- Bobby Brown's debut album released on December 9th, 1986; true to it's title; King of Stage was the prelude to his eventual takeover of the industry. Following his departure New Edition, Bobby Brown was offered a record deal with MCA. Collaborating with Larry Blackmon and John Luongo to create the album's singles: Girlfriend, Girl Next Door, and Seventeen. King of Stage contains musical gems like Spending Time, Love Obsession, Baby I Wanna Tell You Something and much more. This video dives into the album's history and tracklist in detail.

I love Bobby Brown. He was THE man back in the day
I still feel like Girl Next Door should've been first.. Then slow it down with the mid song Girlfriend. This is an undervalued album because this was Bobby coming into his peak. With out Off the Wall we wouldn't have Thriller. Its the same with the KOS album without it we wouldn't have Don't Be Cruel
I remember as a kid a lot of white kids knew NE, but many of those same white kids were indifferent to this tape, maybe it was too black at the time & Bobby was ahead of schedule. New Kids came out around this time too shifting the crossover focus away from Bobby.

Hes sold more records with one album then New Edition has sold with all their albums combined... somebody on here said why was he singled out like he wasnt in New Edition... its because hes career solo on one album was Bananas!!! These young folk dont get it but I do I remember when Candy Girl first dropped on the radio to when Bobby hit with Dont be Cruel it was like wow...
Bobby Brown is a legend with folks my age. I'm 54, he was bad ass. Drugs fucked him up but he killed it with his music and dance. I will always have Bobby Brown as a top r n b dude

Even though it wasn’t a single Spending Time got a lot of radio play back in the day. A Quiet Storm staple back in 87’…one of his best vocal performances.

Great video album retrospective of Bobby Brown's King Of Stage. I enjoyed watching this and i think his first album was great. I like four songs on their Girlfriend, Girl Next Door, Seventeen and Baby I Wanna Tell You Something. Keep up the good work as always and i know you're gonna do New Edition's Under The Blue Moon album next. Can't wait for that one!

I often listen to this album & All For Love together. This record came out when I was in 1st grade & I remember my cousin having it & All For Love.
