Hazbin Hotel Series Description:
Hazbin Hotel is an American adult animated musical comedy streaming television series created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano. The series revolves around Charlie Morningstar, crown princess of Hell, on her quest to find a way for sinners to be "rehabilitated" and allowed into Heaven, via her "Hazbin Hotel", as an alternative to Heaven's annual "Extermination" of wayward souls due to Hell's overpopulation. The series is produced by independent entertainment company A24 and animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, in collaboration with Amazon Studios.
The pilot, released on RUclips on October 28, 2019, was made entirely by freelance animators and was largely financed by Medrano's Patreon followers. The first season premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 18, 2024, with its first episode also released on RUclips on that same day for a limited release. A second season is confirmed to be in production. It has received generally positive reviews from critics.
The popularity and success of the pilot allowed Medrano to create a spin-off series called Helluva Boss, which premiered on October 31, 2020. The series features a different cast of characters within the same in-universe setting.
On January 26, 2024, it was revealed that Hazbin Hotel is the largest global debut for a new animated series on Prime Video.

It's pretty heartbreaking how Angel was more scared for Charlie than for himself. He really does care. Also, "Loser, Baby" is the best song in the show by far. Keith David and Blake Roman have great voices, and I love the message. It's not your usual, "cheer up, things will get better" song. It's more realistic. it's saying, "both our lives suck, but at least we're not alone." I'm so glad Angel Dust has Husk to confide in now.
He wasn't scared for Charlie he was scared that Charlie would get him in trouble. If anybody touched Charlie lucifer would destroy them. But Charlie could probably beat the Valentino without him.
@westonlittle1149 but he literally says something along the lines of "just please don't hurt her." He was scared of him hurting Charlie. He expects the abuse himself no matter what he does, he doesn't want to drag his friends into it too.

It bums me out a little bit how Lucifer's depression tends to fly over people's heads. It might be because he's neurodivergent coded, and being autistic and struggling with depression myself I never even questioned why he didn't visit Charlie all that time. The hyperfixation on making ducks, the self isolation, the "this is the first time SHE'S called YOU in years!", the way he was constantly dissociating while trying to listen to Charlie, the random intrusive thought about falling off the balcony... to me it's REALLY on the nose. He shut himself up in his room for years and was just convinced his daughter didn't WANT to see him. Which, Charlie thought the same thing. So they just never talked. :c
Obviously it could have taken more time to establish and they *could* have made it more obvious aside from making the "take THAT Depression!" joke, but idk, depression in real life is much more like this, it's not super obvious. The pacing is an issue though, streaming networks keep making season lengths shorter and shorter. I feel like Hazbin could have benefited a LOT with even just two extra episodes to give us some time in those in between months.

I'm not sure what it is. Either way, he didn't even need to say it, his depression is on full display the entire time he's at the hotel
I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him.
I absolutely got vibes of Maka's dad from "Soul Eater" from him, where he really *wants* to connect to his daughter, but struggles with actually doing so.
I didn’t like his ark I mean any conflict between him, and Charlie was resolved one episode. It should’ve been a multi episode arc.

This devil isn't a deadbeat - he's just depressed because he got kicked out of heaven, only ever gets to see the bad results of his giving humans free will, he and his wife split up and he thinks his daughter doesn't want to see him

@@SoraJustSora Maybe, but we still don't know what lead to the extermination in the first place. When the show first came out, most of us were certain that Lucifer WAS a deadbeat and thought Charlie was a failure, but that wasn't really the case. Maybe Lilith will surprise us as well. We won't know until season 2.

A common thing with people who experience depression is that they may become more withdrawn from their loved ones, thinking that everyone around them secretly hates them, and that nobody wants anything to do with them. His wife left him, took Charlie. Years pass by of Charlie not initiating calls. That seemingly affirms his depressive belief.
Yeah, it bugged me that the show skipped over 6 months' worth of time in so few episodes, but someone online pointed out that if you view the season through the same lens as an on-stage musical, it makes a *lot* more sense.

I find it funny how he didn't realize that Vaggie and Charlie were a thing till Charlie introduced her to Lucifur even though the episode opens with Vaggie waking up in a bed for two people wondering where Charlie is

I love the symbolism at 14:14. Lucifer’s face just says, “Okay, here we go again,” but in the next scene, when the spears are aimed at Charlie, that’s fear. He’s fine with himself being the target because, as he's the most hated being in all of creation, he’s used to it.
5:50 the video for “Poison” (the scenes playing) actually gives context to the song. The song by itself is a bop, the song with the video is deep.
Angel feels as tho he created his own situation, where the more likely occurrence was that Val manipulated him. This is because Valentino is a moth, and his red saliva (as seen when he licked Charlie’s arm) are actually pheromones to attract people. It didn’t work on Charlie because she’s stronger than he is. Valentino’s red spit is also used by Velvette to make “love potions” (like the roofie the sharks tried to use). His red smoke is also due to his red saliva, which means he literally drugging Angel while on set, making Angel go into dissociating to cope (the lyrics are literally “I disassociate, disappear”). Then we see his dissociation, his dancing, while the screens behind him actually show what’s happening to him.
Ep 4 and Angel: His hypersexuality is a known reaction of SA survivors. Not all, but a lot of SA survivors do become highly sexual and seek sexual situations as a way of trying to take bak control. Angel is just desperate to feel some sense of control over his own body and sexual choices and that translates into aggressive flirtation.
Ep 5 and Lucifer: *I VIBE WITH THIS MAN SO HARD.* This man has been gaslit literally straight to Hell. He's depressed because Heaven made absolutely certain that he will never be able to see any of the good humanity chooses to do as a result of Lucifer's actions--only the evil. He's so against Sinners and the idea of trying to redeem them because, like he said, they were gifted with Free Will and look what they did with it. *He* gave them Free Will, and his choice allowed them to choose evil. Look at that anxious angel man, he's convinced that all of the evils of humanity are HIS FAULT. And then his wife left him and has fucked off who knows where and his relationship with his daughter isn't great. That's one depressed, anxious, and a lot of people read him as autistic, man.
Ep 6 and religious trauma: "If yoy continue to question, you could end up like Lucifer. *Fallen*." Oh. So what gets someone kicked out of Heaven isn't being a bad person, like Adam, it's *questioning.* Lucifer questioned the will of Heaven by giving Eve the fruit. Vaggie's action of letting a demon go rather than killing it amounted to questioning the will of Heaven by questioning, even just a little bit, whether the extermination is right. And now Emily is in danger of falling because she's questioning not just the will of Heaven, but potentially cosmic laws of the universe that even the angels don't fully understand. "It's not as simple as you think, not everything is spelled in ink." Not everything is written, there are some laws that just are, and I think Sera also doesn't really understand what they are. My theory is that the authorities in Heaven *do not actually understand the system because they didn't create it.* I think Hell as a whole is intended to function the way Charlie wants the hotel to function. But because Heaven's authorities don't understand that, they treat it like an eternal prison instead.
I have FEELINGS about this show.
My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."
Poison dropped before the show. It quickly became one of my favorite songs and is painfully relatable. I listen to it a lot at the gym.
Loser, Baby is hands down my favorite song from this show. I listen to it every morning when I get ready for work. It makes me feel like that day might go well. Also, Keith David. Nuff said.
It's so refreshing to see someone who knew nothing of Angel Dust understand his character.
A lot of people write him off as "Ha, ha, sex joke! Ha, ha, drugs! Please laugh!" when he's deeper than that. It's frustrating to see so many people water him down like that
Cherri Bomb isn't a random person, she's one of the characters that got introduced in the Pilot
If you want to check out Helluva Boss, know that they do take place within the same world but have littel to do with one another. Helluva explores earth and the other layers of Hell, where as Hazbin stuck within the Pride ring (1st layer of Hell) and Heaven, but the lore between the two shows should still be the same whenever they overlap.

I think "More Than Anything" and "You Didn't Know" are my favorite songs of the whole series.
also YES you should watch Helluva Boss too! There's great music in it too. The pilot and first episode don't really tell you much about the overall tone of the series-- the second one does. It gets surprisingly deep.

Helluva Boss is just as good, if not better than Hazbin Hotel, it's a webseries in the same Hellverse as Hazbin, but takes place with a host of different characters, eventually they will unite i imagine, so it's good to get into that show at the same time.

The creator doesn't voice anyone in this show, I'm pretty sure, but she does voice a minor character in the 4th episode of the RUclips exclusive sister show, Helluva Boss.
The thing about psychological issues (like depression, which Lucifer seems to suffer from) is that our thoughts influence our emotions and also our behavior. In this case being told that his daughter WANTS to see him is a huge deal, ‘cause he might see himself as a failure, a bad dad (‘cause of the split between him and her mother), … . And seemingly obvious solutions won’t work, unless that person views it as an effective solution (but don’t forget their thinking is impaired, therefore, they might not see it as usefull) …

This was when the tables went from enjoyable to a really good show. I was so taken aback by Angel's turn in a good way. Poison is a heartbreaking song and Loser, Baby is such a turnaround from what happened. Hell's Greatest Dad has so many vibes from Friend Like Me. More Than Anything is a great ballad and Didn't You Know is epic, Adam and Lute are just worse.

Ugh, that Vaggie being a excorsit/angel reveal has divided so many HB fans. It actually made the fandom even more toxic than it already was before and caused quite a few people to just stop watching.
Why? Vivzie said for years that Vaggie was a sinner, a moth demon. She had a whole backstory and death was themed in suicide. People even paid for lore about her in Q&A's. So for all that to be reconned and thrown out? Yeah, not many were happy.
