I thought this was a pretty darn good movie. It was actually the most enjoyable theater experience I've had since after the lockdown. It was done with such style, that the plot (which was admittedly pretty silly) was almost irrelevant. You got the impression that everyone was having a ball. Some people got hung up on the "inconsistencies" between this origin story and what we saw in the animated movie. I didn't consider them inconsistencies, because I think they're meant to be two entirely separate things. It's not meant to perfectly lead into "101 Dalmatians."
Exactly! There's at LEAST a good 2+ years between the movies based on the puppies' ages just guessing from their sizes in 101. Pongo and Perdita look at least 3 or 4 months old when Anita and Roger get them.
I always thought what would make a good sequel is if the plot was this: Cruella’s fashion business is in jeopardy with arrival of another fashion company, maybe Le Pelt from 102, that has been incorporating fur in their fashion. She wants to try outdo the competitors in that style, so she becomes hellbent on the Dalmatian fur coat. Not only would it look good on her, but it would impress the public thus saving not only her business but her fashion reputation. 🤍🖤❤️
I watched a explanation of the fashion, and the reason the fashion of Cruella and the Baroness doesn’t feel very 70’s is because they want to evoke the feeling of the baroness being stuck in the past when it comes to her fashion and ideals, while they wanted Cruella to have a more unique, ahead-of-it’s-time type of feel.
I love this film! I knew from the trailer that I was going to love it. My only complaint is that I kinda wish Cruella really did kill the dalmatians just to have her lose some sympathy points so we remember that we still hate the person she becomes later and that we don't want to root for her wanting to kill dalmatian puppies but I'm also kinda glad they lived cause I can never watch a dog die even if it's fiction. I'm really excited for the sequel that was announced recently (now that Emma Stone apparently worked out a deal with Disney after considering suing them after Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit) and I actually hope it's going to focus on her developing her love for fur. Although I don't know if the movie is meant to be an actual origin story or an origin story of an alternate universe version of Cruella where the whole wanting to kill puppies was just a rumor (possibly started by Roger).
emma stone has been making me question my sexuality since 2012. i know it isn't everyone's cup of tea but this movie was so good and her british accent and dual personality is amazing in this movie. she plays two characters, basically. i love this twist on the story especially the dog coat thing being a rumour spread by the baroness to make her look bad. "this is your father, i'm going to lose it" OH HONEY its so much worse than that - oh that made me and my cousin laugh
Have you seen 'Megamind' yet? I think you'd really love that one. Such an underrated movie. Oh, and the sequel of Treasure Planet was scrapped because the first one didn't do well at the box office for some reason, it had a completely finished story board and a pirate girl love interest for Jim. Join the outraged sequel wanters. We welcome another member.
Literally just watched this for the first time last week. I've watched it 4 times now. Then you pop up with a reaction 3 days after I last watched it! YAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!
When I watched this for the first time I figured out so much of the plot but I thought that John was her dad I didn't see that the Baron wasn't gonna be her mom
This movie made me think of my maternal grandmother who was very good at sewing and wanted to work in the sewing ateliers of Paris but couldn't do it because of her mother. Fun fact : the music where Estella is drunk is used in France where I live for the advisor of the perfume " La petite robe noire " by Guerlain
Great reaction. Loved it. You especially pointed out a number of things I missed with your on point perspective on the fashion angle. That truly is one of the challenges of including someone brilliant in your script. I've read a number of books where a character is a genius writer, and a lot of time it makes the book terrible. The authors are usually good, but not genius level authors. So when they try to write the portions the character was supposed to have written, it just doesn't stand up. The best ones escape actually quoting any of the passages. Here though, with a genius in fashion, in a media focused so much on seeing the world the characters live in, it would be impossible to escape showing the fashions being made by the characters. Who ever they got to do them really did a good job, at least as far as the general public is concerned.
Even though it's just moths, the reason why the fashion people are freaked out is because moths eat clothes made from animal fibers. And the guy who's name she couldn't remember was Horace
If this wasn't a Disney movie, the movie could have ended with the Baroness saying, that Cruella killed her dogs and made clothes out of them. That would have indicated, that she really killed them, making her transformation to how we know her in 101 Dalmatians complete. Of course that would have made the movie too short, but you know what I mean...
I love this and it makes me wonder if it'll lead into a version of 101 Dalmatians where Cruella doesn't want to kill the puppies, but I don't know for sure.
It was a super solid origin story, she didn't become a hero and still is a villian of sorts and gave more rational to her brand of "evil" that is easily connectable to the iconic Glenn Close version (OG Miranda if you think about it); as well as, the mind set of why she went off on Anita for leaving her career for marriage..... Still how she's all "Hey, puppy coat" being the perfect recipe for consequences... That's to be seen. But definitely now a lot more dark since she gave Anita and Roger their dogs.... So we'll see how they do the sequel 😬 (I'm very excited)
I liked the middle, when she shows her passion for fashion cause the original Cruella did like that But what anger me about this movie is that they completly forget the fact that she likes fur-coats and was willing to kill animals to get that but this Cruella? Nope. Also she is the reason that Anita and Roger got Pongo and the girl-Dalmation? Nah i Dont like that ending.
Maybe her fur coat obssession started in her older age? And as she grows she just got more crazy like how we see her in 101 dalmatians? I think thats just how it is, since this only tells how Cruella started to form, not about Cruella's whole life/personality. And Cruella herself tells that she could be even more worse because she "still young". That explains her personality in 101
Cruella reminds me a lot of Simba from the lion king 🦁👑 because both of them had their parents murdered, ran away, made new friends, got revenge on their parents murderer but doesn’t kill anyone or the murderer and are some kind of royalty🤴 🫅 👸
It's one of my favorite of Disney's live-action remakes, along with Cinderella and The Jungle Book. I do get why a lot of fans wanted her to be truer to her character. Maybe we'll see that in the sequel; I just want her to wear more than just black.
I feel like there is too few who actually know the title of the song playing at 19:46, it's "Sympathy for the Devil" By the Rolling Stones. doesn't that make it a very fitting song for this?
I think this movie is alright, but because she's a villain from another movie, You can't leave out the context that she enjoys stealing people's pets, beloved pets, and skinning them to make coats, and that she even tried to skin puppies, PUPPIES to make clothing, she would have succeeded if it wasn't for the protagonists.
So are we really going to forget that Che’s obsessed with fur coats and wanted a Dalmatian fur coat made from puppies and she stole the puppies from her loyal emplyies who didn’t want their dogs killed for a coat. Are we really going to forget that original story? Wait. So she resolved everything and gave pongs and perdita to their owners. Why what? This makes no sense too me. I’m going with this being an alternate world where she made a false fur coat and over threw her evil mom and doesn’t get the need to slighter puppies in order to make a coat.
That or she's telling the story from her perspective meaning she's twisting things and facts that did not happen. Happens a lot in villains stories as a sympathy drive or so you see them as the victim.
