When I was a kid we had a 1966 Ski-doo and my cousin had a 1965 Ski-doo. We rode them all over the place. One of the skis poked a hole in the gas tank and my dad didn't want to fix it and obviously he didn't think about using a gas can, so he got rid of it. My cousin's is still running. Cool video, brought back a ton of memories, thanks.
Riding those old Ski-doo's is a younger man's game, it brings back a lot of memories, it always seemed like you were spending more time getting it unstuck then actually riding, or at least in the deep powder it was, thanks for the trip down memory lane 😂👍
What a blast, growing up as a kid my brothers and I would share seat time on a 72 Elan. Hours of entertainment, and 40 years later that single cylinder still fires right up!
man this bring back memories. my dad lives in NH and collects vintage snowmobies and thats all we would ride. reminds me of when i was a kid. Unfortunately we dont speak anymore.
When I was in high school we would skip school on powder days before anyone else could track things up. We had 12.3 Olympic, a 70’s model. Can’t remember the exact year. My buddy had a 15 horse Olympic, had the more sporty cowl. They were so much fun in the pow cause they just float on the pow. Like you said they are so light and had enough power to get thru the deep snow. We’d jump em and make bomb holes in the snow. Carve em through the open fields . I grew up in Northern Maine. This brought back some great memories.
Love it! Had quite a few of them old Oly's I put on a set of 8" ski expanders & some fat Alpine skis on a 69 I had. Took the tippy right out of it & was a blast to ride in powder.
Great video, really enjoyed watching you plow through the powder with the different camera angles. Plus the distinctive sound of the one lungers. I have a 1970 Ski-Doo 12/3 Olympique, before that I had an Elan. I'm not even interested in modern sleds. None my buddies on new sleds could keep up to my Elan when racing around endless pine trees in deep powder, it is like you said, similar to a Jet Ski. I found the best way to ride is on my knees with each foot hanging down either side of the seat, as the upper body is what really steers the narrow machine through the powder. I can go for hours like that. I wish Ski-Doo would bring back at least a limited run of the Elan 250 single, they would sell every one of them. Thanks for putting this video up!
That was the exact same sled I had for my first snowmobile in 1969. I’m still riding this days not the same sled but I agree with you those were the most fun. Getting stuck was not a issue.
I had one almost identical to yours when I was twelve. It was my first snowmobile and I got it in 77’. Man I thought that thing was the best thing since sliced bread. I don’t recall having as many problems with tipping or getting stuck as you did in this video but maybe it was because I weighed considerably less back then. Lol. Great little sled for a first timer. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Reminds me when i was a kid. A friend's Dad 2 doors down, had a skidoo dealership. Always broken hoods and windshields. These things go on their side so easily
I have a 71 elan 250 2 stroke. It still needs a couple things done but it runs. Had it out a couple times last winter. They are fun and are a little work to ride because they're so narrow.
Absolutely awesome, thanks much,I grew up with these and they went really good for the time but consider how easy you get it unstuck, just right it up and off it goes, it did really well in that deep snow, I almost get a heart attack getting my polaris 151 unstuck...lol
I miss the one my father had when i little kid i sat in fornt of carb I couldn't see over the front i could see out the sides happy memories of my child the traction it had in the deeper snow it hardly ever got stuck
Nice old sled! Put a lot of miles on one of them. My uncle had one he would drive right through his barn and out the back door that was about 10’ off the ground.
Old sleds are so dang much work to ride and the knees take a pounding. Looking at that new kitty you got there.... I can't wait to see that one ride! Sure will be a lot less work to ride!
@@mainetroutwhisperer Well sweet niblets I like it. I only this year started watching your videos and trying to expand my Maine fishing trips. I never needed a sled when I fished out in Minnesota since we just drove our trucks out on the ice. Here that's just not an option like back home so guess I need to pick up one so I can get out onto Moosehead and such.
had a 69 in 74 as a kid. yes, fun all day! you had to tip them sideways once in a while and give it gas to clean out the bogies. super reliable motor. nothing like wearing a old aftermarket full snowmobile suit with gas back spittin out the carb when i gave it gas. the only problem with these type bogie suspensions were the rear axle/bearings. they do not have any grease fittings and after a while the bearings seize and ruin the rear axle. to this day i try to think of a fix for that.
Broke your spindles, the best thing to do is get a inch to inch and a half block between the leaf and the part that it attaches to. This will put more pressure on the runner, without overstepping the spindles. No problems with spindles after that. Oh also I had carbide runners.
Why is it whenever I look for antique snowmobiles it’s always in Maine or Canada? Lol miss my home state. I had a very old moto ski and I miss banging around the woods of Maine with it! Man these things where such a pain to ride on fresh snow! It was like riding on a barrel! Lol this video brings back good memories hahaa
Bro that thing is bad ass. Looks like you're having a blast! Kind of reminds me of my Bravo 250 I love ripping around on that thing. At 9:04 looks like a rub on a tree on your left?
Looks a lot like my first ski-doo, flip-up headlight, 7 1/2 hp, but mine had a storage compartment in the back of the seat. After you rode it, you smelt like ski-doo...
12./3 came out in 69. Before that not sure the hp.but it was a 247cc engine. After mine grenaded the second time it got a modified 293 Sachs engine transplant!
oNE THING i Didnt like was the ski doo suspension they were too tippy the boggy wheels look like your enjoying it though and some like the olimpics or nordics were better and a wider track so to each his own I guess as I was raised around arctic cats cool until you got stuck as they were a heavier machine
Sorry to say you don't know how to ride a real snowmobile. This is coming from an antique. I had an 1972 olympic skidoo. You let the snowmobile float under you. You're just overworking the dang thing, nothing wrong with old machines.

That sled is beautiful! It was more fun than I expected to watch you rip around in that piece of history!
What a blast, growing up as a kid my brothers and I would share seat time on a 72 Elan. Hours of entertainment, and 40 years later that single cylinder still fires right up!
Reminds me soo much of my '71 Olympique 335, my first sled. I made a toolbox just like yours in 1978!
man this bring back memories. my dad lives in NH and collects vintage snowmobies and thats all we would ride. reminds me of when i was a kid. Unfortunately we dont speak anymore.
Only seen two of these for parts on the side of the road ever. Sick to see this machine alive and happy!
It’s so much fun.
Keep the track spinning it will go anywhere, those and Elans have a big footprint on snow is why! I love it.

First snowmobile I ever rode on when I was 10 years old still remember to this day. My father bought new.
Super Olympic 14 hp

Thanks. Great childhood memories from the '70s in Ste-Lucie,QC with this noise maker.
That old 1-Lunger is awesome. Looks like it is in pretty good shape too.
Boy do I remember those days 👍👍
This deserves more views. That's a piece of history lol
Right!

A magnificent effort thanks a ton for the shot in the arm.. I’m stuck away from my machines for another month or so. A++👍🙏👋

My first sled was a 67 Olympic. Much fun for a 12 year old!
Reminds me when i was a kid. A friend's Dad 2 doors down, had a skidoo dealership. Always broken hoods and windshields. These things go on their side so easily
Great camera angles. Thanks for the nice ride. I used to own a 1968 Super Olympique 300. This really brought back memories.
Beautiful sled amazing shape, so cool that you still rip it
Great video! Sled runs great and you handled it like a pro!
I have a 71 elan 250 2 stroke. It still needs a couple things done but it runs. Had it out a couple times last winter. They are fun and are a little work to ride because they're so narrow.
Nice video brings back nice memories growing up in N.Y. I used to have a 1969 669cc Ski-Doo TNT awesome sled
That’s cool ass hell man my first snowmobile was a 72 250 elan. Looks like yours is running really good!!!
Absolutely awesome, thanks much,I grew up with these and they went really good for the time but consider how easy you get it unstuck, just right it up and off it goes, it did really well in that deep snow, I almost get a heart attack getting my polaris 151 unstuck...lol
Hell ya she’s rippin dude! I smell a vintage trail ride in our future!
Can’t wait to ride !! Man that was awesome 😊
That is why my 67 super olympic is out back I am to old for shit now good to see someone still riding the way we use too.
I never rode a vintage sled before but she goes faster in that deep powder then I thought it would
I couldn't agree more they handle just like a Sea-Doo 20 in of snow that's the only thing you can identify it to thanks
That old skidoo is awesome!!
Spent many days on old Ski-doo's. Best memories as a kid. My Dad bought a new Ski-doo in 69' for around $600.00.
Old sleds are so dang much work to ride and the knees take a pounding. Looking at that new kitty you got there.... I can't wait to see that one ride! Sure will be a lot less work to ride!
Here ya go! Lol

The old bombers with bogies are tough to beat they go anywhere....👍
Gunna feel that in the morning, straight up beast mode
Hell of a workout ain't they? 🙂 love to find another one. I put ski wideners on the 2 I've had...helped quite a bit!

Dude that looked like a Blast!!! you really gotta fight that thing; i was grinnin from ear to ear for ya! great stuff :D

Nice old sled I road one like it a lot of miles when I was a kid
Put’er in da races bud! 😂👍
Awesome man!!!!
Crazy snow. Great conditions
Had a Ski-Doo scandict 1971 19-in track wouldn't go over 35 but would go anywhere best snowmobile
One of those that you don’t ride any further than you wanna walk. That is pretty sweet tho!
Exactly! Haha. Don’t ever turn it off till you get back home.
Man, that thing Puuuuurrrrrrrsssss
Thanks for the video
what a sweet sled!
Add one the same, fixed it up then sold it butt was cool to have.

lol first time i heard that saying "she old one lunger"
Same year and model as the first sled I owned!
Thanks for sharing..Be careful out there..You should have a buddy or good cellular phone
Back in the day when you really had to "Ride" a sled. Looks exhausting.
And to think most people would not even bothered with a machine that old.
Drive these with one knee on the seat, or standing up on the more challenging terrain.
Hey I live in central Maine and was wondering how you built the seat box and how you attached it?
reminds me of an old 12 hp arctic cat very hard to pull and start and very slow
💯
As much fun or more so than the new stuff.
👍👍👊
Those were made for the times when groomed trails did not exist! You can thread your way between trees and go places a modern machine can't.
Rode those as a kid. 12.3 hp?
I believe so!
12./3 came out in 69. Before that not sure the hp.but it was a 247cc engine. After mine grenaded the second time it got a modified 293 Sachs engine transplant!
Haha so bad ass deff a work out tho
