This is acually way more complicated than ide thought. I was already intimidated and nervous..this just made me know my fear is totally a valid feeling cus this is not easy and I am not understanding it at all. Realistically you just need to have someone with you helping step by step and guide you along each step. Being that every sewing machine is different, this video is only going to kind of help someone who has the exact same sewing machine as her, otherwise it is pointless because you'd need totally different instructions for each step your specific sewing machine will require. I am just kicking myself for not learning to sew from my Mom while growing up watching her sew every single day and night of my childhood or really everyday i was ever with her or at her home over the last 40 years. Knowing how to sew on a sewing machine, i personally feel is one of the most valuable things one can should learn in your life. I really regret not sitting with my Mom and getting the hands on experience with her by my side when she could still sew. I think both she and myself were just worried ide mess up her sewing machine at that time. When I was a kid, we depended on her sewing and her sewing machine for dang near all our clothes and clothing adjustments or repairs, all our blankets quilts pillow cases, heck even my bathing suit shed made adorable matching bathing suits for my best friend and I for our swimming lessons we took together when we were 6yrs old, one of my absolute best memory ever. But since we didn't have a lot of money growing up and she was a single Mom trying to raise us 5 kids on her own, that sewing machine she did have was all she had and she wouldn't of been able to afford taking it in for any repairs if something did break on it if I did try learning on her sewing machine...I remember though when she met my step dad how happy she was, how happy my Dad was to buy her multiple sewing machines...thats when I should of said "hey teach me to sew Mom." But I think I was pre adolescents and in that, "every Moms most dreaded time of theyre kids life" stage where I was beginning to think of my Mom as Not cool anymore and i wanted to be doing my own independent things and more just with friends. I think if I was my Mom ide of made it so learning to sew was just a mandatory thing, kind of like a chore or a class that my kids had to dedicate like an hour a day and not make it an option to not learn and practice with me. Like learning to tie your shoes thing, ya just have to eventually learn to do it.
😢 I have sewn before but my thread got tangled and I can’t figure out what is wrong with the bobbin (front loader)… plus my manual is not with the machine cuz my husband put it in storage and mixed everything up lol… ughhh
I'm trying to learn this on my own. Mt grandma gave me a brand new machine that has been sitting in her basement for a few years. Wish me luck. I'd like to make her something soon
Think about it, isn't that the truth with a lot of tutorial videos? These videos themselves are edited, so we're doing it in real time. Of course we have to keep pausing, and that's okay! I do the same thing with drawing tutorials, makeup, etc. It's fine to go at your own pace, don't let a video rush you! You can do this!! I believe in you little sewing fairy!
Thank you! I just got a new Brother machine, but the only machine I’ve EVER seen on was my grandmother’s 1951 singer! I have no idea how to operate this fancy thing! 😆
I have an old Singer machine too (1950's) When I took the new Brother SE600 out of the box I knew the owner's manual is really a necessity...lol I am still looking for parts for the old Singer.
She’s going too fast for “beginners” .... like really.. you saying how “simple” it is and this is my first time EVER using freakin sewing 🧵 machine!!!!
Yeah, it was pretty fast. That said, I don't think going slower would have helped me any. If anything it probably would have made it harder to find the information I need once I get lost in the process. I mean, all of the information seems to be there. It's just a matter of pausing at certain points where you/I get lost in the process.
Yes, the procedures should all be the same! If you would like access to a threading diagram, you can check out the manual for this machine here: support.brother.com/g/b/manualtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hf_ce1100eus
This has only made me even more intimidated and nervous to try doing this for my first time. I just really really wish ide paid more attention to my Mom everyday ide seen her sewing and quilting...she's now in a nursing home and isn't able to use her hands the same way to be able to sew. But I can't bring myself to get rid of or sell her sewing machines or serger...I know they're worth a ton I remember my Dad buying them for her and it being like a, well we can either remodel the bathroom or kitchen or get the server, of course my parents being artist minds and not too concerned with the appearance of our home, they chose the serger, lol. But I know it was worth it really, my mom sewed everything, from shirts of my Dads to pants, skirts coveralls jumpers even socks, my bathing suits, so cool cus my best friend and I always got to have matching clothes my Mom would make us and we'd get to go pick out what fabrics we'd want, every single blanket on all our family's and friends beds are her quilts she'd sewn, all our kids baby blankets she'd made, like seriously everything we had my Mom made, pretty cool. Granted I didn't understand the level of talent my Mother had for doing this my whole life but I've definitely grown to see and learn how absolutely invaluable her sewing truly was for our family....just one of her quilts would sometimes take her a year to finish, some of her really intricate ones ide seen her work on for many years...I'm now left with the responsibility of going through hundreds of her quilts trying to figure out what to do with them because I personally don't have the space to keep them all, im trying to figure out what the safest best way is to at least store them until my siblings and I have the time to sit down and go through everything, and learned really quick Quilts are extremely high maintenance when it comes to safely storing them long term and in a matter that will not damage them in any way...even just folding them is bad for a quilt, can't air tight seal them either...who would of know hu..blabbering here. Ide just hoped to find a video that'd help me learn to utilize these hugh quality expensive sewing machines I have now.
If this is a stupid question I’m sorry lol. But do you cut the spindles tip off? Because mine has a weird top and won’t fit but yours doesn’t have a tip and slides in perfectly.
This was the most helpful beginners guide but I’m still stuck on the last step when you put the thread behind the the little piece at the bottom 😢😩 I have a brother CE1150 so it looks a little different
Dear Angela I have a 22 year old flat bed sewing machine that has never been use not even once, I bought it brand new back then, am trying to see if I can learn how to use it but there's some instructions that I don't understand, I been looking for videos for this particular brand ( SEAMMASTER ) but so far no luck.😩
That's a good question. After Angela drops the bobbin in and wraps the thread around to the small blade that cuts off the excess thread, the bobbin thread sits under the throat plate until the needle takes the first stitch, then the needle thread will bring the bobbin thread up to the top of the throat plate.
Hello, It is actually called a presser foot. A presser foot is an attachment used with sewing machines to hold fabric flat as it is fed through the machine and stitched. Thanks!
Ok so when she was like, "now put the thread through the thingy holder..." WHY DO I NOT HAVE LIKE ANY OF THIS!!! 😭😭😭😭I checked and I did NOT loose anything!!!! 🤨🤨🤦♀️🤦♀️💀💀
So I did everything the good way but still the bottom is raffled. I did the tension on both the bobbin and upper threading good so. What am I doing wrong? ;-; (also I have a pfaff 1019)
I tried but for some reason my bottom thread is sewing all weird. It's gathering up in bunches on the bottom but it looks perfectly fine on top. Can anyone help me please? This is my first sewing machine and I'm really upset
As one of the people not distracted by her beauty, I noticed she left out something important that was in the other two videos on this subject. How to start the loop from the bobbin that catches the threaded needle.
I mena talk about completely hard and confusing. 'Wind it here, then wrap around there, pull the thingy, then loop in here, over again and wrap and hold, pull and lift and lift and fold'...'count to ten, finger snap, shimmy flip kick and wave'🖐🏾
I'm new to this but I think it depends on how often you use the needle and the material you are using. I know she briefly mentions in the video that you should change it out when you notice it skipping stitches. She said "often" though. I suspect her use of the machine is probably a tad more than my own though. For her often probably means weekly... possibly even daily... I have no idea. For me it will probably be yearly...lol.
Put the video on lower speed (click on the three dots on the right corner and select "playback speed", try it on 0.75x if not go to the next one)or/and pause video.

You're welcome!
Don't rewind the bobbin if it's not sewing right. Adjust your tension!
I’m doing textiles in school and I hate it but this helps allot thanks!

Im a kid, and this is so helpful bc I LOVE TO SEW!!! Tysm!!
I wouldn’t use a fancy one that skips all the hard parts for a video for beginners
At 2.32 ish, when you’re putting the bobbin in and threading it through, where does the thread go???
That's a good question. After Angela drops the bobbin in and wraps the thread around to the small blade that cuts off the excess thread, the bobbin thread sits under the throat plate until the needle takes the first stitch, then the needle thread will bring the bobbin thread up to the top of the throat plate.
OMG, I have a degree in biochemistry and can do calculus, but no matter how hard I try I CANNOT DO THIS! 🤯
I agree, and I'm an Engineer 😂. its dizzying how many places, clips and tuns the thead 🧵needs to go through for it to work 😅

But what do you do with the tail that is what I wanna know

I’m so confused. I have an old Kenmore sewing machine and I have no idea what I’m doing.
Waits what’s the point of the bobbin ?
I have the same machine and my bobbin won't wind let alone turn.
What’s the presser flip?
Hello,
It is actually called a presser foot. A presser foot is an attachment used with sewing machines to hold fabric flat as it is fed through the machine and stitched.
Thanks!
