Three years later and your video is still helping people. I am a new quilter and working in a very small space...on a 2' X 5' table (or my bed ) and this video was so very helpful. I can't thank you enough for sharing this trick with others.
Thank you so much for your video. I couldn't imaging how a POOL NOODLE could help me to quilt. It's better than the spray by a long shot, and better than kneeling on the floor to pin the layers together. Wow. Love it!!!
Started using pool noodles a couple of years ago and it changed the whole quilting experience. I bought a piece of dowel at the hardware store to extend the noodles, and I also use basting spray. Now, it takes less than 30 minutes to sandwich a quilt, and I don't end up with so many UFO's!
This video has rocked my world!!! How could I not know this technique?!?!?!? I have been quilting for 25 years and I have struggled getting all 3 layers all spread out either on the floor (knees won't do that anymore!) or trying to find a table big enough!! Now I can do this and it will be so much easier!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this!!!! This is going to change my life!!!!!
This is awesome. I have cats and this helped me to complete my quilt sandwich quickly without spending much time chasing cats or watching them watch me through the cat gate... lol. Also an awesome way to store my quilt sandwich until I complete the quilting on it! Thank you!!!
Could have fooled me too. The video is so well organized. I will be able to layer small and large queen size or twin size quilts. I am currently making 4 twin size quilts for the last of my great grandchildren. I have been dreading layering the twin quilts and baby quilts. Now I'm excited to get started.
This is a FANTASTIC idea!! I agree....no distracting music or noise, and I could hear you very clearly. Your instructions were very clear as well, and I have added your video to my very first QUILTING folder to save for later so I can see it again. I've been quilting for many years, and I have done so much of this on the floor, but it's hard to get it all smoothed out that way. So, thank you for this great idea!
So clever. Thank you. Enjoy your calm, clear presentation. Helpful suggestions about which pins and where to place them. Kind of exciting to see you unroll the separate parts and how easily the sandwich is created by this method. Awesome.
Your video is so clear with perfect visual & spoken instructions. Been hand quilting since the '60s, this 1 video has made my life so easy and effortless. Thank you
Very helpful video... right to the subject... no time wasted in the demo. Should do more. This will not only save my knees, but my sanity!! Thank you!!
I have struggled with this step of quilt making for years. Thanks to your tutorial I know I will be able to do this on my own. Thank you for showing me how.
Very nice video! You're a natural! I'm getting back into quilting after 25 years of not! I love this method! I can't tell you how many hours I spent on my hands and knees basting quilter together so I could eventually hand quilt them on my lap in a hoop!! Oh the modern conveniences we have these days!! Thanks for sharing this method again.
Hi, I took a very long break from quilting and it’s certainly changed a lot. No rotary cutters when I started in the mid 70s. My first quilts were hand pieced (no machine) and quilted in a hoop. I loved it back then, but no patience for that now. I don’t recall how I sandwiched large quilts back then, but the pool noodles are so helpful, even for little ones. Good luck.
@@peterrosenfeld3053 hey Peter, I recall how I sandwiched quilts, on my hands and knees with babies around between diapers and feedings!! Oh and the cutting, definitely with scissors.......one piece at a time!!
Thank you so much. I’m a beginner quilter and finding it fiddly to sandwich, especially with a small workspace. I don’t like laying my work on the floor. This is so clever and very neat ❣️❣️❣️
I am brand new to quilting and this is the best method I have seen. I don't have much table or floor space for the sandwiching part. This may be a game changer for me. Thank you so much!!
Thanks. One thing I should mention: leave at least 2 " extra backing and batting on all 4 sides. When you lay out the quilt top put it about an inch away from the bottom edge. Good luck. Quilting's a great hobby!
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. It was great and also love that there is no distracting music or noise in the background. You sounded like a pro. Congratulations on your first video. 😊
Thank you! I too am getting too old for floor crawling. I have a long dining table that will work swell for me. Also, I use a tacking gun with a plastic grid guide. Your video was right on. So clear and concise. I’m glad I was able to join the other quilters who commented. Thanks again.

What a great idea! I've never seen this used but I knew pool noodles were handy for things. This would be especially nice for someone with a smaller work table. Thank you for this tutorial and the great idea.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have been a piecer until now and have several small quilt to be finished. I did send out one bigger quilt to be done by a LAQ. It was expensive. This has been so helpful. Clear and very easy to follow.
I used this method on a quilt that was 78 x 98 and while the rolling and pinning went well, I ended up sending the quilt to a long-armer because I couldn't handle the bulk on my small machine. It's way easier than getting down on the floor or flaying the layers out and trying to get them centered. Good luck!
Your suggestion to use a pool noodle for making the quilt sandwich is awesome. It's light weight and rolls up reasonably small for better fit in my home sewing machine. (I usually roll my entire sandwich on one pool noodle.) Also, I agree with Irma Gonzalez's point about no distracting music in the background. I understand that noise is part of recording, but I really dislike added music for the sake of I don't know what. Background music often makes hearing the speaker much more challenging for me, so thanks for not putting it in. Hope others will follow your excellent approach. Please keep posting videos.
Brilliant and so simple and affordable. I was using wooden boards but they are not long enough and so heavy. This is such a great idea!!! THANK YOU so much for sharing.
I am sorry I didn't see this sooner. You did an excellent job of showing and explaining the process of layering. You made it look so Easy, I will definitely try this. THANK YOU AGAIN.
This was wonderful for me to see. It solved a problem I have been dealing with trying to get quilts basted on my own on my kitchen table. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much. This is a very handy tip. I’m a new quilter and have just finished my first quilt. It was a baby quilt but your little tip will come in handy for my next quilt. You did a wonderful job explaining the process.
I loved this! I am disabled and have a hard time getting around my fabric & table, this is going to help me so much in putting my quilts &whatnot together ! ❤❤❤❤
Great idea, thanks! Excellent job for your first video! When pinning layers together I use a regular teaspoon from my table service, slip the edge under the point of the pin as you're bringing it up thru the layers and it goes thru the layers and slides up the pin so much easier & faster. Saves your fingers too. Takes a tiny bit of practice with first few to "get in the rhythm" but worth it.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your time on this matter because I almost decided not to make a quilt for my mom. But you have given me the courage to attempt it. how so appreciate all the other little advice that I found in your video especially the one that I've heard about not getting the pins from the dollar store thank you again

First of all, congratulations on your first video Great job! You have saved my back, my knees, and whatever parts of my 70 year old body that does not want to crawl around the floor making quilt sandwiches! I cannot thank you enough for this fabulous procedure which I plan on using quite a bit Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
As a beginner quilter I'm glad I came across your video early. Have had trouble with limited space getting this right so it will how I do my next project. Thanks so much.
I loved your video. I am now in a wheelchair and unable to get down on the floor to sandwich a quilt any longer. My daughter just bought me a rolling cutting table recently and this method will work perfectly in the limited space I have available. Thank you for sharing.
I’m doing my first quilt, started three weeks ago with hand sewing. I’m maybe four months from this stage. This was extremely helpful to a very inexperienced learner. Thank you very much
Loved your video. I have been using a similar method with lengths of 4”x4” timber. Pool noodles look much kinder, lighter and softer to work with. Never would have thought to change my method but I will be heading out to grab some today. Great first video, would not have known as it was very professional and easy to watch. 👍
What a great idea for when you're limited with space- as I bet a lot of us are, lols. I often don't even have floor space available, in our tiny tiny house. I love it! Thanks for sharing that, it was very straight forward and practical.
Thank you so very much! You solved my dilemma and made my day! I have been wrestling with this for quite awhile. You are a clear, concise, communicator. I am hoping you will continue with your instruction on quilting! Hand quilting that is.
Oh my gosh, I wish I would have seen this yesterday. It took me forever to sandwich a twin sized quilt and not to mention my back pain afterwards. This would have been so much faster and less painful on my back.. Thank you for this video. I'm going to try it on my next quilt sandwich.
What an amazingly simple idea! I have such a problem getting everything centered correctly while making "quilt sandwiches" and I've had to unpin and start over more than once over the years. I can see this technique taking a lot of frustration out of the process. Thanks for sharing!!
Absolutely brilliant! Buying noodles tomorrow to finally finish son's quilt. And about 5 other quilt tops. I HATE making a quilt sandwich! This looks to be a neat easy way! Great video!
What a great presentation! Succinct yet detailed. You’re a lovely teacher. A while ago I saw a video about using pool noodles to create a quilt sandwich but the person rambled so and the teaching was a bit confusing. Congratulations on your first video!
I like this method. I don’t have the floor space to layer a quilt of any size plus my back no longer goes for getting up and down off of the floor. Great to do on a table. I’m saving your video. Thank you for sharing this skill.
Thank you for sharing - definitely a very easy way to control the layers - easier than trying to keep the quilt from slipping off the table - used to tack on the floor as well but then the family tend to walk across the quilt, we’ve come a long way since the days of the large quilting frames taking up most of our living room - happy quilting 🌟
Thank you - you are a wonderful instructor. Your directions are clear and concise. I know I'll be watching this one again. I can't get down on the floor and was getting concerned about how I was going to be able to sandwich my quilt at home. So, thank you. (Now if you'd just move in next door or something so I could run over and ask you questions.......) I also lover your radios.
Hi, Beverly. Thanks. I just pinned a 40 x 60 quilt and my back STILL hurt, but not my knees! Ask me questions anytime. My husband is a radio buff. Have a nice day.
I was amazed how this method works. Thank you for sharing. You first video was great. I learned a lot and you were very through! I will try this method soon.
Thank you so very much for these instructions they are a great idea and simplifies the process nicely. I hope to see more information later I am a very beginner and do appreciate all the advice from experts like you. Thank you again.
Great first video! I saw it yesterday and I took my unfinished quilt with my newly purchased three noodles to my church today where I had to oversee our blood drive. I think it took me about 30 minutes to roll my three pieces onto the noodles and then pin the layers (it was only an eight foot table runner). It was so easy and the layers are perfect. I’ve made many quilt tops in the past 15 years but have always had them professionally quilted. This is the first one that I plan to quilt myself-so exciting!!
Thank you for doing this tutorial. You did a great job for your first one! I've been curious about how to use the noodles to do this. I've been quilting 28 years and I love learning all the new little time savers! 👍 great job!
Just a note: Safty pinning goes quicker with the Quickclip gadget that helps you flip them closed. This is a super neat technique - I'm getting too old to crawl on the floor, and the cats are not helpful! Thanks so much.
Hi, Paula. A few people have mentioned the Kwik Klip or a teaspoon to help with pinning. One person suggested putting all the pins in (or a bunch of them) then going back and closing them all. I tried that and it was really fast. Thanks
This is brilliant! Gotta love pool noodles. Thank you for sharing! Added note...if you remove the selvage from the backing fabric, you won’t have any wrinkles.
This was a really neat video! I will have to try. Currently I go over to a club that I’m a member of, and climb all over the floor. This looks much easier. Thanks for sharing it!
I’m impressed with your technique. Very well done. Concise and clear. I will definitely use this in the future for my quilt sandwiches. I already use swim noodles for storing large pieces of fabric. Thank you.
For your first Video you did a wonderful job. Was really helpful and nicely done. Will definitely be going to the dollar store for Noodles while they still have them.
I just bought my pool noodles today. My knees are getting too old to crawl on the floor, not to mention getting up off floor lol. I’m doing mostly small donation quilts now, so this should be just what I need !! Thanks for the inspiration!!

Who knew?? That's awesome, thank you for sharing this, no more being on the floor, and hurting back and knees. God bless you, and your first video was great!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to put together this video. I live in a very small house so seeing a way to sandwich a quilt in a very small space is a life saver!
This method is totally new to me. Your video was super helpful. You filmed in a way that was t gave good visibility of what you were doing, you speak clearly and in a friendly encouraging way, but without going off on tangents and confusing us. Well Done Ma'am !
Thank you Sabina, for showing us how to use pool noodles to baste a quilt. I have two quilts to be sandwiched, basted and quilted and I will try it this way. Very enjoyable, and to the point. Hope you make more tutorials.
I have made a few small quilts and always had a difficult time getting them together, so I sent my big project, a queen size bed quilt, to have it sandwiched and quilted for me. Cha-$$$-Ching!!!! That turned me off to quilting. But now my daughter sent me a bunch of t-shirts, from when her now adult kids were in little league, and asked me to make her a memory quilt. How could I say no?? Your video, the way you explained and demonstrated your technique with the pool noodles looks like it is going to take a lot of stress and be pretty easy to sandwich this quilt and make my whole process much simpler. THANK YOU for your time in making this video and showing us your process.
Hi, Cherrell - making the sandwich this way is super easy, however, working with a large quilt is not. I’m not a free-motion quilter, just simple in-the-ditch or straight lines, but even these simple lines are way too difficult for me on anything larger than say 60 x 40. So while I’m glad this trick may solve your lay out and sandwich making, I can’t say that managing such bulk will be any easier when it comes time to quilting. Wishing you luck with ALL your projects. Sabina
I hate this part of quilting so much! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I tried it and it made the whole experience much more tolerable! Great video!
Love this idea. I have to have someone layer for me because of knee and back. With the noodles, I could do it myself and probably a lot straighter. thank you.
Thanks so much for showing us this. I can only hope that I'll be able to remember this down the road if I ever get a quilt top down and ready to quit. I love it.
This will keep me off the floor. The older you get the harder it is to get down and work on the floor. As a matter of fact I can barely get down long enough to pick something up. I can't say thank you enough.

I loved your video. I am now in a wheelchair and unable to get down on the floor to sandwich a quilt any longer. My daughter just bought me a rolling cutting table recently and this method will work perfectly in the limited space I have available. Thank you for sharing.
Nice, calm, quiet AND educational. Good job.
Thank you for presenting this demonstration in a professional manner. You were well organized, clear and precise. Congratulations on a job well done.
thanks and good luck
What a great tip. I don't like making the quilt sandwich but this system makes it much more manageable. Thanks for the tutorial!!
Yes it is very helpful and looks so much easier than doing it on a floor. You have great suggestions too.
Thank you so very much! You solved my dilemma and made my day! I have been wrestling with this for quite awhile. You are a clear, concise, communicator. I am hoping you will continue with your instruction on quilting! Hand quilting that is.
Thank you for the video with pool noodles to help with making the quilt sandwich. Very helpful 😀
Oh my gosh, I wish I would have seen this yesterday. It took me forever to sandwich a twin sized quilt and not to mention my back pain afterwards. This would have been so much faster and less painful on my back.. Thank you for this video. I'm going to try it on my next quilt sandwich.
Very helpful video. I hope you make more videos. Very good teacher. Thanks!
What an amazingly simple idea! I have such a problem getting everything centered correctly while making "quilt sandwiches" and I've had to unpin and start over more than once over the years. I can see this technique taking a lot of frustration out of the process. Thanks for sharing!!
Very helpful. Great tip using placemat also. TFS
Thanks. Stay well.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing idea with us. This will change my life. Riding the sandwich now will be pleasurable. Kisses.
Thank you for sharing - definitely a very easy way to control the layers - easier than trying to keep the quilt from slipping off the table - used to tack
on the floor as well but then the family tend to walk across the quilt, we’ve come a long way since the days of the large quilting frames taking up most of our living room - happy quilting 🌟
The pool noodles look like a great way to either transport (to a class) or even store them! Your first video deserves MANY more!
I will surely try this on my next quilt. Thank you for a clear tutorial.
Very well done 👍 and amazing for your 1st video 👏thank you. best wishes Tracy 🇬🇧
Thanks
Oh yes... cats... I have 2 and they are very interested in my quilting! 😂
You can also use pipe insulation if pool noodles aren't available. Meant to say that in the video, but forgot.
I just bought my pool noodles today. My knees are getting too old to crawl on the floor, not to mention getting up off floor lol. I’m doing mostly small donation quilts now, so this should be just what I need !! Thanks for the inspiration!!
This was excellent! I loved the tutorial, and was really surprised when you said that this is your first video. Don't change your style. This is a winner!
Great video! Well explained, very clear and easy to understand. Had not seen this method of basting before, but will definitely be giving it a try. Wish I had watched this earlier, when pool noodles were easier to find in the stores! Great technique. Thanks for sharing!
Quilting for several years, cannot wait to try this!
Congrats on first one; I hope to see others. It's always great to learn from other quilters.
I’m working on another one about setting blocks on point. Thanks.
Thank you for this tutorial. It's so helpful. I hated doing quilt sandwich so will try this method.
Oh my gosh! This is such a great idea! I can't wait to use this method. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sabina, for showing us how to use pool noodles to baste a quilt. I have two quilts to be sandwiched, basted and quilted and I will try it this way. Very enjoyable, and to the point. Hope you make more tutorials.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have limited space and this will help me tremendously!
Awesome tutorial it was very helpful. Short and to the point.
Sabina
Brava!!! Thank you from.the bottom of my aching back!!! This is brillant!! Well done!!!
I hate this part of quilting so much! Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I tried it and it made the whole experience much more tolerable! Great video!
Love this idea. I have to have someone layer for me because of knee and back. With the noodles, I could do it myself and probably a lot straighter. thank you.
really interesting way of working with quilts. It's amazing how much I learn from RUclips videos even after quilting for 50+ years
Greetings from Germany and thank you for this Tip. For me it´s very usefull. For your first Video you did a wonderful job.
I love that you capitalize your nouns in English, too. 😊
