@@Guitargate I stumbled upon these guys too a few months past - Blackberry Smoke. The Singer/Lead guitar and rhythm guitarist harmonize much like Roth with Anthony... but in a strange yet wonderful southern rock style. ruclips.net/video/BzoVLDdHwW4/видео.html
As a mom I can attest, nothing soothes a baby like daddy head banging to Slayer. It reminds them of being in the womb… when mommy was head banging to Slayer. 😜 And yes, Lombardo is THE ABSOLUTE BOSS. His hat is fitting - the man is a monster on the throne!
As a drummer (in my youngster years), I don't know how the hell Dave Lombardo keeps up that pace for an entire show....fucken amazing! I've always loved his drumming.
Dave's style is frantic and right on the edge, its so much more intense than the way Paul bostaph plays it , and don't get me wrong, Paul plays the album version of each song mathematically perfect, but Dave is a left handed man playing a right handed set up, its so integral to his style, the best thrash metal drummer of all time, period.
Bostaph plays it like a robot. I literally can't make it through a Bostaph drum cam video. It's so stiff and mechanical with no flow. Lombardo shows here how it's meant to be played. And he's evolved it since the album version.
I saw them at Clash of the Titans in 1991 and the main atraccion for me from Slayer is and was Dave Lombardo, I mean this guy can drum mimmic the sound of a tsunami just devastating everything on its path. That's the best way I can describe his powerful drumming style!! Dave Lombardo, man!!
Dave Lombardo is absolutely one of the greatest drummers of all time and he’s self taught. I love his drumming so much. He’s a once in a lifetime talent.
I’ve seen Slayer when I was a kid back in the 80s in a club called L’Amours in Brooklyn and goddamn those were the most intense shows you will ever see. I thought I was gonna die at a few. LOL. And yes Dave Lombardo was that shit.
Slayer will always be the greatest metal band ever many will try but no one will ever duplicate I'm 49 years old and they have been my favorite band since I seen that my first time 85-86 Reign in Blood tour Overkill opened up for them my ears rang for 3 days I knew I had found my favorite band for all time R.I.P Jeff hanneman you're missed
Got my son a mini acoustic drum kit when he was 3. Cool stuff! BTW congrats on your new TrueFire course on Jam Band Guitar! Just saw that this morning.
Loved watching and listening to Lombardo from this angle... and you were rewinding it for a second look at the perfect times.(Gotta admit, first time I've enjoyed a heavy metal anything, probably cause of the angle and focus on the drummer...Jack drew me in,😊) But what I really loved...is seeing baby Jack on Dad's chest! Handsome boy you have there!!
"Listen, you guys in the front here, if you see someone going down, help 'em out alright? That's what you're here to do; help each other out! This is a song called WWAAARRRR ENNNSSSEEMMMBBBLLLEEEE!!!" Slayer's "Decade of Aggression" changed my life back in 1991. I should also add that a liner note photo of a young Kerry King, with his spiky armband and red BC Rich Mockingbird, was the image that inspired me to pick up a guitar for the first time. Someday I'll own a Mockingbird again.
I was at the Lakeland Civic Center (Lakeland, Florida) when that was recorded! The back cover photo is the inside of the area. The from cover photo is them outside at the corner. That was the hottest, and most intense concert I've ever been to. There were a lot of people that went down that night.
At first I thought you were a little overly positive, then I realized that you remind me of my 8th grade social studies teacher, mr Bryson, who was my favorite teacher ever. We need more people like mike in this world, stay positive. And FYI both of my small kids love the Grateful Dead and metal too
I feel like Beavis and/or Butthead when I say, “YES, YES, YES!”. Paul is a great drummer too, saw Slayer with both drummers, and there’s just no replacement for Dave! Thanks, Michael. That vid made me as giddy as a little girl. “War Ensemble, Jack” Hahaha! Love it!
how the F is this finally coming on to my page i was fortunate enough to be at the show dave lombardo just hits his drums different is all i can come up with after listening to him for three decades album south of heaven is my fave and the song live undead (3rd tune) blows my mind with the drumming fun reaction
Seemed he did 👌 Hey Michael only just found your channel through Tom Bukovac channel. Great content having a little dude about defo brings a new dynamic 👍
I’m actually new to this channel, I really wanted to see you react to some more of my favorite country singers. Personally I love Riley Green, any song by him is great but “Bury me in Dixie” or “Wish grandpas never died” are both great songs. He just released an acoustic album with these songs which sound amazing. I already love your reaction videos keep up the great content!!!
I love your channel After watching your" Nose On The Grindstone" clip, I strongly recommend "Sideways" by Travis Meadows.... Thank you for what your doing
Concidering Yankee Stadium is just across the highway from Harlem, and in the density of the Bronx....I can imagine the looks on every resident's faces hearing Slayer and Tom Araya screams.....
Michael I have a suggestion you examine Mahavishnu Orchestra live album "Between Nothingness and Eternity". Specifically the first track, "Trilogy," where John Mclaughlin and Jan Hammer trade licks for the second time. I love the way they communicate. Absolutely smokin Thanks
Hey Dude! Check out a band called 'Main Squeeze' and either of their covers of 'Have a Cigar' or 'RedBone'. The guitarist is absolutely phenomenal. Band is fantastic too.
Please review Ben Caplan down to the river. This is truly a song that will drop your jaw guaranteed or your money back lol. But seriously you will not be let down. Thank you again for this channel!!! You Rock!!
Any chance you could check out one of the official guitar playthroughs by the band Inferi? I asked a long time ago but you enver got around to it, and I donated on one or two of your live shows but I guess you missed mine. I'd love to see 'Thy Menacing Gaze' or 'Condemned Assailant" if you do one! (they play in C standard btw) The guitar player/lead songwriter is also doing a series breaking down specific riffs. Could be cool to see you do a video going through one of his breakdowns and either analyzing it, or even trying to learn the riff! :D Great video as always!
I was at this show. It was a clear, sunny day and Slayer was set to go o. Stage when the sun was still out. As soon as their intro started the sky went dark and it started to lightly drizzle. The rain stopped minutes after they got off stage. Apparently even God knows Slayer is best served in darkness. 😂
I concur. I was right in the middle of the front GA section. Slayer blew everyone off the stage that day. Anthrax will always be a step down. Megadeth is too sterile live and Metallica is a happy band compared to Slayer!!!!!
If you are amazed by Dave, check out Pete Sandoval. His audio from a drum check is floating around on youtube. And before a big to do erupts, I have seen them play 3 times, and he is indeed that fast.
Hi Mike, do know or remember Jennifer Turner who played on Natalie Merchant’s Tiger Lilly record? Her playing and tone always stood out to me, and then I found out she was female, and that made it even more cool. Have a listen back if you know or did not. Let me know what you think. Do "Wonder", if I'm not mistaken, I think it is a I, vii dim, vi, V, VI. Thanks, Earl
you should check out King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - The River (live on kexp) and also their song crumbling castle (live on kexp) they're one of the best modern bands out there right now in my opinion
New viewer! Love your videos man. Has anyone recommended Gojira yet? If you love the heavy music, Id love to see your reaction to "Heaviest Matter of the Universe" 😂
This has got to be my favorite one so far... Slayer and babies... Tipper Gore would be furious with you young man! hahahaha
You sir, get the pin with the Tipper Gore reference.

He's a machine... but in a good way... the way he runs on those pedals, and the precision of his timing is a truly amazing thing.

Gary Holt , from Exodus, is the other guitarist filled in for Jeff Hanneman , Gary is a monster and seems to be a super nice guy 🤘
I can't tell if he's wearing his "Kill the Kardashians" t-shirt. I think he wore it for this show lol
