Even the parts about her saying desire/attraction is a sin - she said “The way the Westminster confession frames it is that in desire is a motion. Desire isn’t a passive comatose state. Because we are morally responsible for our fallen nature - the sin of Adam is Rosaria’s to fight against, not someone else’s. God did not give this to me. I LOVE IT. And my LOVING of my sin, yeah, my loving of my sin, insofar as the motion of the desire of it is ITSELF a sin”
As far as I can tell, this view does not come from the Bible. The wicked may continue to love their sin but the righteous certainly do not. There is more that could be said, but that is the reason in general why I say that her holding these reformed views skews the discussion about sin.

@@heartofalegend I’m not trying to say that she’s in error on anything specific, but because I personally think all reformed theology and the WCF is a big error, I’m just saying that her adherence to those 2 things makes this conversation go differently than it would if she wasn’t reformed.
