    I own the RF 100mm f2.8 Macro and also the RF 85mm f1.2. Both have their use cases, I would use the 100mm for studio portraits but outdoors in natural light, the 85 1.2 is far superior and would produce stunning images. I have thought about selling the 85 1.2 but every time I see the images I take at weddings I change my mind. Owning both is probably a good idea. the 100mm is great for close up and landscape as it's nice and light and easy to pack in a bag where as the 85 1.2 is too heavy for travel. Definitely keeping both!.

    •  6 месяцев назад +1

      I also have both in EF format plus the 135mm f2.0, which I like the most of all those 3 lenses. Try yit out one day :)

    Great video on this lens! Im wondering how you went about taking self portraits on the Cannon R being that far away. EOS R doesnt seem to have an interval timer to take a burst of shots with a selftimer. How did you get around that? Or did you simply press the shutter button remotely for each shot? I have an EOS R and would really appreciate to hear your answer. Thanks!

    •  3 года назад +2

      Hi Alex, take a look here, here you learn everything about the self portraits I do. I do them with the Canon 6D II and the Eos RP, but many cameras work like your Eos R as well: www.dirkson-photography.com/the-selfmade-portrait-photography-videocourse/

    Hi, very nice portraits. I am greatly persuaded to get this lens as it is rather versatile- nice portrait perspective, macro capability, stabilization and seems to focus accurately. One question, if u can either use the 135mm f2 or this lens for a street portrait session, which one will you pick? Thanks

    •  3 года назад +2

      The 135 L is a magical lens, the images are always fascinating, no matter what you photograph. The 100 L is more versatile with IS, Macro and a bit wider, so it is easier to use and the images are also really great. If you do Outside Photoshoots and no Macro or Video, the135 L is the way to go. If you do Video or macro the 100 L will give you more moments to use it.

    • @sinthailim4848
      @sinthailim4848 3 года назад

      @ That much that I know of your proficient photography skill, it would be interesting to see u making a clip using a 50mm 1.8 lens, especially on street and portrait photography. This lens is usually good value. This clip can benefit those who cannot spend a lot on equipment, like teenagers who are starting out in photography; so maybe stick to the 1.8 version. This lens used to be bundled with film cameras in the 70s and 80s and some of the pictures of legendary photographers 2-3 generations ago were shot with just the 50mm. Thank you.

    •  2 года назад

      A real Macro lens has Macro in the title, so the Canon 100mm Macro lens is a good choice, there's also a 60mm one for especially for your camera (apsc). I would sell the camera and get a full frame camera if you want blurry background. With Macro lenses you go so close that you mostly want more sharpness and less blurry background, because so close you have so much of it. Look for "canon EF-S Macro lens" and you should find many option. One in the area of 60mm to 100mm will give you great results. Most of them are at f2.8 which is fine. You can find them also used often for roughly half the price.

    I've used this lens today on my canon 80d and tried to shoot portraits at night at f2.8. The lens struggled really hard to focus. Eventually I gave up and replaced it with the 50mm f1.8. The 50mm didn't struggle at all to focus. I was really upset having spent so much dosh on this lens

    •  3 года назад +3

      Hi Rami, the 100mm does struggle with focus when there is not much light, that's true (and also depends on the camera model), I still use it often now and it even holds up to the 85mm f1.2 L II in my opinion. The 50mm f1.8 is a great lens, I still have it and use it often, even though I got the f1.2 version as well. It doesn't always need to be expensive, the 50mm f1.8 is a great example of that.

    Hello. Nice video. What would be the ratio between Hits/Miss focus at 2.8?

    •  3 года назад +1

      The lens works really well, at f2.8 the threshold is not as dramatic as the 85mm f1.2 at f1.2, so I wouldn't really put much emphasis on AF failing, it is very reliable and f2.8 looks great and sharp.

    Do you like this 100mm better then a 35mm when shooting people

    •  3 года назад

      I don't like the Sigma Art 35mm lens as it doesn't work well on older cameras and it is long and heavy. The 100 L is great for Macro, for Video with its IS but also great for portraits. In general a 35mm f1.4 is also great, I just don't like the Sigma one even though I got really beautiful images out of it. I believe in prime lenses, no matter which one. A 24mm f1.4 is amazing, a 50mm f1.8 / f1.4 is amazing, 85mm f1.4 is amazing as well as 35 and 100.

    Which has a blurrier background 100mm 2.8 or 85mm 1.2

    •  3 года назад

      Definitely the 85 L II and the 135 L, but the 100 L is on such a level that you don't need the 85 if you have the 100 L. I got the 100 L in October last year so I used it quite often now and often bring it instead of the 85 L and the result is very satisfying that I don't miss the 85 L at all (which I still have and continue to use).

    Which is more sharper the EF100 2.8 or the EF 135 f2?

    •  3 года назад +4

      I am not a big fan of sharpness, so I don't really see a difference there. The 135mm is faster and quicker, the 100 is slower and sometimes searches for the AF more than the 135mm. Both lenses are great, the 135mm is the perfect portrait lens, the 100 gives you great portraits plus IS for Video work and Macro as well. Both will give you great results and both are rather cheap for a full frame L prime lens.

    • @TheDecapitatedPenis
      @TheDecapitatedPenis 3 года назад

      having owned both, the 100 f2.8 has more contrast wide open, but in my tests the 135 f2 resolves more detail. Stopped down the 135 f2 is sharper

  • @jn3750
    @jn3750 3 года назад

    Is it as good as 85mm 1.4 in terms of bokeh, shooting at same distance?

    •  3 года назад +3

      I only have the 85mm f1.2 and I find that the 100mm L holds up great against it. f2.8 compared to f1.2 is a huge difference on paper, but when I look at images taken with the 100 L I never feel the need for more Bokeh, it really delivers greatly. I've used the 85 L II for weddings for years and for the last 10 weddings I left that lens at home and brought the 100 L instead and I don't see a difference in the emotional quality of the images, meaning the 100 L could be used instead of the 85 L II greatly.

    • @jn3750
      @jn3750 3 года назад

      @ how do you explain that? I mean 2 stops are a big deal. If they indeed have the same quality, that would save me much money buying the 100 rf 2.8 macro

  • @jsavak99

    How are you triggering the shutter to take photos of yourself ?

    •  3 года назад

      I use a flash remote that you usually use to trigger non ttl off camera flashes. But you can use them as remote control as well. Because the Canon models have face detection, the AF is always on my face, just go to amazon, type in your camera plus remote and you will find it :)

      I actually also used the Sony a7III (you find review on my channel here) and I really enjoyed it. The 85mm L f1.2 Canon lens worked great with adapter and the IBIS and Video Quality was incredible. Now with an incredible lens choice Sony is up there high at number one probably. I love that they now have a 50mm f1.2. I am with Canon because of their increble lenses and it took Sony until recently to offer something similar in terms of f1.2 and f1.4 primes. But now they have an incredible offering both in camera bodies and in lenses. Though the bodies from any manufacturer are not as important as the lenses. As I have now all Canon primes from super wide to tele, there is no reason to switch camera brands. Take a look at my Sony A7 III Review and tell me what you think: ruclips.net/video/yx2tBMM471o/видео.html
