    The old version is a bit capricious on old bodies, like 5d2. My copy misses often, and not in a consistent, predictable way, but rather randomly, so adjusting is mostly useless.
    On a mirrorless camera, it's a much more stable lens. And I find the R6's stabilization quite useful down to semi-macro distances.
    However, I have used this lens very often on 5D2 as a portrait lens, and against the sun too, I like this flare.
    And this combination made many photos in motion and static, suitable for uploading to the stock, despite all the shortcomings. But here we should thank not the camera and the lens, but my and the model's patience, because we did many takes to please the god of large numbers and somehow, rather purely by chance, get photos in focus. 😁
    I didn't have 100 2.8 L, but from what I know, this is apparently a more stable lens. However, it's all the same with mirrorless cameras. If a DSLR accidentally hits an object in motion, a mirrorless camera accidentally misses. Last year I lived in a village where there were a lot of cats and taking a series of photos so focus is right in the eye of a moving cat, for the R6 and EF 100 2.8 USM macro is just another Tuesday.

    Loved the review, i was offered a 100 USM for exchange on my 70-200 f4 , with money back, i'm really tempted in doing the exchange.
    But worried I might miss my 70-200.
    Overall i use the 70-200 to shoot birds, but not that much, the 100mm seems to be more usefull to me (as i like to shoot macro too).
    The mininum focus on the 70-200 is hard on me sometimes.

      Depends. There are a lot of good adapter from canon to Sony so even when you are heavily invested in canon lenses you can still use them, for me just look at the features and go from that. But for me I’d go Sony just so I could try mirrorless lenses as well.

    This is a very poor test of sharpness. To see the difference you need to photograph the same subject then blow up the images on a computer screen. If he had done that he would have seen superiority of L version.
    And what about sharpness at 1:2 and 1:1? He does not test for sharpness at magnifications for which most photographers buy such a lens. You need to photograph something tiny with lots of minute barely visible detail and then blow up the results. No one ever does that in these lens test vids.

    • @JM-qn3tf
      @JM-qn3tf 3 года назад

      Yea he brushed past the details which is the point of this lens 🤦🏾‍♂️🤣

      Thanks. I'm using the new version on a C100 mkII as I'm basically into video. Planning to get a second camera for B-roll which is why I was aking about the 600D. I'll probably jump for the 80D to keep the same crop factor as many of my lenses are EF-S.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  5 лет назад

      Indeed c100 is perfect for videos. I switched to Sony system, and have sold all my canon gear 6 months ago. Im pretty happy with the new system.
      I own a full frame camera A7 iii and a6500 apcs camera as well. I do both videos and photography, feeling satisfied with both cams.

    Great video Oma, I was looking at the new 100mm macro for some insect work as Canon Live Chat ( bit.ly/2Y6IbTY )were saying it was probably my best bet, your video has helped decide it as well, thanks!!! Do you think for things like ants this is probably a better option than a shorter focal length (60mm?)
