You need to be doing more cymbal reviews. You have a great ear and way of articulating exactly the characteristics of these cymbals in a way that we can relate.
Beloved Music thank you! Yeah, this kick was amazing. It was part of a full kit which I sold it a while back but I seriously miss this kick. The punch/body/low end was unlike any other kick I’ve played. I’m watching for a good deal on another bass drum like it
Quick question man, I’m debating which ride to get, the 26” epic or the 26” jazz. I’m carrying a 22” custom dry light ride and I need a ride that would complement it. I will solely carry two cymbals and will use the ride as a crash too for fills. Which one do you recommend?
Hey, man! Really I think either one would blend in nicely with your custom dry. The epic would be a little voice and the jazz would be a darker voice. I’d think more in terms of where you want your overall sound on the kit to land. Because your choice of ride cymbal is one of the biggest defining factors of your whole sound. So do you want your sound to be really smooth, lush and shimmery? Go with the epic..... do you want your sound to be dark, gritty and complex? Go with the jazz.
ana martinez really, either would work great... I’ve played both in church - loud and soft settings. Honestly, just comes down to which tone you like better. The epic is a more “normal” sounding cymbal.... the jazz is more edgy (low, dark and gritty)... but if your room is challenging acoustically, I would go with the Jazz Ride. Also, an update since this video - they now offer the jazz 24” in “light” and “medium” weights. Mine would classify as medium. The lights are way more crash like...I could see the wash getting out of control. I think the medium is perfection
which one of these is more similar to the dream bliss 24 inch flat bell ride? I think you had an older video showing you played this before. Thank you!
Hey! My other video was a Dream 22" Vintage Bliss... I've never actually played the 24" flat bell. So I can't really say. From the Dreams I'm familiar with, I want to say the epic will be closer. Dream's tend to have the trashy quality in the wash which the epic doesn't have. But otherwise, they would be pretty similar. The jazz has a lot wider frequency range it covers.
@@KrisRedusJazz Thanks so much for the reply. I was having trouble deciding between these 2. I was planning on getting the Dream 24 but want another ride that is different so i will look into getting the Jazz
Thanks, dude! I haven’t had a chance to play the light version. Mine is from before they had the 2 versions but the weight classifies it as a medium. I’ve heard from others that the light is a lot more crash like.... less stick definition, more wash. But I really need to try one in person!
Yeah, I saw that too! I was checking the weight of the Medium Jazz and Epic and they're basically the same. I also checked that the you can flip the Light one like a tortilla haha because it's extremely thin 😂
@@KrisRedusJazz Hey Kris! I was wondering the same thing. I recently just bought a Heartbeat Jazz 24in light ride and I ended up being really disappointed because it is extremely LOUD. So I was wondering if maybe it had to do with the difference between it being a light ride or a medium ride. Loved the video by the way. Thanks!
@@christianchandler6973 hey, man! Sorry for the disappointment. I’m curious how you felt it was loud?… I think a precaution with super thin washy cymbals is that when you’re playing in a small room there’s still a potential for them to get loud and overtake the mix with the wash. What you gain is a whole range of expression in the lower dynamic range. You can do WAY more with them in quieter playing than you can with thicker cymbals. I wouldn’t say there’s a big volume difference in the “light” vs. “medium rides - it’s more just about the wash - the light has more wash and it fills out a lot quicker than the medium
Hey! This video was before they released the two different versions of the jazz ride but the weight on this one puts it pretty close to the current Jazz medium (which is still VERY light all things considered... the actual “jazz light” is just crazy light, almost crash weight).
Ryan Woods this is equal to the current “Jazz medium” that they offer. It’s still VERY thin for a 24” at 2812g. The “Jazz lights are a close more crash like.
Super awesome video, bro! Question if you don't mind. I have my eye on the 24" Jazz ride and the only other cymbal I have (that will fit the characteristics of the that cymbal) is an 18" Meinl Vintage Sand Thin crash with a couple rivets in it. Do you feel that the size jump from 18" - 24" would create too great of a sonic gap that would need to be filled? I certainly intend on filling it eventually but I'm curious if you think I should throw in a 22" before a 24". The 22" Jazz ride is a bit bright for my taste so I'm not exactly aiming for that particular cymbal. Thanks in advance!
Vincent Gonzales thanks, man! those sand series cymbals are pretty dark too... I mean, it may sound a little weird with such a big pitch difference, but I’d still get the cymbal you want in the long run.

Excellent video. Heartbeat should have this on their site.

they did on their Facebook!
Thank you so much for the demo! Extremely helpful
I, and my friend, DustyCowdog really dig your videos. Cymbals related questions are forthcoming... 😁. Cheers and God Bless.
Very nice explanation! I look forward to the next lesson. Thanks for sharing.
i know it's a cymbal review.. but that's gotta be the best sounding kick i've ever heard. great video, brother

I never heard of these cymbals b4.I will definitely check them out.thanks.
Thanks you so much for this video man!
Loved it, bro! Great explanation!
I'm listening over good earbuds...and when the kick drum started I thought the ceiling was falling on me...with warmth and presence.
Haha, thanks dude! That 26” vintage Radio King magic 🥰

These are both very quiet cymbals compared to common cymbals like ziljian A’s. Of these two the jazz is the quietest.
