This came at the perfect time. We just bought a house and it came with a gas stove. I’m learning all the ins and outs of cooking with gas, and have been doing my best to keep it clean. Thanks for all the tips!
We moved into our new home 3 month ago. All gas appliances. Gas bill has averaged $30 per month. We SO love our gas stove! Stuff gets hot so much faster and more evenly. Cleaning is more involved than with our glass-top, so we do spray oil on the pans over the sink and remove the lid when frying stuff only while holding the pan over the sink. We've had to clean the stove once in three months.
Really would love to see a version for an electric stove. And my scrub cloths came today; I ordered last week when you introduced them. So excited to try them!
I just moved to a new house earlier this year and inherited a gas stove/oven, which is the first time I've used gas. Electric always felt easier and safer for me, and the particular unit (not something I chose) was simple. I cleaned the top and the drip trays, and I was always careful cooking in the oven so there was never a mess to clean up inside. I tried with baking soda once, and I don't think I did it right. Now I have a gas stove/oven, and it definitely feels like it requires more steps to clean. And I haven't done it myself yet. I have a cleaning service come once a month and they do it. But it took me a lot of time to get used to the gas being used for heating the oven and the gas flame on the stove (just from an anixety perspective), and with more pieces to be mindful of in cleaning, it certainly doesn't help.
How do you clean the burners when it has a heavy build-up? Like the burners become black? What should I do? Can I use oxiclean to soak? To make it a little bit whiter or to look new again? Thank you ahead for your answer.
Good video. Only tip I would add is that, as mentioned in another comment, the little white thingies aren't where the gas comes out, they are the electric igniters, and it's REALLY important to not get water or cleaning products on them. A dry toothbrush seems to be the best bet. On the cooktop itself: we moved into our house 20 years ago and it had a GE profile electric cooktop. When we redid the kitchen I originally went with a Fisher and Paykel Professional induction cooktop. After 8 months and 4 warranty repairs, the cooktop was still not right and i forced the appliance company to replace it with the comparable Wolf gas cooktop. So i've seen it all. To sum up: i enjoy cooking on the gas range more, especially for high heat work like with a wok. I also like being able to take things on and off the heat without burners constantly cutting off. My induction cooktop seemed to think it was a whole lot smarter than me. I feel more like a pro cooking on the gas. It really does make a difference. That said, cleaning gas is an absolute nightmare compared to the absolute ease of cleaning a glass electric or especially a glass induction cooktop. With induction, the cooktop itself isn't heated, the pot or pan is heated magnetically, so the only area that gets hot is directly under the pan, and that cools off very quickly. This means that spills don't cook on to the cooktop nearly as much. Plus it's one solid, flat glass surface that's super easy to get clean, no lifting up grates, removing burner caps, and never a toothbrush. So if cooking is your thing and you don't mind the extra cleanup, go with gas. If you hate cleaning, go with induction or electric. If you get induction, make sure, like really really sure, that your installer is certified and has done that particular brand before. ALL of the problems we had with our induction cooktop were because it was not installed correctly originally.
I have a gas cooktop, and I LOVE it! It cooks evenly, and reliably. A few years ago, my husband upgraded our Samsung range to an LG dual oven model. I cannot tell you how much I love cooking on gas. Now, I feel a lot more confident in cleaning my beautiful range, too. Thank you!
My gas cook top is black enamel and wish it was stainless steel but it was a gift. With grease buildup dry baking soda rubbed in those spots soaks up the grease. As you mentioned though baking soda is more time consuming to clean up. Thanks for the tips

I have a gas range (cook top and oven), our house is heated by gas as well (we live on a mountain and that's what most everyone has up here). But we also do have a large wood burning fireplace that we recently got a wood burning stove insert for as it will use less wood, and be more energy efficient than the fireplace, and in the end it will help us use less gas during the winter. We have no a/c so the summers are great in terms of energy efficiency in our home. It's always a tradeoff somehow and we just have to make the best choices we can. By the way I love my gas stove and oven. Thank you for these tips on how to clean it (mine is white enamel not stainless but I still use the same products you used here).
I've been cooking a long time and everyone who ever saw my cook tops - both glass and gas, always commented how clean they were. I'll offer my opinion and technique for both glass and gas. In addition to being a neat cook - you can' t help spatters - the key is cleaning each time you're done. Especially in the case of glass/ceramic cook tops...Clean them immediately and then after they cool, polish with a cream-based cook top cleaner. It essentially "waxes" the surface and allows for less sticking. Make the time, every time - it only takes about 5 or so minutes. Spread the cleaner - let it dry to a haze - then buff (like waxing a car). Mine always had a mirror shine with no stains, no rings and no scratches. Also...DON'T scrape your pans back and forth across the surface as you're cooking - this is a gas cooking technique but will kill a glass cook top. Lift the pan to agitate food as you're cooking. Gas stoves...you don't need to do a deep cleaning as shown in this video every time, but after cooking remove the grates as soon as they cool and clean with a spray cleaner (one of the power sprays as in the video or even glass cleaner). Then buff with a soft cloth. The key with keeping the stove tops and oven clean is to not let grease, grime, spills, sauce, etc. build up! Do some sort of cleaning every time. We just got a new gas stove and I was looking for other cleaning ideas. And this is coming from a guy (a guy who cooks and like things neat and clean but is also a union electrician - so I'm no sissy). My wife dabbles in the kitchen, but I'm the primary cook for the family. Most people who cook - both professional and non-professional will usually prefer gas stoves. It allows better heat control and technique. You can debate about the environmental concerns over wanting an induction stove - but remember - it uses electricity, which still requires fossil fuels to create! Natural gas is one of the cleaner fuels, is efficient, plentiful and less expensive than electric.
I am about to buy my first gas stove with convection oven. I’m excited for the better cooking opportunities and now I’m not so concerned about cleaning it.

I find that wiping down my gas stovetop after I cook, while it's still warm, it's just part of cleaning up the kitchen after cooking. Do the dishes, wipe down the counters and clean off the stove. I still take it apart and give it a good scrub once a month but it's much easier to do when it's well maintained. Hi We have a gas stove top in our Caravan and just returned from a month away, hence to say it is grubby. In my home l have the glass cooktop which l love. Thank you so much for this video I will get cleaning. 💜
We cover ours with oven liner. You just line it up and cut out holes where your gas comes out and voila, you just wipe them off or take it off and rinse in the sink. Everything slides right off similar to silicone.
Thank you for this good video! I started the cleaning process and quickly realized that my burners (GE stove) were fastened to the stove top by two sheet-metal screws. Also, the ignitor tip was fastened to the burner. I cleaned using a brass wire brush and got the job done.
Thank you so very much! I was just thinking about cleaning the top of my stove this morning and all of this time I didn’t realize that I had Dawn spray who would’ve thunk?! 😂As Elmer Fudd would say “You weally did the trick! It absolutely worked! Thank you so much!😊
I'll have to try some of these. I can never quite get all the build up off mine. FYI: those white deals are the igniters, gas actually comes up from the center of the burners.
We have Natural Gas and it's my favorite stove type. I had one 20 years ago that did not have sealed burners and the cleaning required after a spillover was maddening!
I have a Thermador Pro Harmony. I have sealed burners and only the star shaped burner caps come off. Luckily the burners sit up really high so I can get my whole hand under them to clean. I liked the idea of the heavy duty dish soap. I just started using that for other things and it is a really good cleaner. Although I have duel fuel I am going to try not to use the oven cleaning cycle much if at all. I understand that can be hard on the wiring and the computers that run the stove. Thanks for a good video. Wow you have a lot of parts to clean on that stove but it looks like you are able to get to everything. Not many nooks and crannies.
I'm not sure if it was intentional or just a slip of the tongue but the gas doesn't come out of those white tips that stick up. The gas comes out of the large holes coming up from the bottom in the centre of the burner caps. Those white tips are the igniters. That where the spark comes from the light the gas.
Gas Dual Fuel. Love it. This will not be our last house so I did not spring for the Wolf. Controllable burners. I hear you can get that with induction but I would have to replace much of my very nice cookware.
Hey! I just cleaned my stovetop and the scrub squares are an amazing tool and did especially well on my grates. I also have gas, Wolf, and love it but am considering induction when I move next year. I also hadn’t ever used the Powerwash version of Dawn but after you mentioned it in your live during the launch of the Scrub Squares, I went out that day. Mind blow at how effective it is also!
scrub squares are truly amazing. I purchased enough to have 1 for every days! Even cleaned my stove top. Great product. I am even considering these as my part of my Christmas gift to family members. I love cooking on gas, but baking in electric. (I have a gas oven)
Same boat here. I think an induction would be awesome! I didn’t even know about them until recently. I have gas as that’s what came with the house but if it ever dies on me… induction it is.
I have a gas cooktop, which I love, but my stove is black stainless and the finish on the stovetop scratches extremely easily from those cast iron grates.
Hi Melissa, I love I love you in your channel. I also live in Ontario right now we are getting readt to move in Jan We are moving in to a trailer in Picton has a gas stove, which I am very nervous about. Do you have a video about how to clean the oven of the gas stove
Awesome video. Have you ever put the grates into the dishwasher? I have the same stove but in slate color so the top is black. First time having gas and i love mine
I use a fiberglass gas stove top cover that goes around the burners and can be custom made for most gas top stoves. Looks nice and can be easily wiped clean. Reasonably priced . Never need to do a heavy clean. Can be found by doing a search on the Internet.
Do you have a video on how to clean a kitchen floor that has texture? Really struggling and even my steam cleaner isn't doing the job. So far only scrubbing by hand with a scrubbing brush works but it kills my shoulders and knees. Thank you
Loved this video... I have a gas oven and range, love it.. But you mentioned keeping on top of the cleaning, due to returning to a full time job after losing a family member cleaning has been placed on the back burner, excuse the pun, how would one tackle the heavy gunky cooked on build up around the burners? It is driving me crazy... Thanks!!
We have a gas smeg stove & oven but are eventually swapping out all the gas appliances in our new (to us) house. No more gas hot water, gas ducted heating or stove.
We have the same exact slide in range. We did add the optional side rails to keep debris from going between the oven and countertop; thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know about that. When cleaning I add an extra step of popping those grates and the cast iron rings in the oven at like 200F for 20 min to make sure they are dry. I've been planning to season them like you do cast iron cookware. I did consider induction but purchased gas instead because the induction can make weird high pitched noises, and we don't know that 20 years from now they will figure out that standing in front of a big magnet for an hour a day cooking causes some kind of weird health problem. With the gas you just turn on the exhaust fan and I don't know that I believe all the natural gas hype that's been all over the news recently anyway since there seems to be an agenda. Additionally, cook Helen Rennie here on RUclips has a great video on induction and she talks about additional issues such as issues matching pot size with burner size and lack of quality in current US induction products. Lastly, my now fired cleaning company scratched our range top by using SOS pads against the grain. I've been using BKF but I think the instructions say to use the liquid BKF; I'll have to try the Dawn powerwash to see which is less work. I'm considering trying something to remove the scratches; just afraid I'll find a way to screw that up to make it worse since I'm not handy!
some more notes:..had to watch simply because you have the same stove as i had in the house i just moved out of. you can spray some Easy Off on a rag and wipe the vent area to get that nasty caked on grease, and it does a good job in the ovens as well.. the "white outlets" are actually what makes the spark and lights the fire, look down the center hole of each burner(with burner removed) and you will see a small brass fitting with a hole in it. Those regulate how much gas goes into the burner. Make sure the hole is clean and clear, if not use a rachet and socket to remove. You can go to a welders supply and get a "fitting cleaner" that will have the exact size micro brush to clean it or soak it and use a tooth brush to clean it. Dont be afraid to remove the front cover and clean the cracks that are to hard to get to otherwise.
I don't own, so as a renter I have to use what I get when I move. I much prefer gas stoves however and thankfully 3 out of 4 places I've rented have/had gas stoves. My first apartment had an old electric with the round coils and I HATED that stove. When we do buy, I want to have a gas stove still.
Can you please recommend how can I remove acid stains from my steel gas cook top.I accidentally sprayed a hard cleaner and it got brow and blue stains.please help me🙏

you did a great job, as usaual. but what if I just wash the grates in the dishwasher? I always do that because I don't like cleaning them 🙄, and it works pretty well if there is no much grease in the angles.
I’ve had gas since being a homeowner. I’ve toyed with induction but the risk of scratching and the damage to the cooktop if we use our beloved cast iron is a consideration.

Thank you! We’ve had gas most places we lived and in our house now we’ve had for 3 years, it’s gas too. I never knew you can take those off so I’m excited to try. Thank you for sharing! Happy Halloween!
Just use Easy Off Oven Cleaner. If your stove top is really a mess, spray it on (turn on oven vent as this stuff needs ventilation), leave it on for 20 minutes, and wipe off the grime with paper towels (cloth towels get way to grimy). You can easily polish the surface to a shine with paper towels.

My stove in the RV is propane and hard to clean. In my house, I have an induction cooktop which I prefer. The induction is easy to use and easy to clean.
Thank, yoi for the great video! I have a Dacor Gas Cook top and absolutely love it! It has 2 huge burners in the middle for pots or I have a griddle that fits there. It also has two more sets of burners on the left and right of the giant burners. They’re a little smaller but not tiny by any means. It heats up so fast! I don’t believe that the propane is that harmful on our environment. There are other massive things that are worst so I do not worry about that. Blessings!
I use a gas cook top. If we have a gray out or no electricity, I can still cook and feed my family. I would have more shame and guilt if I had no way to feed family than using natural gas. My oven is electric so I can not bake without electricity if the power grid is down. I have had electric glass cook top and they are a dream to keep clean. I have a ex-large single basin sink which makes cleaning grates much easier and less mess when rinsing.
I just bought one of your scrub square thingys and gave one to a friend (thanks for the code by the way, it helps). I have a electric stove and I prefer gas as they can be easier to clean but, electric is okay… I guess. Oh, Melissa where do you usually get your essential oils?
I have gas and I hate cleaning it. LOL I've added this video to my "how to" for future reference. I wash our stove about every 1.5 weeks, it should be more frequent though as I cook almost every day, and I just hate doing it. But you are right, the best way to go about it is to stay on top of it or cleaning it becomes very difficult!

Got my new scrubbers. Looking forward to breaking one in.
We have Natural Gas and it's my favorite stove type. I had one 20 years ago that did not have sealed burners and the cleaning required after a spillover was maddening!
Should you season your cast iron stove grates when you finish? Is it optional? What are the benefits if you do
I have a Thermador Pro Harmony.
Just moved into a home with a gas stove. I had an induction cook top previously. I’d choose induction any day!
Gas Dual Fuel. Love it. This will not be our last house so I did not spring for the Wolf. Controllable burners. I hear you can get that with induction but I would have to replace much of my very nice cookware.
I have a gas stove top as well. After watching the video, I will clean differently! Thank you!
Love this. I have gas and I love it except for cleaning the grates. Got some tips from you though!
scrub squares are truly amazing.
How much baking soda would you recommend using? For soaking the burners that is
I have a gas cooktop, which I love, but my stove is black stainless and the finish on the stovetop scratches extremely easily from those cast iron grates.
Hi, I have a Bertazzoni gas top and electric oven as it bakes better. Is there a way to get rid of tiny rust spots?
Hi Melissa, I love I love you in your channel. I also live in Ontario right now we are getting readt to move in Jan
We are moving in to a trailer in Picton has a gas stove, which I am very nervous about. Do you have a video about how to clean the oven of the gas stove
Awesome video. Have you ever put the grates into the dishwasher? I have the same stove but in slate color so the top is black. First time having gas and i love mine
We have a gas stove that was converted to be used with propane. It looks very much like yours. I like it a lot, especially the griddle in the middle..
I use a fiberglass gas stove top cover that goes around the burners and can be custom made for most gas top stoves. Looks nice and can be easily wiped clean. Reasonably priced . Never need to do a heavy clean. Can be found by doing a search on the Internet.
All hail The Scrub!!!!! "I am continually amazed at how stuff doesn't stick to this" -My husband, the dishwasher😁
Do you have a video on how to clean a kitchen floor that has texture? Really struggling and even my steam cleaner isn't doing the job. So far only scrubbing by hand with a scrubbing brush works but it kills my shoulders and knees. Thank you
How do you clean vape residue off mirrors and windows?
Loved this video... I have a gas oven and range, love it.. But you mentioned keeping on top of the cleaning, due to returning to a full time job after losing a family member cleaning has been placed on the back burner, excuse the pun, how would one tackle the heavy gunky cooked on build up around the burners? It is driving me crazy... Thanks!!
We have a gas smeg stove & oven but are eventually swapping out all the gas appliances in our new (to us) house. No more gas hot water, gas ducted heating or stove.
I remember the videos when you would complain about your glass stove top😂😂 I’m glad u finally got the stove top u like!🙌🏻🙌🏻
It's a gas stove for me! Love it.
I always have to remove the burner dials for a soak/scrub on my gas cooktop too.
I’ve always cooked on a gas hob. Our ovens and grill are all electric, though. I find the gas easier to control than an electric hob. xxxxx
Perhaps a video on cleaning coffee pots, both drip and Keurig. Thank you!
Awesome! Can you please do a video how to clean inside the oven. Thank you 😊
I don't own, so as a renter I have to use what I get when I move. I much prefer gas stoves however and thankfully 3 out of 4 places I've rented have/had gas stoves. My first apartment had an old electric with the round coils and I HATED that stove. When we do buy, I want to have a gas stove still.
This is random, but how do you wash and or keep the rubber gloves cleaned. First time wearer and I got grossed out but leaving them all wet
Is there a way to remove rust spots from the grates?
Can you please recommend how can I remove acid stains from my steel gas cook top.I accidentally sprayed a hard cleaner and it got brow and blue stains.please help me🙏
Can you do a video on deep cleaning cords that have tile glue?
You have a BEAUTIFUL new gas stove ( new stove envy🤩🤩🤩). What about older, not as well cared for, black glass top gas stove tops? Also, I didn’t know the burners could come off ! even our “vintage 🤭”, maybe close to 20 year old GE Profile. Never occurred to me!!! Thanks there is more to ask and share, but this is enough for now. You are a Rock Star in my book!😍🤩😍🥸🥳🥳🌹🌹🌹
you did a great job, as usaual. but what if I just wash the grates in the dishwasher? I always do that because I don't like cleaning them 🙄, and it works pretty well if there is no much grease in the angles.
I’ve had gas since being a homeowner. I’ve toyed with induction but the risk of scratching and the damage to the cooktop if we use our beloved cast iron is a consideration.
What brand is the easiest to clean
I have the same stove as you. Since I’ve learned more about the gas released I also would prefer something else.
I am about to change my gas stove (circa 2005)... Any recommendations? TYSM!!!
What's the name of the soap spray??
Another very good, helpful, practical cleaning instructional video.
Thanks Mrs Melissa (Chad's last name).
I am father amazed that you haven't seem to age a day in your videos which go back ~ 14 years.
What are some of your beauty secrets?
Did your daughter inherit some of mom's beauty and personality?

Hello! I have a propane gas cooktop and love it! I’ve had electric and didn’t like it at all.
This a great video. First ever video I am watching from you. I subscribed. I will share the video too.
Good morning Melissa. Once again, another excellent video with superb production values - motivating and inspiring. Your cleaning and organizational skills are superlative. TYFS and have a wonderful weekend - but of course, don't forget to take some time for yourself. 😉😉🌼🌹🌹
Thank you! We’ve had gas most places we lived and in our house now we’ve had for 3 years, it’s gas too. I never knew you can take those off so I’m excited to try. Thank you for sharing! Happy Halloween!
Not all burners are removable
From where u got training for cleaning and also making video
Just use Easy Off Oven Cleaner. If your stove top is really a mess, spray it on (turn on oven vent as this stuff needs ventilation), leave it on for 20 minutes, and wipe off the grime with paper towels (cloth towels get way to grimy). You can easily polish the surface to a shine with paper towels.
Induction It cooks low and slow but also hot and fast. Has not so good at low heat. I like making my own stock so cooking at low heat is a must. You can get works that work on induction and it will do for me
Got my Maker's Mop bundle a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it-- it's a total game changer!!! 😃 But may I ask, where did you get that shirt?! Odd Q, I know lol, but I adore script on clothing and must have that shirt now!! 😉 Thank you!!
My stove in the RV is propane and hard to clean. In my house, I have an induction cooktop which I prefer. The induction is easy to use and easy to clean.
We have the exact same stove thank goodness haha thanks for video!
Blessings!
how about the back vent?
I love all your products and your video’s.
I think I ruined my gaz stove extérieur it is dull instead of shining? It has dull clouds or spots?
I’ve always had a gas cooktop and love it! I’m definitely going to try your technique to clean. Thanks!
This is going to help me a lot. Great video as always 😇👍
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. ❣️ 🤗
You are so welcome
