It is the most generic and forgettable Marvel movie. I’d rather movies like black panther, Shang chi or a Thor movie where it’s mostly one race that eventually makes up a special group of individuals that eventually meet up to save the world. I’m surprised they didn’t write an eternal that was in a wheelchair or one that one that’s blind waiting to get a sex change. Why would arishham make a deaf person if he can make anything? For reference, Thanos is an Eternal but has a deviant gene (that's why he looks different). In comics tho, Eternals were beings, not robots that get memories wiped.

The film was announced 4 years ago and we have yet to see any movement on the project. it got delayed like 4 times I think, the script was allegedly only 90 pages with 2 garbage fight scenes, and Mahershalla himself was reportedly getting frustrated with the whole project. Besides, I think he was the wrong choice to cast as blade, not because of his acting, but his age. He’s 49, and when I think is pretty we’ll known that an mcu movie contract is a multi year deal, so they needed to cast someone young that can play him for 10 years at least.

I love that detail, and that he still has it after all this time, especially since their relationship wasn't planned in the script at all, was added last minute to the film and Barry and Lauren improvised most of it! Kingo is funny, Makkari is quirky, Phastos is creative (not to mention a family man), Druig had his way of thinking but still cared about humanity at the end of the day, and Gilgamesh was a real one. • @WhiteTiger93

I personally really liked the Eternals. I thought the soundtrack and cinematography was beautiful. What I would have done different though, is have the first 40% of the movie set in the past, and the remaining 60% be present day, with Sersi having to gather everyone again and we could see how they changed over the years. That way, we could see their story start and have their personalities introduced to us, and having a split story like that also allows them the room for the movie to scale to them. Which I really liked the Eternals wasn't a big crossover, but their own story.
Jumping back and forwards makes it a little difficult to learn them, but they did a decent job showing everyone, but if the average movie goer went in, not knowing anything Marvel, having the movie feel like it was all set in the past and then catch everyone off guard with the time job I think would have been smoother vs the constant time jumps.
I gave it approximately 8/10 when watching in theaters, wasn't perfect, but I like the story, and the cinematography, VFX, soundtrack were all beautiful. Looking forward to your future reactions!

The voice in the post credit scene was Blade. There are theories that phastos was the one who helped the wakandans read their advanced technology. There is also a theory that Thanos knew about celestial seed's in planets teeming with life. So bye wiping half of all forms in the universe Thanos saved a lot of planets and civilizations that would have been completely wiped out by the birth of the celestial in them. Now in the comic books Thanos was half eternal and deviant so that theory would make sense but I think Thanos is a mutant in the MCU.

in the comics, yes. But not in the MCU where Eternals are synthetic beings manufactured and programmed aboard the World Forge instead of born to parents. We don't know exactly what Thanos is yet, or what his "brother" relationship to Starfox will be in the movie universe. The MCU has entirely different history and lore when it comes to the Eternals' origins.
Deviant gene syndrome from the comics probably doesn't exist in the MCU either. Deviants and Eternals aren't evolutionary offshoots of humanity in the MCU, Deviants are even humanoids, they're an alien race of bioengineered superpredator who resembled wireframe reptlies until they started absorbing traits of Eternals in this movie. Given that MCU Thanos is approximately 1000 years old, that's well before he was created/born or however he came into existence.

Most of the DC characters are much older, by about 20 years, except Captain America and a couple others that have never been introduced in the movies. But initially, the Eternals were not based on DC heroes. They were based on mythology. Hence names like Thena (Athena), Ikaris, Sersei and Gilgamesh. Makkari is similar to Mercury, which was the Roman name of the Greek speed God, Hermes. Also, Ikaris in the comics does not use eye beams like that. He shoots beams from his hands like Kingo. But I guess they wanted to differentiate the characters.
Also, Marvel does have a DC heroes-like team called the Squadron Supreme. They have versions like the Justice League. Hyperion is the Superman and Nighthawk is the Batman.

    • @neospock5034

Ikaris used eyebeams in the comics back in the 1970s. So did Sersi at times, but Ikaris used that form of attack most often. And the MCU actually did introduce Marvel's two other oldest characters. Namor was the antagonist in Wakanda Forever, and the original Human Torch briefly appeared as an easter egg in Captain America: The First Avenger.

That was Blade that spoke to "John Snow" at the end. He's known as a hero named Black Knight. And Thanos was half Deviant and half Eternal. His planet Titan was basically filled with Eternals.

Thanks for this reaction, you two. Sorry I'm late getting to this video. I've had crazy busy days lately.
For my part, I enjoyed this movie for what it is. I can understand your issues with the pacing and story choices, but I also appreciate the what Marvel Studios sought to make, and the challenges involved with introducing so many new characters and telling a narrative of this scope. There's commentary here and there about how this might have worked better as two separate films, or as a TV series followed by a movie, but I think Chloe Zhao did what she could with what she was given.
It's also understandable that you can see the Eternals as parodies of DC characters. Certainly, their comic book versions were introduced long after the big names in DC like Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash. And Marvel Comics did come up with parodies/expies of the Justice League, but that was the Squadron Supreme rather than the Eternals.
In the source material, the Eternals' names and power sets are based on deities from various Earth mythologies and traditions, but Greco-Roman mythology in particular: Ikaris is based on Icarus, Sersi on Circe, Makkari on Mercury, Phastos on Hephaestus, and so on. They were written as genetic offshoots of Homo Sapiens, instead of aliens or artificial beings. And in the comics, Thanos himself was born to a pair of Eternals on Saturn's moon Titan, but he also had a Deviant gene which altered his appearance (and perhaps his psychology). Exactly how he relates to Eros and the Eternals in the MCU remains to be seen.

I love this movie, the biggest scale, the deepest message, great cast, great CGI, and the only movie where aliens doesn't show much human feelings.
The reason why the characters didn't seem as powerful as they said to be is because they've only faced deviants (which each one is a 70% of Thanos level treat) and then they fought each other, they didn't faced vulture, red skull, green goblin, misterio, Loki,or even Ultron,if they do something like that, there's no movie...
And yeah, Thanos is a eternal born with the deviant virus.(but they didn't have a way to know that,so they didn't faced him neither)
I'm sad about sprite, she have at least two deleated scenes that says a lot about her,one is in the museum explaining how she was the one who invented politics, religion, even marriage.(which is sad because she then saw ikaris getting married, and she's the only one looking sad in that scene)
And has another where she exposed how tired she's from humans and their selfishness.
Which is the plot of the movie, the ones who turned more humane are the ones putting humans over gods of creation.(even when humans can easily exterminate themselves in less than a week...)
This movie is also the first step into a bigger scale of movies that indeed are going to involve celestials, monsters etc.

I love the movie, for providing so much imagination fuel. Arasham revealing their true mission, to birth a celestial at the expense of the planet, felt like a Matrix level reveal to me. It’s just a pity we’ve had so little follow up so far… but it’s rumored that Captain America: New World Order will have the nations of the world fighting for mineral rights to the dead celestial.

They actually do, but it’s in passing Easter eggs. On a world with Asgardian Gods, Aliens attacking New York, Killer Robot armies, and the Big 3; a giant stone statute in the Indian Ocean would get as much coverage as the desert Monolith did a few years ago.

Had this movie on in the background while I completed an online test. I will say that i didnt miss much and will consider that a watch. It felt like writers winging it going, ok now what, when you have characters with powers being self-conscious (rather than than self-aware) standing around chatting until the next scene, doesn't make much of a compelling movie to me, overall. I imagined they would be doing their own thing, but no, they're just referencing Avengers at a table and just almost breaking fourth wall almost turning to the audience until the movie's done.

I am glad you both liked this one because sadly most don't but personally I loved this one so much. now to the end credits the first one was the brother of Thanos and the only reason why he isn't purple is because thanos was an Eternal and also a Deveant as well so that is why he is purple. The actress of the speedster is really deaf and the yell she did when Ikaris attacked the one that can control minds that was the actress that came up with it. The second one with Dane that was a sword that allows the one that holds it to become what is known as the Dark Knight but the problem with it is that everytime it is used to kill an enemy it effects the one holding it and makes them darker and that is what happened to Dane's uncle and also the reason he doesn't speak to him anymore. The one that spoke from the shadows was Blade...the new MCU version of him any way and if you have not seen the blade movies with Westley snipes I highly recommend you see at least the first one.

Dane Whitman is the Avenger known as the Black Knight, wielder of the accursed Ebony Blade. The voice he hears is from the Day-Walker Blade, the vampire-hunter.
Eros or Starfox reveals to us several things... on different worlds, Eternals were able to grow out of Celestial domination and even enjoy fruitful co-existence with not only indigenous beings on the worlds they livedon, like Titan, but even have FAMILIAL relations with Deviant-DNA-mutants there, like Thanos.
Celestials are great creators and preservers of the Multiverse on a scale BEYOND He Who Remains. So too are the race of Watchers (see WHAT IF...?), and the world-devourer, Galactus (FANTASTIC FOUR).

If that's true, that sucks about the part 2. Haven't looked it up. But I think in today's age, the fan base can be a detriment to movies when they become toxic about reviews. This movie was not bad at all it's just on another level of the normal beat em up MCU content. Me myself am curious what would come next in this story in a part 2.
