So the thing that gets me about Poison is that you see flashes of Angel looking concerned or in pain. But then in a blink he puts a smile on and pretends he's enjoying himself. But we know he's not, he really is in extreme pain and now we can't trust that any of his smiles or jokes are real. He says it himself "I got so good at bein' untrue I got so good at tellin' you what you wanna hear I disassociate, disappear Yeah, yeah, yeah"
Alastor isn't at the hotel because Husk is, it's the other way round. Alastor is at the hotel for some unknown reason and he brought Husk and Nifty to work as staff there because he owns their souls.

What I always loved about Poison is that most of the other songs in the series are largely framed as musical pieces; they're all the kind of broadway-esque narratively driven numbers that you'd imagine hearing onstage, rather than on the radio. But Poison is the only song that really sounds like a mass-appeal Top 40 radio hit. It's an upbeat, superficially peppy pop banger, with spirited singing, and lyrics vague and repetitive enough to veil the real meaning of the song. If you didn't know english, you probably wouldn't have any idea just how dark it really is - it's a perfect reflection of Angel; it hides all of it's darkness behind a lively, confident presentation, and only reveals it's real nature once the mask is taken off, right at the end. The exact opposite of _all_ the other numbers, which are all open and unfiltered expressions of the respective characters' emotions. It's just all so... _brilliant._
Love that Joey says he DOESNT wanna hear the eggbois sing but the VA is the same for Angel and the eggs 😂 Adam is also the voice of sir pentious, vaggie is Mirabel (Encanto) and Rosa (Brooklyn 99) and husk is dr facillier (princess and the frog)
Angel's relationship with Valentino is unfortunately based on a real relationship the creator experienced. It's speculated that he got tangled up in it because they started out like an actual relationship, but via coercion and manipulation once Angel signed the contract and owned Angel's soul there was no reason for Val to keep up any pretense and treat him like anything other than property. It's really messed up but it happens in real life all the time.

Every time I watch the reaction to this episode and hear people call "Poison" the best song, I sarcastically say, "You haven't gotten to "Loser, Baby" yet" and smile with satisfaction when everyone gets high on it at the end

No worries about bopping to "Poison" while watching the context happening around it. I had to pause "Poison" once it finished and just digest the jarring juxtaposition (jarring juxtaposition was done very well, imo) for a while when I first watched it blind. Tbh, I'd say that we're supposed to feel conflicted watching the "Poison" music video since the song is so boppy and fun, but the actual animation is exclusively Angel Dust trying his damndest to survive a grueling shift he absolutely hates.
Man this episode hit home to the core 😭 my spider boi deserves better and not the amount of abuse from a moth. I hope next episode bring some lifting as the music in the next one going to bring some amazing visuals to vocals to make you shock by the talent someone bring to the table
