Perfect instructions, thank you. My 2019 Sport had been intermittently telling me "access key battery low" for awhile, finally got off my butt to take care of it, and your video made it easy.
FYI if the fob dies, you can still start the engine by putting the fob up to the push-to-start ignition key.

Wonderful! I'm older & more than a bit techno-challenged, & this worked on my 2021 Outback. A steak knife stood in just fine for the suggested flathead screwdriver. Batteries available at any chain drug store. Only problem was that the buttons DID go flying everywhere when I took the fob apart, and it took a while to get everything fit back together correctly. So, I suggest you be extra careful during the "pop this open" phase.

Very helpful. All the hints and warnings I needed, with clear instructions. The only difficult part is the design of the fob! The buttons did in fact fall out but I put it back together. Thanks for this.
Informative video! Unfortunately, it took me about 5 more minutes to figure out where a spring and a piece of metal popped out from on my 2017 fob, but a quick zoom right after you popped it open helped me figure it out. Thanks for teaching me something new! 😃

Excellent help! Very surprising Subaru has made opening thr Key Fob so extremely difficult. The Forester car manual is extraordinarily unhelpful for changing this key battery. Maybe Subaru's motivation was to push consumers into taking fhe car to an official repair shop. While none of what you showed seems self-evident, especially because of the danger of damage, you have provided a useful alternative to funneling more money to Subaru.

The Subary owner's manual is vague about how to pry the fob apart and I couldn't get it to come apart (without apply too much force and worrying about damaging it). This video made it very clear and easy - you pry the slot in the middle, not at the top. Too bad Subaru didn't add that to the manual!

Thanks! My 2019 Forester Sport was randomly telling me the battery was low so I figured I should finally replace it before I ran into a problem somewhere. I had the same issue with my CR-V about 3 years in. I'm glad they made this stuff so you can replace the batteries at home and I appreciate the helpful video clearly showing how to open the key fob. The manual on my 2019 has the wrong instructions 🙄. It shows, in a drawing, a vinyl-taped flathead screwdriver being inserted into the same slot that the key was in. That’s per the diagram. That doesn’t work. Thx for correct instructions.
