See you in 3 years when Highserk reaches a whole 25 chapters!!! I've been reading the web novel, but it's hard to find translations. The story gets very good, especially the Dungeon arc.
1:27 As a longtime reader of Nihei (Blame!, Abara, Biomega, and some of Knights of Sidonia), its kind of funny seeing someone say Tower Dungeon’s style is unpolished lol. I gotta read more of it. Nihei doing dark fantasy is something I never knew I wanted. 9:38 CLAYMORE MENTIONED LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO!!! This one is great from beginning to end. The mangaka behind it finished another fantasy series a couple of years ago called Ariadne and the Blue Sky AND just released a new fantasy one shot. Can’t speak to the story quality of the other two, but the art is superb in both
I’m gonna def buy some some these! Hoping they have English releases! But I need to finish buying the big Blame! Books before I start another series…I am halfway thru. Thanks for the great video!!
I am glad you enjoyed the video! Unfortunately, several of the manga do not have physical copies in English. The newer manga in this video (except for Wizard and Red Pilgrim) are most likely going to have physical releases in the future considering their rising popularity!
Hello, thank you for mentions of the "unknown"/starting mangas. I'm excited to read all you mentions here. Also I thing you did not sell the Claymore, haha. I thing you forgot to show the monster design in Claymore becomes "crazy alien-eldrich-body-horrorish" once reader gets deeper into the said world. Still, I like the list is short (not overwhelming). Good video :)
Fun fact, you used imagens from the publisher where I work. The autor came to Brazil, he's a very nice guy. I worked on BLAME and Sidonya, both great mangas, sadly we can't get this title to be published here.
Good manga recommendations but your video is not standing because of the info I believe like its written name and how many chapters it has and the section between manga so people don’t watch till end or drop half way but good content and you earn respect brother
This, I watched the whole thing, but I would have gotten more out of it with chapter count and status of the manga towards the beginning of each with the name, as I looked up each one to check as they came up.
Tower dungeon is great, I've been following Nihei's works for almost 20 years at this point, Blame! is my top 5 manga and top 1 sci-fi work, I read it like once a year
Discovered Tower Dungeon earlier this year and was instantly captivated. With chapters being either published or translated slowly (about every month or so, give or take) I am itching for more of this specific niche, which is essentially a dungeon crawler manga, and not one of those power fantasy ones like you usually see in Manwha (Solo Leveling ect.). If anyone could recommend similar manga or maybe even games it'd be much appreciated, cuz I'm having a hard time scratching that itch. (inb4 dungeon meshi, alredy read it and love it c: )
Quite a few titles here i never heard about and need to check out. Damn shame to hear some of them or on pause and Wizard and Pilgrim been forced to end. That one especially looks especially great, i hate it when publishers make demands on the story, essentially interfering with the titles.
3:17 The corpse tree from Berserk??? 👀 8:07 Ohhhh! I like the animalistic vamp design! 8:49 WHALE MONSTER YASSSS!!! 9:27 CLAYMOOOOOOREEEEEE!!!! I aspire to achieve Berserk's level of detail in it's art
i was a nihei's fanboy from hell, i have to say im stop following his works since knights of sidonia, i liked apozims but some how the art i managed to see online didnt looked like his previous works (i dont know if physical books looks better). i said i was fan from hell but i didnt knew a thing about this comic at all. i just opened this video cause i see the preview and i thought "that art looks a little bit like nihei's artwork".
It's such a shjame there's something in Centuria that just doesn't appeal to me, I'm not entirely sure what it is, but from the very first chapter there was something offputting about the main character, I like the monster design is great, what a shame I don't like the human designs
As someone following most of these I just want to say one thing… newest chapter of Highserk GOES HARD. SPOILERS I’m only putting that here because I do want to take a moment to talk about it. While it’s not as savvy in its world building it really is driven by its characters. And while not most of them are _too_ memorable, it’s enough to leave an impression of following war buddies, even better done than 86 in my opinion. But the two newest chapter forces us AND the characters to swallow the bitter pill of war. The hero who believed he was fighting evil and going to live a life of adventure with his friends? Gets drafted to fight against Walm believing fighting an “evil empire” is what a hero would do, only to realize he’s the exact same as Walm himself, a pawn utilized for war when necessary, and just another useful killer. Even though Highserk is a brutal nation, it doesn’t mean they alone are capable of cruelty as the hero works with an alliance of kingdoms that practices gouging out the eyes of captured prisoners because they believe if they die without their eyes they’re doomed to wander in darkness for eternity. BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE. Walm’s berserk rampage being the only known survivor is just the right amount of meaningful vengeance a person can ask for without it coming off as just another edgy character. He understands his hypocrisy of weak minded soldiers not belonging on the battlefield, but what sets him over the edge isn’t their death, it’s that their eyes were gouged out. He goes on a rampage hoping the flames he conjures and the bodies that burn will do so bright enough to guide his comrades to the afterlife. And when he encounters the princess he decided to spare in the past as a means to rid himself of some of his guilt… the girl is confused, she wants to hate Highserk but a soldier spared them out of kindness, and she remembers his polite and gentle smile as someone who only fights because he’s ordered too. She’s forced to see this man who helped her swallowed by fury, the smile that saved her and spared her gone, burnt to ash, all to see how she is no better than whom she hated as she robbed her own hope from their happiness and sanity as he now fights in absolute anger, and the final dagger to dig into her is Walm angrily regretting his choice of saving her with a face contorted by pure rage. The princess, who wanted to escape war, thought she could keep her hands clean if others fought on her behalf and that her “suffering” gave her the right to be liberated from the horrors of war, only to find that attitude did nothing but draw her into it. Even her savior, the one good thing about her enemy she saw and made her doubt, she destroyed, giving him a reason to hate her and be her enemy. The one person she couldn’t see as an enemy, marred and corrupted by her monstrous innocence. One of the knights fighting Walm even realizes that he’s there to avenge his comrades and tries to convince him to surrender because fighting would be pointless as he’s the last soldier alive in his squad, only to realize that proclamation was a dumb idea as that means Walm no longer has to worry about his power and can unleash it to his hearts content. His rampage being caused by the fact that they didn’t even take any prisoners, every one they caught they tortured for fun and killed. They indulged in war for glory, only to realize they got drunk on it cheap booze. Everyone is forced to accept that their actions aren’t just, none of them are innocent, they’re all killers. It just managed to convey the *_perfect_* amount of rampage and comeuppance without being an edgy tantrum. I hope Noor managed to survive at least, and that the hero gets his comeuppance too. He fights for the side that gouges prisoners’ eyes out so they can’t even find their way into the afterlife… a lot of people don’t even get to find peace in the afterlife because he wanted to play “hero”.
Tower Dungeon, Centuria, and Highserk Senki are incredible stories.

I read the new one shot the other day, I thought it was a bit lore heavy but overall pretty good!
Its actually big, but story still has to be unraveled, early moments. totally reccomendable
Tower Dungeon is great ty from introducing me to it.
How I'm happy to see a video recommending What do you wish with these murky eyes (Record of Heiser War). Also it's back, hiatus is over after a year!
I’m gonna def buy some some these! Hoping they have English releases!

Interesting picks never heard of these, looks really cool. Might check out
Thanks dude! I been looking for the name of that second manga for now lol
Happy I could help!
Yo Arms Pedaler! I thought I was the only one who knew about it. Cool seeing it recommended, haven't finished it but the world is really interesting

This is a good one, I'd also recommend MAD and Aposimz it's another Nihei
I love MAD, I wish I had an excuse to talk about it!
Dark fantasy is my favorite genre in fiction,I love that sense of impending doom and unknown that it has,it keeps the readers on edge
Very good recomendations. Got a lot of new stuff to read now.
Also Klonoa music!
kazuhiro fujita also balances dark themes and shonen visuals. check karakuri circus, souboutei kowasu beshi and moonlight act
even the shonen dominant Ushio to Tora also has that
also check Children of The Whale
"... heavy use of darker colors..."
Shows black-and-white image.
Peak content.

Great job man
Oh hey I stumbled across Tower Dungeon on my own; good series.
"Dark reality" theme from King's Field 4 in the background. No one asked but I leave this if anyone is interested.
King's Field 4 is an amazing game!
Centuria author Kuramori Tohru’s name literally means “Penetrate the Dark Forest” - could be a pen name!
on that Centuria story
teeechnically there were TWO survivors on that boat. But I understand, baby killing wouldn't have won the story any favors. lol

I love your vids!!!
Claymore mentioned.
3:44 bruv, the panel is Lucerne Switzerland ahahah
Guts and Caska had another child in a different world and this manga is that child
nice video
Not manga, but I highly recommend Slaine if you're looking for dark fantasy
im likin the thumbnail
High fantasy: the gods are good guys
Dark fantasy: the gods are bad guys
Missing The Bugle Call from the list, it's one of the best dark fantasy out there
I read it shortly after making this video, and it is amazing. I will probably make a video about it at some point because I cannot not talk about it.

10:44 10:47 Wizard? nahhh!! That's venom's cousin probably!
On one hand I'm disappointed Berserk is not here but on the other hand I'm so interested since I only know Claymore from this list
Berserk is the last manga featured in the video. I saved it for last since it is the best one on the list.

nihei is a master of using the aberration type of monsters
Centuria and arms peddler are the only 2 i haven't read. Not sure what that says about me.
I even found a Witcher inspire manga.
well the manga all like fear and hunger.
i want to read all of them

Are you reading these in Japanese? I can’t find anywhere to read Centuria right now in English.
You can read the official translation of Centuria for free on the Manga+ app.
Forgot the bugle call
I have this one on my "plan to read" I will check it out ASAP!
Kinda feels like the third manga being isekai adds nothing to it, like it would be exactly the same if it weren't.
They have to hop on the bandwagon to get more visibility and sells
where is that thumbnail art from? I only clicked on this video for the source
Centuria.

Basically its a Blame on a medieval setting, 100% into it. (and no, the style is not unpolished)
Recommending a series that is never going to finish is just dumb.
Sometimes it is about the journey, rather than the destination.
No matter how you put it, isekais are so dumb nowadays.
Considering Berserk ended when Miura died. It is nice seeing heirs of dark fantasy popping up and trying to make a claim
