  • Driving the ACCUAIR Jeep Gladiator hard and fast across whoops is something that a lot of you have been wanting to see. Specifically, to help answer the question of, how does it compare to something like our Gladiator that's riding on EVO coilovers, bypass shocks (also known as double throw downs) and trailing arms. And, in this video, that's what we hope to show you.

    I agree Eddie , its not as much the air system as it is an inferior shock . A better shock with rebound control settings would go along way to settling it down a good bit on the woops. Just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

      did that once with the 2006 unlimited fully-loaded-opsonisation i don't recommend trying it, even by accidentally hitting a whoop ( passenger's got inpatient waiting to get back in to town/back to work ) to fast/hard and under 3ft-air and really 1-2ft still hurts so id pass on it thankfully i only had to clean up the picnic/soda mess ( as it slammed it against the roof/hardtop and carpet/floorboards ) and nothing else was damaged but i felt that for a weekend afterwards

    I think its a great comparison to a Mojave not your Gladiator, I know for normal people too your up grades are a lot more than the air ride........ I mean if you could do a Mojave test vs the air suspension that would be awesome.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +2

      Like I say in the video, this suspension system couldn't hold a candle to my Gladiator and I do point out that it's a fraction of the cost. But, crazy as it may be, it is something people were asking to see. I don't own a Mojave so I can't do that test but I have driven a Mojave hard and fast across the desert and can tell you that it will hold up better in the whoops. Of course, it can't carry a heavy load and still maintain it's height nor can it go higher for more clearance, lower for better fuel economy or down to the bumps to make it easier to get in and out of. Again, I don't think this ACCUAIR suspension system was made to be or even compete with even something like a Mojave but I do think it still does pretty good in a lot of conditions and can do a lot more too.

    I gotta say you're one of the more informative youtubers on here and that is very much appreciated no unnecessary babbling for 10 min just to get to the point.
    I just purchased a gladiator rubicon and was thinking about this kit but, truth be told i am not impressed...airbags have been around a long time...and airbags with damping tech have been around a while as well..why does this kit that's 7k+ not have airbags with internal damping..i guess another kit will have to do..nonetheless thank you for showing it to us!

    I’d love to see you replace those shocks with some high quality performance elite 2.5 Fox with dSC adjusters 1:35 or high end King reservoir shocks and see if it improves the ride. I don’t think the included shocks can keep up. You should be able to fit Fox 3.0 race shocks in there too.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +2

      Since it seems to have been missed, the whole point of this video was to show how the ACCUAIR system is not nor was it ever intended to be something that was made to take on whoops. It's great for just about everything else but if bombing across whoops is your thing, forget the 2.5 shocks and go right to coilovers and bypass shocks. Trust me, what you're wanting to see can't hold a candle to them.

  • @ctrl_agent_86
    @ctrl_agent_86 Год назад +1

    Sounds like you already figured it out, but yeah the front/rear damping is not balanced with the vehicle weight causing the rear to buck super bad. If you wanted to go faster, and didn't mind a slightly more rough ride, the front could get a lot more damping and you'd bottom out less while also balancing the damping with weight distribution. Otherwise, reducing damping in the rear without load would make it much more compliant and comfortable. For relatively cheap fix, maybe you could bolt on some adjustable Rancho 9000's on either the front or the back so you could adjust to additional payload. Not sure if those have quite enough damping for this application so putting them in the rear would probably be a safe bet.
    Either way, cool system for both rigs. Thanks for sharing!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +1

      Okay, I talked to ACCUAIR about this and as is the case with running bigger tires in general, you need less back spacing to clear the sway bar arms. More than 4.75 and your tires will rub them at a full turn.

It is a swiss army knife of trucks, but with a swiss army knife, I wouldn't try to knife fight with one or build a house with one. The Gladiator can do a lot of things, but does not excel at any one thing without a lot of modification. This looks like great mod for what most of us do, most of the time. LOL - glad you enjoyed it. Regarding your question, do you know how much you need to add to level your lift? As in, are you just looking for about an inch? If so, I would use spacers as they are cheap, easy to install and they'll give you exactly what you need. The problem with new springs is that they tend to yield more lift than what is advertised and you could easily over do it.

      Maybe I'm not understanding what you're seeing but to the best of my knowledge, what you're seeing on the AEV bumper is just a part of it's design, it's "look". There are tons of bumpers out there that will protect your quarter panels.

One end mounts at the standard rear bumper mount location as all bumpers. The other end mounts a little forward to the frame via a U bolt. Most bumpers provided protection by running their bumper parallel the outer rear Qtr panel but nothing I've seen directly underneath the Qtr. Rusty's has their Rear Fascia Cover Kit Part Number: RA-7788-JL that is their solution of protection. I'm hoping to find a single bumper solution other than AEV. Maybe it's best I ask, what bumper you feel provides excellent protect to that area I'm concerned about. Maybe it's the one on your JL? Hopefully that clarified better. thanks

    • @wayalife

      The bar you are referring to is meant for support, not protection of the quarter panel. It's there to help carry the weight of the tire carrier. What Rusty offers is pinch seam protection for people who want to run bumperless but even that isn't really quarter panel protection. Trust me, ANY good bumper that wraps around the corners will protect your quarter panels. I don't run a rear bumper on my JL.
