Says who? You? Who are you? You skimmed through the comments to say that? Name one group that’s had the same multi-platinum success that New Edition has had AND was able to split off into solo acts and achieve equal or more success? None. Transcending four different eras; the eighties, nineties, two-thousands and the two thousand-tens? Whatever I say about New Edition isn’t a slight to any of the groups you named, but those groups you mentioned didn’t make it out of the 70’s and the albums they released in the 80’s/90’s were lackluster at best, sold no records and weren’t even talked about. Pound for pound, New Edition is the better group compared to those four. Those groups don’t even compare to the Jackson 5/The Jacksons. When you talk about greatness you have to factor in artistry, commercial sales, solo success, generational relevance and influence. When we talk about modern R&B, every group will cite The Jackson 5 or New Edition as their influences. You should’ve mentioned The Temptations because your argument will not hold up. You would’ve been more accurate in saying “I think heatwave, blue magic, stylistically and the whispers are goats too”, not the nonsensical comment that you left which just screams contrarian. NE are GOATS of R&B, and if you do attempt to respond stay in pocket.
Delicious, I'm Leaving You Again, Hide and Seek in my opinion could and should have been hit singles. Don't like MaryAnn all that much but Hide and Seek was always a favorite.
@@misterDjayMDJ They we’re great as usual. I wish they can do some One Love songs. Dag you haven’t seen them in a minute lol. I mean with all 6. We saw them about 3 or 4 years ago. Met Mike and took a pic with Ronnie. Down to earth brothers
Yes, most definitely, I agree with a lot of the other people in the chat. The New Edition was one of the top, one, the best R&B pop young men (very young men) groups of the 80s and 90s into 2000s! Give them their props. Bravo to them. I and many many others Love them, talented they were and are. They are the greatest. They belong in the Top-Greatest category.
Great album retrospective video MDJ! I enjoyed watching this and New Edition self-titled is one of my favorite albums right there alongside the Heartbreak album. I love all the songs on the album from the first track and till the last track. Keep up the good work and hope you do their next one All For Love album soon. Can't wait for another album retrospective on your channel.
I saw another one of your videos before watching this one, and this one confirms what I commented on the other one. I was saying how I feel bad for Ralph because he was a pawn in a chess game played by the label, writers, etc. They pretty much forced him into the lead and it caused the other members to resent him, and I honestly believe he never wanted that STRAIN on their friendship and brotherhood. I can only imagine how much tension that created amongst them. And being so young, they more than likely didn’t know how to talk that out and maneuver through it in a healthy/productive way at that time.
I look at that two different ways: Jump&Shoot and MCA made a business decision at making Ralph the frontman and revolving songs around him. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Candy Girl went platinum, they figured it’d go double platinum if they repeated the formula and they were right. On the other hand I do think management started going a bit overboard by giving Ralph costumes that stood out from the group. Which made the situation worse, that’s why Ralph had to go to management cause they [BBD] were starting to ostracize Ralph off-stage. Thing is, Ralph was The Guy; he had the look, voice and talent. Management was just following the pattern with groups that came before them, where the emphasis was placed on the lead singer. Just like how Michael Jackson was The Guy of the Jackson 5/Jacksons.
Ronnie had a solo project in the works around 1997 "Big Ron DeVoe"...there were a few song clips posted on his personal website before it was taken down. Can we get a vid. On Ron & his unreleased album!?!?...These vids. Of N.E. your posting are GREAT! thank you so much for sharing NEW EDITION's rich history with us !....the soundtrack to my life!💥💯💪
Maryann should have been a single. Also, "Hide and Seek" was originally sung by British Pop group Five Star earlier in 1984. NE also recorded "Peer Pressure" for Mr. T's tv special during the sessions for the self titled album and recorded "Gold Mine", which was a B side single
Apreciate the Retrospect Of Bostons Own i always Thought Maurice Starr was Producing There Albums @ Candy 🍬 Girl im Glad MCA Signed Them And the Rest is History 40 Year Anniversary The Culture Tour 2023 Ronnie Bobby Ricky Mike & Ralph ! 💯
The home again album in my opinion is the greatest NE album ever. Because it showcase all six members talents vocally as a group.Maryann is my favorite song on that album.Along with leaving you and baby love. I feel that pure greed shortchanged NE . Because years later that home again album proved that the one front man formula thinking although successful. It should not have been that way with NE.
Mary Ann, Lost in Love, Mr. Telephone, and I'm Leaving You Again should've been the lane for this album. The fellas were in the mid teens but the sound didn't stray too far from bubblegum. Cool it now, def is something for the pop charts so that stays. Hide & Seek sounds like it was something that should've been on Candy Girl, so even tho I dig the song, I'd leave it off, and instead being a count me out onto this album. Kinda Girls closes the album. Maybe 3 more fillers written for Ricky, Bobby & Ralph to exchange lead on & some parts for Ronnie & mike to get off to with their limited range & I say this album is still a platinum hit but New Edition gets the respek our name moment & could've shed the bubblegum theme by the All for Love album, completely
W RUclipsr for making countless videos about the greatest R&B group of all time
They’re the GOATS, thank you man I appreciate it 💯🔥🤝
Heatwave, Blue Magic, Stylistics, The Whispers. NE is great, but they are not the GOATS.

Brook Payne was a genius, NE executed his vision.
Leaving you again would be sampled by Bow Wow and Ciara "Like you" in 2005.
