Fun fact: Lucy Punch, aka Hattie, also played the stepsister in 2000's Cinderella, Into the Woods, and the Cinderella episode of Fairy Tales. Even better, it's actually not typecasting. When she was a little girl, when everyone else wanted a princess party, she asked for an ugly stepsister party. This is literally a dream come true for her.
I remember in the DVD extras they said they decided to make the world a mixture of 2000s culture with renaissance because of the low budget for costumes, but I feel like it wouldn’t be nearly as fun without that 👏🏻😂💛
"Please Danielle!" "Say it again..." "I'm sorry..." "no. the part where you said my name." "Danielle." I can't- there are no others to top Ever After imo.
ive had a rough relationship with this movie because i read the book first and LOVED it. it's so different from the movie, firstly being completely serious. at the time i wasnt happy with the shrek-ification of the story, but over the years ive realized its a good movie if you put yourself in the right headspace for something cute, campy, and over the top.
Same!!! Read the book before the movie came out, and absolutely loved it! It's such a good read, and I was completely disappointed when this movie came out. You're completely right by calling it shrekification!!! Looking back on it, it's not as bad as I remember...but I still prefer the book 😊
@@TheCrayonMaster I never read the book but I'm sympathetic considering I was obsessed with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children... I'm still irrationally angry about that movie to this day and I don't think I'll ever accept the movie.
I think it's a good bad-adaptation. Like, they didn't mostly stick to the books, they made it so incredibly different on purpose, only keeping basic premises so you can't really compare them. It's not a good adaptation that sticks very closely to the book, but a good bad-adaptation :)
The whole not telling the father makes so much more sense in the book. He's a garbage human who only cares about money. She knows he would use it against her. The book and movie are so different but both are so good. I love them both.
I love how Hugh Dancy and how literally charming his character was written & acted has everyone who watches this swooning enough to easily forget or downright never realize that Cary Elwes is in the shot with him multiple times XD He plays Edgar. Chances are, all of us here swooned when Westley stares Buttercup down as he whispers "As you wish." But Edgar is so creepy, gross, and evil as a literal tyrant that it took me so many years to recognize the guy lol! (Tho Charmont is still def a better character than Westley; I still haven't forgiven that character for that back-hand threat to Buttercup.) And oh, they probs played '70's songs cuz the y2k styles of the time leaned heavily into 1970's silhouettes and prints, tbh. Low-waisted flare pants (re-imagined bell-bottoms), Stevie Nick-style flowy long sleeves, peasant skirts, paisley print, faded floral print, etc. It was the 'retro' vibe in vogue at the time. Sort of like the 80's nostalgia you saw in modern styles everywhere at the height of Stranger Things hype and the y2k stuff you see coming back now. The directors probably thought it would be cute to have the soundtrack match. Also, if Keira Knightly is the Queen of period film; Anne Hathaway is the Queen of early 2000's fairy tale parodies lol.
Let me guess, the YT channel was called "cherri bomb" I believe, and the title was something along the lines of "Do You Remember Ella Enchanted?" Because if that's the one you're looking for it ended up becoming private.
I love Lucy Punch so much as the Step Sister. She does it again in Into the Woods, and she’s a fabulously “in” villain in Netflix’s Series of Unfortunate Events series. I think Lucy said that she always liked being the Evil Step Sister instead of Cinderella, and I can respect that.
I love the movie! I just wish they stuck closer to the book. It was meant to be a Cinderella story but the movie became less about that. The book is near and dear to my heart and I’m okay with it being different I just wish they kept that Cinderella aspect. But I LOVE the movie! It’s so fun and mystical! Awesome choice!
I forgot about this movie! It's a fun watch. Hugh Dancy was and is still a very pretty man. He stars in NBC's Hannibal series and he is still very nice to look at and a great actor. 👌
Loved this movie so much as a kid. Also, Ella breaking the curse by speaking to her reflection is not something I had ever thought of, but it makes sense now that you've pointed it out.
I haven't read the book, but I have read another book the author wrote in the same universe called Fairest, which is basically a snow white retelling that was highly enjoyable.
I loved the book so much that when there was a movie I was beyond psyched. And yes, the movie is so incredibly different, it's almost an entirely different story, but both are amazing in their own rights. Very much like Howl's Moving Castle - movie and book are so different but so good.
OMG, maybe it's because I haven't watched Ella Enchanted all the way through in a long time, and I just recently got into Downton Abbey in the last few years and hadn't seen Ella Enchanted in the meantime, but... OMG, Mr. Carson was Nish the Ogre? XDD OMG, that's hilarious! You know, for the longest time, I actually didn't realize that Cary Elwes was Prince Char's uncle, either. XD I was mindblown when I noticed in the credits, and got so mad at myself for not realizing, because I just LOVE Cary Elwes. XD Guess thast just proves how good of an actor he is, playing his role so well that I didn't even see him in it. ;w; Also, Ella's version of "Somebody to Love" was literally the first version of that song that I had ever heard, and I just fell in love with it so hard. >w< It's one of my all time favorite songs.
In the book she just flat out refuses to marry Char and that’s how she breaks her curse, instead of being ordered to murder him in the movie. The movie added the bit where she had to look into the mirror and tell herself what to do. I personally prefer the book version because her she wants to marry Char of her own volition, not because she was told to do so, so when Char says “Marry me” she just simply refuses, and that’s how the curse is broken ☺️
@vixiestarfire as someone who grew up with the film and never read the book, details like this make NO sense to me lol. How could she have this curse her whole life and randomly break it just bc of how much she didnt wanna marry him??? Like, of all the things she was asked to do THAT was the thing she wanted so little that she somehow found the strength to break the curse?? Thats so anticlimactic and so much less powerful than the movie version. & why didnt she want to marry him? In the movie its obvious that she wants to & is just trying to protect him. So what the heck was the reason in the book, if there was no danger??? Did she not love him, and then randomly started loving him after the curse was broken??? & if she liked him the whole time, how did she even explain that to him?? How awkward would that be??? Oh, i didnt want to marry you bc of this curse, but then when i said no i broke the curse, so now i wanna marry you?? I dont get it 🤣🤣
I love this movie and I'm so glad you reacted to it! I also love the book, but they are so different that I have to view them as separate entities to enjoy both fully. In my mind, they are two entirely separate stories, they just have character names and some similar plot themes in common. I would highly suggest reading the book though, since you haven't. It is so fun and I think you will enjoy it a lot!
I’m not sure the mother realized she forced her daughter to never talk about her curse. I think it might have been a careless comment made by a mother worrying about her daughter. With that type of curse, you really need to be careful how you phrase things.
I always thought the mom did it on purpose so Ella wouldn't entrust it to a friend only to get backstabbed. I mean usually people don't just tell you what to do and provide at least some sort of respect. Plus she couldn't know he'd marry a brat with two nasty daughters.
@@jos-josradvanji6203 in the book, Ella tells her friend Pamela about her curse and she takes advantage of it, forcing her to do things she doesn’t like, this angers Ella so much that she punches her and the friendship ends, and then her mother tells her not to tell anyone about her curse
Honestly this movie is a good adaptation. Yes, things are changed. Yes, they are both Cinderella tails. No, they don't tell the same story. In the book, it makes more sense when the mom orders Ella to never tell about the curse. In the book, Ella made a friend. Ella told this friend about the curse. The friend then began to take advantage of Ella, so the mom ordered her to never tell anyone else. Then later on, the mom became sick. No one ever told the father because in the book he is greedy and selfish. He would sell Ella to the highest bidder- which he nearly does! The step marriage also makes more sense in the book because you are introduced to the step family very early, then the father only marries because he has gone bankrupt and want's her money. Ella Enchanted is one of my favorite movies I love all the Characters in this movie except Hattie,Edger, the step-mother,and Edger's Snake. I think Char is really cute
This was one of my favorite disney channel films for all of the reasons you said. It is also the film where I asked myself the question, am I attracted to the character or the actor. Character, always the character. Yes, I am talking about char. I wish aridta had more screen time. The actress is a good one. Imagine her being on the journey with ella and slannen. It could be fun.
tbh, i think this is so underrated because of the backlash from the book fans. they're such completely different stories, i don't see why we can't enjoy both! (there is "different from the book", "bad", and "bad because it's different", and i feel like this got labeled the third when it was really just the first. though i get that it stings if the only adaptation for your fave book is nothing like it, and a remake isn't guaranteed to happen in your lifetime.)
I know! I always loved the scene of him taunting Ella with the knowledge of her curse, but it's significantly funnier now that I'm able to see just how much fun Cary is having as Edgar. 😆 However, his performance becomes even more amazing when you realize Ella Enchanted came out in 2004...the same year he played Dr. Lawrence Gordon in Saw. I mean damn, talk about RANGE. 👏
I read the book but it was like 4th or 6th grade (I can't remember when) but I love this movie! I love all the songs since I grew up with them (I grew up with a mix of 60s-80s with a splash of 2000s music) I can't wait for the next reaction!
Only now realizing that I've seen Prince Char in "Downton Abbey: A New Era" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic.". Or: Ella could have taken the glass slippers, and then have given them to Hattie, and then pointed and yelled, "Look! She just stole these shoes! Get her!" 18:27 I think maybe Ella only invited them to her wedding just to slap it in their faces and force them to watch as SHE got to marry Prince Char, and for once, force THEM to do something they didn't want to do. I grew up watching Anne Hathaway, one of the most recognizable actresses for me. Cause I saw her in this, "Princess Diaries," and "The Other Side of Heaven." When I saw "The Other Side of Heaven," I said, "Hey! That's Princess Mia!"
I love to hear you sing in editvision. I don't break into song as much anymore but i used to. You are the closest thing to home cooking I watch. I think it's being an hour from the Lake and less than two from Starlight that draws me in. We love us some AH since Princess diaries. The Monty Python guy Eric Idle "the narrator" may have had something to do with the music choice. I'm guessing the price was better for older music. I love that Princess Bride farmboy got to be evil this time. We saw this in theater and people came out smiling. Keep on doing that thing you do.
omg I adore this movie! my sister and I grew up watching it and I feel like no one else even knows it exists! I loved the book as a kid too, but I feel like this is a rare case where the movie is a bad adaptation but a good movie
If your looking into reacting to a new series I would recommend Good omens, Stranger things, and Umbrella Academy. They are all really good and really funny 😄

That's Princess Mia!"
i love it too. and also Stardust 2007 is underrated.
You should watch Strange Magic. It's an animated jukebox musical based on Midsummer's Night Dream. Great romance, music, and visuals.
Keep on doing that thing you do.
i know you like cartoons with deep themes and so i would like to suggest "infinity train" as a show to react to.
I don't know I think it would have been torture for the stepsisters to be forced to watch Ella get married to Char.
You do give me very anne hathaway vibes its been so long since Ive seen this but it is a childhood classic of mine.
omg I adore this movie! my sister and I grew up watching it and I feel like no one else even knows it exists! I loved the book as a kid too, but I feel like this is a rare case where the movie is a bad adaptation but a good movie
Hey idk if you is gonna see this but have ever seen a Netflix show called Voltron if not I’d love to see you react to it
in the book the evil sisters get tossed down a hill in a barrel full of nails (if my memory serves me well)
in the same as you sister! this is my childhood i need more people reacting
Been awhile since I've seen it
This movie was my childhood ☺️
I love that movie, very clever and entertaining. I love the songs
This is Anne's most iconic film
ohhhhh you just need to watch Stardust after that! :3
If your looking into reacting to a new series I would recommend Good omens, Stranger things, and Umbrella Academy. They are all really good and really funny 😄
Its literally soooo good, I love this film.
Ok what I dont get is how Edgar completely forgot the crown was poisoned like dude you just did a whole monologue about it
also Blast from the Past is amazing
I love how much you love this movie because I love it just as much 🥰😄
Idk but I still love Hugh Dancy very much
Oh and I don't like Minnie drive as you do. Here or in Goodwill Hunting
19:27 IT SHOULD BE! You so right!
Can you do a reaction of Looking in HBO? please and thank you!
All of his Anastasia. Prove me wrong. She's the nicer one, isn't she?
I'm going to recommend a Grimm's fairytale based miniseries called 'The 10th Kingdom'. You will definitely love it! 😁
You're welcome! 😄 lol
Yes she would
I'm happy you saw Ella Enchanted, my sister really like this film. You should have a larger following, in my opinion. I'd want to hear your comments on Spider-Man 4 supercut short film I created. This type of creative storytelling had never been attempted before :) You, along with other undervalued RUclipsrs, will have a chance to be featured in the channel when I broadcast your reaction. Is that something you'd be interested in participating in? Please contact me and I will provide you with the URL!
Can your next reaction be infinity train?
I loved this movie growing up
