    She hit the nail right on the head. You need to really listen, get the lyrics and feel the song. It's a rollercoaster and it tells a story. Try "Fade to Black" and you'll get the same feeling. When you really listen, get the point of the song and enjoy the instumental parts, you really feel it.

    "You have to actually hear everything and feel the song." This is the perfct way to describe metal. The music IS the story, it sets the mood, it sets the scene, it helps you feel the meaning of the song. The lyrics are the frosting on top. Metal is all about immersing you in the subject of the song.

    This was recorded in 1988... still sounds killer 🔥🤘 The album is called 'And justice for all'... it was created under difficult circumstances.
    See, Metallica were involved in a tour bus crash in Sweden back in 1986. Their bassist Cliff Burton was killed (he was only 24 yrs of age) The 3 members of Metallica recruited bassist Jason Newsted to keep touring, but the trauma & loss hit them hard... they drank heavily... they gave Newsted a very hard time.
    When they wrote the album, James Hetfield (vocals & guitar) was especially angry after the loss of Burton... all his lyrics were literally, "everything sucks... everyone sucks" ... 'One' was inspired by a movie about a soldier who survives WW I, despite losing all his limbs & senses, left in a hospital...
    In another song "Dyers' eve", Hetfield unloaded on his parents for the damage done raising him in a strict Christian science household.
    Metallica did have more 'laid back' songs later... like 'The Unforgiven' ... 'Until it sleeps' ... 'The god that failed' ... 'Cure'

    I love seeing Hip hop and rap heads listening to metal or rock and understand that it's not just noise. There's emotion and performing with that equipment takes more than just lyrics over a sample. A lot of rappers use metal samples and dont even know the origin. This song and Master of puppets are similar that the tempo is part of the story. This song speeds up to represent the rage in his head but also the chaos of war. Notice the drums sound like machine guns. Master of puppets starts off heavy as the drugs call you in and then changes to mellow to represent the euphoric feeling of taking them but it all crashes down.

    What's beautiful is being able to look through a time machine and be reminded how I felt when I first heard this song. I started playing guitar because of Metallica, I got my degree in music years later, but somewhere in there I forgot what it felt like to hear this with awe for the first time and wonder to myself how it was possible to move fingers that fast.
    This song is an onion. It has many layers to it and they all taste the same. The writing, the playing, the meaning, the moments, the emotions. It's worth a hundred listens and a hundred more head bangs.

    Props to you guys for giving this a fair shake. For someone that hasn't listened to metal before, Master of Puppets was a pretty 'in your face' introduction, but you still felt there was enough there to cautiously try some more. Good choice starting with the lyric video on this one (the official music video is definitely worth a watch now that you're familiar with One and its general story).
    I'd be curious to see what you think of Master of Puppets on a re-listen, months from now, if you've stuck with this metal exploration and gotten a deeper taste for it. :) Other songs to take a listen to should include 'Fade to Black', 'Orion' (this song is an instrumental, but it takes you on a journey), 'Welcome Home (Sanitarium)'. All the songs people have mentioned (including me) are from the classic age of Metallica (first four albums).
    And, yes, as you mentioned in both of these songs, metal definitely leans into the instruments a lot. They use the instruments and the music to evoke a mood, to help tell a story, to set the feeling, the ambience, and generate emotion; they are at least as important as the vocals to the overall experience of the song, if not more so.

  • @chasferm5432
    @chasferm5432 2 года назад

    The thing about rock music that I believe most people love is it is purely driven by emotion. Emphasis on the word DRiVEN. Whatever the mood of the songwriter is trying to convey through his words is captured in its most raw form through the music. We can all agree that listening to music without lyrics can still make us feel some sort of emotion. Rock however takes that emotion expressed and drives it to its core. Some say rock or metal is nothing but noise and while that may be true for some bands, other bands such as metallica they captivate the meaning of the song and it’s reason behind it perfectly with the music alone. The lyrics are just there to point that emotion towards a certain storyline or idea. With that being said, rock nowadays is nothing compared to what is used to be. But that can be said for almost every genre now. Music is not what it once was. But thankfully good music never truly dies. Even after it’s composer is long gone. The master craft is left to be appreciated.

    Just keep doing you... Doing a great job.. Just like I noticed on SNOW reactions when you pause , you take it back a few seconds after.. That will probably be good for this type of music.. You are 100% right also. I saw one reaction where the dude had headphones on and a baby was crying loud in the background. He didn't her it until after the song and took his headphones off...
    There is more to this song if you watch the video on your own time.. It actually has clips from the movie that inspired the song.. It is from the 1971 movie "JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN",,,,
    GUNS N ROSES "NOVEMBER RAIN" would be a great rock song to react to.
    Please react to these two from SNOW THA PRODUCT in one reaction. They are very short. (1:15 and 1:30). The first one "HOLY SHIT" is young Snow 11 years ago but she was already going after people way back then.
    The second one Snow actually goes after Atlantic Records when she was still signed with them. "FLEXICUTION" (flexing/execution).. Enjoy SIR and you and your girl have a great day....

    Yeah, as a guitar player I can confirm that there is some hand fatigue playing songs like this. Hand cramping can be a problem, especially if you have to stretch for certain chords. Fortunately with metal there aren't many finger stretchers, mostly power chords and bar chords. Kirks solos can be a bit challenging but this one is a lot of tapping so it sounds harder than it actually is.

    The music video for this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. It tells the story of a ww1 vet. What happened to him in the war.remember if you watch the music video. Right at the beginning of the video. Their is a little boy that ask his dad what is democracy. The whole video is about him. Some people miss that and don’t realize that. It also uses clips from an old movie. And I believe it’s a true story. But not 100% on that one. But the video does the song more justice I believe

    "Don't tell me what to do"....they're trying to show you the best way to experience certain bands or songs. Pink Floyd especially there are a lot of effects in studio versions that you can't really hear if you have other noises in the background, or poor speakers. If you can't do videos because you have to listen for your child...then don't do videos when you have to divert attention. I get what you're saying and respect your choices but people are just trying to show you how we experienced it. A lot of the reason people watch reactions is to relive their first experience and see the joy they felt expressed with others experiencing things for the first time. Been watching a lot of your videos recently and have enjoyed them. You seem to genuinely enjoy hearing new music you've never experienced before and your girls are adorable. Y'all look like a very happy family.

    I like the fresh reactions. Metal is something you'll likely enjoy the adventure... it will not always be your cup of tea but I bet sometimes you'll get into it. Instruments are important. We love the music to drive us from the instruments and good vocals and lyrics are just the icing on the cake. The cake still needs to taste good without the icing. As to solos... when it sounds like one person is going off and "showing off" by themselves that is the solo. Usually it is higher pitched and much faster notes.

    • @Frostrazor
      @Frostrazor 2 года назад

      What Deva said. The guitar solo breaks the songs groove riff and branches off while groove continues in the background until it once again settles back in the pocket of the groove.
      Jazz music follows this same format, with the trumpet or drums or guitar going into a solo that stays within the melody and key but adds flavor and flair to the groove.

      Agree and disagree with your last statement. I think for FIRST-timers, listening to the music comes first. I've seen too many first-timers get to into what they are seeing and they end up talking over some of the best parts of the song and just completely miss it. And this video is an all-time great of course. So very easy to do with this song/video combo. I think the way to go is to do the lyric first, THEN go and watch the video so at least you've heard it all and don't miss anything. But he should DEFINITELY see it, no doubt!

    A guitar solo is like a sentence. Doesn't make sense to pause mid sentence or bar. I think it's ok to pause as long as you run it back and start from the beginning of the solo.
