My grandmother tought me how to thread a sewing machine when I was a kid I used to sew all the time now I'm 44 years old and I completely forgot this is a great tutorial to get me back sewing I have a brand new sewing machine in the closet I haven't used ever because I couldn't get it threaded thanks
Thank you. I spent forever trying to load my darn bobbin back into the machine before realizing I just needed help. Your short and sweet demo did the trick!
When threading a bobbin, the woman did not use the thread tensioner provided on the left side of the machine on top. Instead, she ran the thread directly to the bobbin, which can cause tangling issues sometimes. The proper way is to run the thread from the spool, around the tensioner, then to the bobbin. If the tensioner is set to the proper tension, the thread will wind on the bobbin in an even pattern and you probably will not have to guide the thread with your fingers to fill the bobbin evenly. Most importantly, the chances of tangling the thread as it comes off the bobbin while you sew are reduced.
Thanks for sharing this clear guidance--you helped us sort out the myths of all the thread connections. Many thanks again and please do come up with many such hints.
Lol me and my brother have been wanting to try some things for sooooo long and my mom didn't have time to show us so here we are on RUclips. This tutorial is awesome, thanks so much! Also great camera work it really helped make everything clear
Great video for beginners... trying to find something for a friend to watch & help her with her 1st sewing machine... but the only 1 labelled for beginners on you tube was just some one flexing with a machine no beginner would ever buy!
I take a clothing class and the teacher did a very poor job of explaining and everyone in my class seemed to learn it except me haha so now when I go back Monday I will actually know how to work my machine :)
Thanks for putting this up. It just so happens that the ancient White 477 machine uses the same kind of oscillating sewing hook motion and bobbin case/carrier, only the carrier/bobbin is perpendicular to the Baby Lock bobbin arrangement. (as an aside, Kenmore is set up similarly to your Baby Lock BL9 . Baby Lock provides an online maintenance manual that lists all critical setup distances and timings.) So by watching your video, plus one other, a Kenmore, I was able to see what was out of time on the 477, and set it up accordingly... and now it works correctly.
thank you for your help i was able to finish my clothes for alteration today, i have no knowledge wt sewing but i was able to do the trouble shoot wt threading bec of this vid. Thanks heaps
I definitely landed myself in hot waters here being bored and inquisitive today. Who knew you needed to go through a maze before I can start destroying all types of fabrics trying to make something with my noncreative, impatient, just get to the good stuff attitude. A good post, added a like to it. ( now make me a backpack with your machine, hehehehe )
honey, the lil small wheel towards the front on the top of your machine, if you put the thread around that and THEN back to the bobbin when threading the bobbin, it judges the tension and automatically allows the thread to go up and down evenly on your bobbin, without needing to use your finger at all
I bought a small 'second hand' machine, and the thread keeps breaking? Might be the tension doesn't adjust? Also there isn't a bobbin cover, the bobbin just drops in...or is it missing? Does the thread direction matter clockwise or counter? Is it me or is it hopelessly broken?
I know this video is old but I’m at a bit of a loss. I have the newer version of this machine and even when I thread everything right the top threads always and up getting caught in the hookrace. I’ve adjusted the bobbin tension and the top thread tension but no luck. The company I bought it from aren’t helping either. Any ideas?
To correction things. 1. Spooling your bobbing. It got a tightener it is the little black nob at the first eye when you thread your machine. Pull the thread towards you, when you come to the black nob go around it, and back to the bobbing. YES the tread CROSSES IT SELF on the nob. that's the point self tightening. 2. You used the "selftighting nob for spooling" in your main threading of the machine. It is NOT part of main treading. See above in number 1. All this is according to my manuale for the sewing machine. Best Regards.
Please help! I’m confused and new to sewing, my sewing machine isn’t doing anything when I press the foot petal. The bobbin winder is spinning though, help me!
Three funny things in this video: 1) thread should, I think, go from inside bobbin to out, then trimmed at the end (not from out to in; 2) the bobbin winding should go around the tension button at the other end of the machine; and 3) Why not release the clutch so the needle doesn't go up and down?
You ROCK!! Seriously! I watched so many and they didn't explain as well as you did! Thank You! You made each step simple and understandable!!

How about more detailed instructions, please. I just broke the sewing needle. How do you get the bobbin thread to come from the bottom?
Thank you so much, my Singer did not give clear directions in the manual.
