I am 100% with you Lyle. If we're going to trade Castillo then I would rather get a Matt Shaw, or Colby Mayo and then use the money to pay first base. Wild card is getting Roki to fill for Castillo. This seems like best way to fill most spots. Also, I would expect trade and signings to happen in a flurry. I also don't think anything is happening till Roki has eliminated many teams and close to Jan 15. We're in for a long wait
I use to live in Kirkland years ago. I’ve hiked a lot of the routes. The Mail Box being one of them. All challenging in their own way. 👍 I’ve got the chills though. Jerry just signed a backup catcher. 🥶
A bullpen/depth move we should make with Atlanta would really help. Braves get: Saucedo, Thornton, Canzone, Rivas, Ford, Joyce Mariners get: Bummer, Alvarez Jr, Baldwin, Williams We add 3 million in salary for a good lefty reliever. Alvarez and Williams are promising names to add to the infield mix. Baldwin also takes Ford's eventual backup spot to Cal. The Braves do this for the upside of Ford, hoping he can be big for them. I'd like a move like that, then we should target Doyle, McMahon, and Vodnik from Colorado. Release or trade Haniger with a prospect to get out of that contract. Sign Santana and Sasaki and we're good to go.
Lots of talk about having to overpay hitters to come to T-Mobile. What top 5 pitchers would you try to entice to come to seattle cheaply (and probably on a pillow/bounceback deal)?
@@jordanwithers992 Maybe throwing in a prospect would make it more realistic. Ozzie does have some injury issues the past few years. Hard to say. We just need something to happen soon before were stuck with the same lineup ...
@sambogle1845 yeah he does have some IL stint history but he is only costing them 7 million a year and doubt they have a replacement of his caliber as an Ms fan of course I'd do it though
Lyle, when are you taking over for Salk on the 710 show? Every time he teases you, I think, Marine Layer Podcast is better! Haha. TJ, where can I buy that hat!?
Mariners have a jett williams unproven type with some upside in the field and base path with ryan bliss. Not saying hes a top tier but hes an athlete. Mariners need a 2nd baseman but no reason bliss cant make this roster and platoon and contribute like a Caballero did a few years back. Trading for a 3rd baseman makes the most sense for this team but other teams value their prospects more than jerry does and want to offer dog shit for castillo whos arguably a top 20 30 pitcher in baseball easy
@@khure711 he brings a lot to the table with his speed and surprising power. If he can be a little more contact oriented in seattle i think he could really do well. Just needs time and reps
Baty is a good player . Think the pressure of being viewed as the next replacement for david Wright and it got to him. Vientos is pretty much untouchable.
@MarineLayerPod lol, I think he hit a hr his first major league ab . Think baty better off on a smaller market team . Mauricio is def more major league ready to be an everyday third baseman even tho he's hurt. If McNeil is in the trade the mets gunna have to eat a large amount of his contract to move him since he was awful and hurt last year. Even tho castillo has a no trade clause, I think Seattle has the upper hand to any Castillo trade due to the high demand of starting pitching currently.
Agreed, the Cubs are NOT going to trade Kyle Tucker to Mariners. Even if by some crazy twist of fate they were to acquire him at the deadline, the price to acquire him for two months would be incredibly expensive. You know this ownership should never give Tucker what he could get from 5 or 6 other teams. Lyle, I like your enthusiasm, but you know the score with this team…we’re doomed…it sucks.
Obviously, you guys recorded this podcast episode before Cody Bellinger was traded to the Yankees. I feel like the Bellinger trade not only decreased the small possibility of Kyle Tucker being traded to Seattle, but it also significantly decreased the possibility of a trade with the Chicago Cubs this offseason. I'm now curious to see which way the Seattle front office will go now to fill second and/or third base.
If anything the Bellinger trade should show is that for a good player making about market price on his contract, teams arent trading anything of value. So when you get these podcasts saying no to offers like McNeil + Jett Williams + Ronny Mauricio for Luis Castillo and only Luis Castillo, you just have to laugh. The Mets wouldn't even offer that, for 1. And 2, there's no shot the Mariners could do better. "The one prospect with in reason would be Mayo." Really all you need to know about the realistic aspect of this podcast.
If the Cubs start losing this year, then yes, you are right that the odds of Tucker being traded to the M's are much better with the Cubs than the Astros. I guess we'll see what the Cubs decide to do for the rest of the offseason, though, because it kinda looks like they're gearing up to win more games. I'm just frustrated that the M's have done nothing of significance so far, and I feel like they might continue down this path of listening and not take any action until the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes has concluded.
I just don't see the Mets as a good trade candidate. Mets fans think a package of McNeil / Baty is enough to get Castillo. That's not even close. And Dipoto is not looking for unproven prospects. Don't see this as a good trade fit.
When ownership said they would invest in the team once the smoke cleared and the rebuild was done........they NEVER meant it. it was to once again trick fans and keep them from jumping ship. Thats all it was. Thats all it EVER is. They will hoodwink every last fan and get every last cent each and every fan has to give. And with NO interest in investing in winning a championship. This is why I didn't go to one game last year. And won't go to one game this year. It's the same reason so many of my friends and family won't go to a game. I barely watch on TV and am no longer angry when they lose. I am still a fan but it's not the same anymore. The window is WIDE open right now. They have about 3 years and then the window will probably shut as the pitchers will need to get paid. And what if the hitters in the minors don't reach their potential? Or can't hit in our ballpark? The window could be shut for a long time. This franchise has NEVER had such an opportunity to win the division. To contend for a legitimate championship. Winning a championship would create thousands and thousands of new Mariner fans. Winning a title would rejuvenate every fan that is or was ever a fan. The time is NOW. Winning 54% and being alive down the stretch most seasons without a real chance to bring home a WS championship won't do ANY of that. I have lost interest. But then again.......winning 54% of the games isn't putting money in MY pocket.....so I guess thats why.
Mariners should trade Castillo and a good prospect for a young high quality hitter and a relief pitcher, then use money savings for 1-2 quality free agents…but they lack vision Also, trade Haniger and throw away a prospect too, just to dump that salary Especially if they get Roki
Sorry TJ this roster doesn’t win the West if they hit. They have 0 3B on the roster and don’t have an everyday 1B or 2B(unless Cole Young is ready ) They need to sign Santana or turner and go get Bohm. The bullpen is still questionable with no solid lefty in the pen. Hate to say it but I think Texas wins the west. They had a down year offensively but Yung and Carter should both be back healthy, they were a big part of the rangers WS run.
@ I think they need somehow acquire Bohm. They have a good amount of middle prospects they all aren’t going to pop or have room to Play on the big league roster. Sign Santana or Turner at 1B. A Raley/Gaver platoon at DH would be pretty solid. Lefty arm would solidify that pen. They also need a lefty OF, just in case Robles turns back into a pumpkin which I think can easily happen. That’s why Belli was such a good fit could have been the 1B and play OF when needed and the Yankees got him for a reliever smh. But that’s what happens when you have ownership isn’t serious about winning
@ on the pitching side they do but Texas has easily the best offense and they aren’t scared to add the necessary pieces at the deadline where Seattle always has ownership crippling them due ownership only caring about the bottom line.
Mariners should trade Castillo and cal Raleigh plus cole Emerson and for Baltimore Orioles Adly rutchsman and gunner Henderson. Sign roki, Santana. This will help both side
Agree with Lyle that Tucker WILL be a Mariner...in 2039 on a 1 year deal when he's 42, to DH.
