I think the father is a well written character, his character development, his mistakes, his dark past, all of that is so make sense in real life

@@tbakhalid4781, I want a movie to follow a separate timeline where the Mandarin engages Iron Man. He is the overarching antagonist of the Iron Man trilogy and is indirectly responsible for Iron Man’s creation
His dad is such an awesome villain. Impossible to kill because he's family, incredibly powerful, ruthless presence, and genuinely trying to fight for love, with a great redemption. Top tier writing/performance 👌
I love that the main antagonist isn't a bad guy, he's just trying to free his wife.
Grief is the villain of the phase 4....
@@kaviyak9220 absolutely. I know people have gripes about this phase, but still convinced it'll serve a stronger purpose when we return to the Avengers films. And there's so many films/shows people disliked initially that already seem so much better upon rewatching now

No, Katie's grandma isn't Mrs Chen from Venom.
Wong WAS the librarian at Kamar Taj because the previous one was murdered by Kæcilius at the beginning of the movie. The monster he was fighting was the Abomination from the Incredible Hulk, albeit with a bit of a redesign. He now looks just like his comic book appearance.
Don't they remember anything from previous movies? Usually with two reactors one will remember what the other misses (re: Popcorn in Bed).

to be fair multiple times in the phase 2 and 3 reactions they remember stuff from earlier films that I expected to go right over their heads. Phase 4 and 5 is where I fear Marvel is losing the general audience, as evidenced by these reactions. The fact they didn't like He Who Remains is SHOCKING to me, but I'm not a part of the general audience, I'm a lot more into this stuff than most people so maybe that's why. @@juliansutare935

Shang-Chi was way better than I expected! The martial arts action is both cool and refreshing for the MCU, the acting performances are great, and I appreciate how this is a good standalone movie even for people who haven’t seen many of the previous MCU films with the exception of some character appearances. Hope Destin Daniel Cretton does a great job with the next Avengers film!

Not alot of ppl noticed the big guy from the bus is the same guy from spiderman homecoming, the street vendor dude, and that monster Wong was fighting is the obomination from the incredible hulk
This film had influences from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Dragon Ball Z, Jackie Chan's filmography, the Ip Man series, Tai Chi Master, Kung Fu Hustle, The Matrix, Speed, anime, and video games. Brad Allan, rest in peace. I was only 12 years old in 1996. Since 1993, I have been a fan of Shang-Chi.
I honestly think this is one of the best of phase 4. I never knew about Shang-Chi so this is nice. Plus I love martial arts and the mystical theme they got in this.
It was only 2 days for the path on the map to become clear. The creature Wong was fighting in the cage was the abomination the villain in The incredible Hulk movie. Shang-chi martial arts skills are so great even without the 10 Rings he can go toe-to-toe with superpowered characters and win. Of course with the 10 rings he can go toe-to-toe with characters on the same level as Thor.
The fight choreographer for this film was Andy Cheng, he was a part of Jackie Chan's stunt team, so you can see the inspiration behind the fights in the movie
And the late brad Allen,another prominent member of the stunt team
30:43 fun fact: the ost is the combination of the mothers and fathers theme. You mentioned moments later he has both powers. An amazing little detail
when i was 7 we did archery at school and having never shot a bow and arrow i still did a really good job. its actually one of the easiest sports to learn so yes please get into some archery its really fun.

This was one of those movies that I was slightly nervous about watching because I knew nothing about Shang-Chi from the comics.
And I ended up loving it. It's definitely one of the best in Phase 4. Great cast, great storyline, and great visuals. And the cameos from past MCU characters worked. I always love seeing Wong.
Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
btw in comics Shang Chi is the greatest martial artist (even Spider-Man came to take lessons from him when other martial artists are in the comics universe) and I love how they translated it to movies cuz this movie has the best hand to hand fight scenes
Shang chi is one of the few movies that's grown on me since it's release. It's in my upper teir 2nd tier MCU movies.
Fun fact: the guy livestreaming in the bus near the start of the film was in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It's all connected.
Say what you will about the TV shows, the shows you saw established a lot of the stuff you see in the background in this film, particularly what you guys caught about the post-blip support which was a main plot point in Falcon & Winter Soldier.
Vince caught Wong, but it looks like you guys missed that the big green thing he was fighting was Abomination, the bad guy from The Incredible Hulk. The motion capture was done by someone else, but the voice was done by the original actor Tim Roth (even though it's mostly growls and grunts in this one). Again, it's all connected.
Vince was also right. Ben Kingsley reprises his role as stage actor Trevor Slattery, who in Iron Man 3 played the part of The Mandarin for the cameras. There's a Marvel Short Film called "All Hail the King" where they show the REAL Mandarin, the bad guy in this film, breaking him out of jail to punish him for using his name without permission. One last time, it's all connected.
You're already over 11+ films so it'd be good for you to do a refresher of what you've seen before because you might miss details later on, especially with returning characters. That also applies to the TV shows once you hit the next Doctor Strange movie.

It’s a longstanding theme in Marvel that people who pursue power become monsters. Those who happen upon it have a choice. The right choice makes them a hero. But even making the wrong choice multiple times doesn’t necessarily make them a monster. Everyone can be redeemed. Sometimes even the monsters.

And y'all completely talked through a KEY scene... The Big Green Dude is Abomination from "Incredible Hulk" and Wong (from Dr. Strange) was pretend fighting him. Wong broke him out of jail to do this, but he eventually took him back through a portal.
understandable why they didn't catch that was abomination tho, he looks way different and more similar to the comic version which is honestly a plus. Don't remember if they say its him by name but even still its been a while
I wouldn't call that a "key" scene. Certainly not essential to the plot.

I really like Shang Chi, I think it's one of the best projects post end -game. it reminds me of like early MCU - when we'd just focus on like Capt, or Iron Man.
The great thing about this is the film ages so well
The Bus scene 6:45 is inspired by Oldboy (2003) corridor fight.
The fight with the Masked Ninja 12:45 is inspired from Kakashi vs Obito fight (Naruto Shippuden).
That's what I picked up aside from all the other references mentioned here.
I really didn't want to see this in the theaters. I just wasn't as thrilled about it as the previous ones. But...what a great movie! Pretty much flawless.
Shang Chi was a kung fu movie first, super hero movie second. It was a complete surprise for how good it was!
Very random fact: In the bus scene, one of the extras is a guy I went to high school with and we're still social media friends. When I saw that scene, I was like "that is NOT who I think it is?!" I ended up messaging him about it and he was all nonchalant like "yep, that's me." He said it was cool to see the action up close.

You know a lot of people say the same thing when at first they see Shang-Chi's parents fight each other they look like they are dancing, and for the most part, they actually are and that's basically one of the many aspects of the many Martial Art Stiles and technics you literally dance with your opponent and if you make the wrong move you get hit. Am I wrong? anyone? maybe but that is what I know and how I was taught.
Nope! Not Wrong at all 😊. Martial arts is all about ready an Opponent just as much as reading/reacting to your partner in tandem with your actions.

Shang-Chi is a great movie definitely one of my favorites. The action and story are pretty good too. The fighting styles reminds me of the old school Kung Fu movies

Hey, guys! Loved your reaction to this awesome movie! I think a lot of fans wondered whether Marvel could still make really good movies, once "Infinity War" and "Endgame" were over. This one proved it was still more than possible.
Glad you mentioned how good Wen Wu was as a villain. What's even more amazing is that he was played by veteran Hong Kong actor Tony Leung. He's spent almost 30 years working in TV and film, and is basically a household name in his hometown. But throughout his career, Leung had never taken part in a Hollywood project -- until this one. The fact that for his first Hollywood movie, and his first English-speaking role, he chose to be in an MCU film is mind-blowing. It was a real coup for Marvel Studios to convince him to join, and as you noted, his presence in this story was incredible.
It was cute to see Shoshanna hoping to see unicorns in Ta Lo. Unfortunately, it wasn't about to happen, though. The fantastic creatures we saw there are all based on Chinese and East Asian mythology, not Western. And as you might have guessed, that's the source for a lot of other intellectual properties, like Pokemon. The closest thing they had to unicorns there in Ta Lo were the qilin, the large scaled horses that crossed our heroes' path on the way in.

You guys should watch the One-Shot Short Film "All Hail The King" set after Iron-Man 3 which sets up Trevor's role in this and revealed the Mandarin was real afterall.
Shang-Chi is so underrated, one of the best MCU movies tbh. Also Wenwu is a fantastic villain. That was Wong in the cage fight, he was in Infinity war and endgame too! Also he was fighting the Blonsky/Abomination from Incredible Hulk

18:12 The nine tailed fox is something of East Asian myth. I think Japan, Korea, and China have different versions of it. The demon in Naruto is also a 9 tailed fox, though I don't know how legit the 1-8 tailed beasts are to Asian folklore.
37:40 Martial arts geek here: In the film, it more like kung-fu (properly called wushu), somewhat based on maybe hung gar from the dad and tai chi from the mom. Tae kwon do is a Korean style that resembles the rigidity of karate, but emphasizes kicking more (when you play fighting games with a tae kwon do character, you'll know...).
This movie has the best hand to hand combat in the MCU
When Shang was controlling the rings like that I thought of Kamehameha as well. I love Dragon Ball Z, grew up with it. I hope you guys watch the series, and make sure it's Z and not Kai.
If you like the fight scenes, the Le brothers (Andy and Bryan Le) also choreographed the fight scenes in "everything, everywhere, all at once".
They're also RUclipsrs who do fight choreography and stunts, with friends, called "martial club".
Michelle Yeo (the mother) is also in "everything, everywhere, all at once" and the epic "crouching Tiger, hidden dragon" as well as many others.
I love Shang Chi. One of my favorite MCU movies, and definitely my favorite origin movie. Also, the animals you saw were all based on Chinese myth.

Look at doctor strange, his sequel took 6 years to come after his first movie. It sucks but it’s just how it is🤷♂️. The universe is big now

Love this one! So many call-backs. The Ten Rings appear in the first Ironman, they are the guys that kidnap Tony Stark (you can see their logo behind Tony in the video they send to Obie). Trevor Slattery - the acTOR -from Ironman 3 comes back. Wong (now the sorcerer supreme since Dr Strange got blipped) is back. Abomination (Hulk villain that is fighting with Wong) returns from Incredible Hulk. Kev (the guy who records the bus fight) is also in Spiderman Homecoming, with his famous line : "Do a flip!" This movie brought back my MCU hype
Those unicorn with dragon horn and scally body is “Kirin”, ancient Japan/China depiction of Giraffe

Spoiler alert: Bruce was supposed to be in smart Hulk form permanently unable to turn back into a human because my heart is the combined form of both of them. He needed to turn himself back to human form because he was unable to heal as the hulk because of the extra gamma ray his body absorbed from the infinity gauntlet. Gamma ray the hulk his powers but it also can effect him even kill him.

It's funny that you mention Michelle Yeoh was in Crazy Rich Asians. So were Aquafina and Ronnie Chang. But Michelle is best known for her role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, and for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She won an Oscar for EEAAO. She is known in China for her martial arts skills, starring with Jackie Chan in many international hits, and writes and produces too. Also, Shawn's and Katy's friend who thinks they're lazy also starred in EEAAO with Michelle. This was a fun movie. The creatures are from Chinese legends. the Qilin are the dragon scaled horse-like creatures. And the lions were Chinese Guardian Lions. That is why they acted like they own the place and it is why you see them as statues in front of many buildings or rooms. The 9-tail fox is said to have the ability to disguise itself as a beautiful human woman! Naruto's spirit is 9-Tails and is often depicted as a 9-tail fox. Great reactions and lots of fun! Looking forward to the next one!

Lawd the Father’s grief was too much. He was obsessed with those rings and couldn’t accept the fact that his wife had died, thus putting her whole village and family in danger. She would be ashamed of her widowed husband. Can’t wait to go and see The Marvels in November.
