    I planted my first batch of catnip April 2021 and the frost never killed it off. It's been growing and surviving just fine. In winter months when we had snow, it just went dormant but it didn't die. Then it came back with a vengeance and got over 5ft tall! I've just had to prune it back to 3-4 inches due to space but I have another 3 plants for my cats growing this year too! This stuff seems to be extremely hardy! Thank you for your experience

      It is surprisingly simple to keep alive. At least outside anyway. I have never tried to grow it inside.

    I have just started with seeds. I'm on week two, and they're just getting little sprouts coming up right now. I'm excited to see If they will continue to grow all 3 of my cats like the spray cat nip that I use on their toys. So hopefully I am successful.

      Yay! So excited for you! We have one cat that loves the live catnip and another that prefers the dry. When it gets tall enough cut them off some leaves and see what they think of it. :)

    I've had mine for three years now in Wisconsin and I love it. It smells great, the bees love it, and it comes back every year. It does spread a bit but that can be controlled if you take care of it.

    I just received some catnip seeds from amazon and no instructions! So I found you (thank you) and I am going to try growing these seeds. I live in a very cold environment so I think I am going to start them inside and depending how the summer turns out, I may try them outdoors. Typically, we have three months between last and first frost. That being said, so far north it can be unpredictable. Last year, our first frost was mid September. You can normally depend on the first frost to happen September 1st. We have had some summers that only reached 20 C once or twice per year, other summers it can hit a sweltering 29 C for several days. I will update you on my progress!

    Thank you for your informative video tutorial on growing catnip/catmint. Love your cat! My catmint bushes are huge with purple flowers starting to show up and the ladybugs seem to love them. I am hoping to harvest the stalks more than anything else and I am wondering if they will dry enough to be used like a catnip stick similar to those you buy as a cat toothbrush/toy for chewing and dental aid? My cat absolutely loves them but lately they are sold as really thin sticks which don't last long and I am concerned they will splinter and cause an injury to his mouth. This is my first time in growing catmint too and oddly enough they survived the severe frosts we have over here in Victoria Australia.

    • @ThatCatMommy
      @ThatCatMommy  2 года назад

      We did not dry out the sticks which I should have now that you bring it up. lol. I would try it and then just test it out with your hand to see what you think before giving it to your kitty.

    I'm just now trying to grow some from seeds. I bought 4 plants and my cats, who LOVE it, have practically destroyed them. The plants were pretty expensive, seeds are cheaper, I just hope they grow.

    Hey Carla where do you buy cat nip seeds & not online. ❤

    • @ThatCatMommy
      @ThatCatMommy  7 месяцев назад +1

      The best seeds I ever got were 4 years ago online. However, they were out of stock so this year I went to a home improvement store and got a pack. The first pack was a dud so I got another pack at another home improvement store and it just did OK. I would try to get them local or at like a greenhouse or something. I would not buy them at a big chain again. ❤❤️

      Hi! My name is Carla. I am not 100% sure but I think it dies in the winter and you have to replant it. We always harvest before it gets cold and replant in the spring. ❤️

  • @The_Black_Anarchist

    It's not easy. I have been trying for years. I get them to germinate but they always die. They either get too much water or not enough.

    • @ThatCatMommy
      @ThatCatMommy  Год назад

      It would depend on where you lived. I am in the southern USA. So in the summer, we have good sunlight and warm weather. We just watered ours 1 time a day at night and it just grew with no other care needed. However, if you lived somewhere and you had cooler weather and not a lot of sunlight I could imagine it would be harder to grow. Don't give up though just keep trying. ❤️

    • @ThatCatMommy

      Also, I saw a plant app on TikTok that you can take a pic of the plant and it will tell you what it needs. I don't remember the name of it but something like that might help also. Best wishes.

      @@ThatCatMommy I live in Texas. I am going to buy a live plant and grow them from cuttings.

    • @ThatCatMommy
      @ThatCatMommy  Год назад +2

      @Jay-C's Setting The Record Straight Podcast That is a great plan! You might already know this but I just want to make sure you have the info since you are in TX and gets hot like it does here. Make sure to water the plant in the early Am or in the late PM when the sun is NOT at its peak. The reason for this is the water will heat up and basically boil/steam your plant to death. I learned that the hard way, unfortunately. lol. ❤️
