    • @mikeolithory898
      @mikeolithory898 3 года назад +1

      From what I've read, according to King & araya, it was because he was never consistent with the line-up. There has been a few times that Dave needed some time off but the other guys weren't having it. Also, keep in mind that most songs are credited by Jeff & Kerry. & then you have Tom handling both bass & vocals.. & all 3 of them were consistent till the very end. In a way I can see why Dave wasn't getting equal pay, but a top-tier drummer like him deserved better. Not sure how the other members of slayer sliced the rest of the pie, but after everything deducted, they should have given him at least 20% from any leftover profit while the rest split the 80% between the 3 of them.

    • @stephenc.4319
      @stephenc.4319 3 года назад +1

      @@mikeolithory898 The writing credits have nothing to do with that pay debate. Songwriting royalties are a separate matter, of course the writers get their proper royalties there. What Dave was unhappy about was he was getting cut short with regard to touring pay. There's four guys up there on the stage, he's giving just as hard as the other guys if not harder, it's not justifiable to pay him next to nothing.

    • @mikeolithory898

      @Stephen thanks for that info. I always assumed touring musicians got pretty anal when it comes to split pay during live shows because x musician wrote xyz compared to other bandmates. I found this on metalsucks that Dave actually made over $200,000 in 2011.
      In 2011, Lombardo made a good bit more than $200,000. Most of it was Slayer money. Payouts from Slayer included:
      $106,650.00 Global Merch Advance
      $ 17,776.31 Adjusted Payment for South American Tour
      $ 14,349.22 from a tour with Rob Zombie (a dozen dates in under 3 weeks)
      $ 8,505.35 in other “Merch Royalties”
      $ 7,405.23 for Australian Tour 2/23/2011-3/8/2011
      $ 6,699.18 for the summer European Tour
      $ 5,130.45 Retail Touring Merch Royalties
      $ 8,315.88 as a payout listed under “Royalties” as “The Big 4 Show”
      As well as additional payments.
      Half of his income that year went to his ex wife after his divorce, according to metalsucks published in 2014.

    So, set aside the fact that DL is a sort of freak of humanity in what he can do on a modern drum set.
    Then let this sink in: he does not warm up for a show. Nothing. He just gets up on concert day, has a little to eat, perhaps some iced tea or a beer, then walks out on stage and does... _that_ ...
