I've got a huge rosemary bush in my yard that's over 7 years old and somehow survived the South Florida humidity. I think it originated as a novelty centerpiece from a Christmas party many years ago and has managed to survive. Tough plant that smells amazing

i never realized how tricky it was to get rosemary to grow from seeds! we had huge rosemary bushes in my childhood yard, they seemed like the most durable plant back there. our old dog would actually sleep in one of them and she would come inside smelling of rosemary. they got to be somewhat of a nuisance and were removed long after i moved out, but they've become associated with some nostalgia and good memories for me. i was hoping to grow my own but it kinda seems like i'll be biting off more than i can chew. this video is very helpful though. wish me luck!

I learned something new! Somehow I missed that Rosemary is similar to Lavender. That makes so much sense why it takes so long to grow. I currently have two Rosemary and one Lavender (both from MIgardener) growing under lights and it is true how slow they are. They've been at it since February and they're still only a few inches tall, but they are healthy. I germinated mine in soil blocks and they seem to be very happy in them (started in 3/4" and upped to 2").

I think the problem arises with Rosemary due to soil and overcare, most multi purpose composts are built to retain moisture and most herbs and vegatables lap it up, they love constant waterings and there is alot of room for error, and gardeners like to keep busy, maintain plants and overcare, Rosemary you almost have to treat as a mix between a normal herb and a cactus or succulent, obviously it isnt a cactus or succulent but it likes to be kept more on the dry side and have well drained soil that doesnt retain too much moisture, infact ive heard a cactus soil can be very beneficial for it, i haven't tried yet though, obviously the difference though is Rosemary does still like quite a high humidity (although still low) compared to say a succulent, i think this is why they are difficult, there at a strange middle ground between the differences in care

I've been bringing my rosemary in for a few years now. It does well for me under a cheap grow bulb I put in a lamp. Rosemary really does not like to be watered and hates having wet roots. Mine gets a drink maybe every 2 or 3 weeks. It's one of the few plants that will take in water through it's leaves so I lightly mist a couple times a week. Soon I'll start hardening mine back off and get it outside again.

When you propagate Rosemary does the cutting get big and branchy like the established Rosemary? I took several cuttings last year and got them to root but they've basically stayed a single sprig of Rosemary all winter long and now into spring 😂 Does anyone have experience with Rosemary cuttings that can help me with this question? Tia

Whenever I cold stratify rosemary seeds before I put them in the fridge they develop a gel coating similar to basil seeds and when I take them out the gel coating is gone and my seeds don’t germinate can you help me troubleshoot this ?

I had that coating on my seeds after taking them out of the fridge this year. Not one rosemary seed sprouted, and only one lavender seed. 😢

We can’t grow rosemary outside here, so over the years I’ve trained a rosemary ball topiary. It is my most prized plant possession. My husband accuses me of getting my greenhouse just to put the rosemary in. He might be right.

You only need one rosemary bush for a family, and if you live in a warm dry climate it will produce more than you will ever need and you don't have to do anything to it ever again. Just buy one bush, you're done for life, I can't imagine needing to grow it from seed for any reason lol

I think I’ll just buy one at the grocery store. I planted seeds, but only 1 sprouted. I tore down my giant rosemary bush, now I realize that was a big mistake.

@@shannonschjolin6253 Several sources states that it does. So I recommend doing research on it, if that is something that you are interested in. We grow herbs as a way to deter pests. Only found recently that ticks are one of the pests that hate rosemary.
