I certainly want Pete back. I hope he comes back. But I also hope the contract negotiations don’t create any acrimony. I think club culture was a big part of the Mets’ success last year, so I want Pete back AND happy.

Absolutely. That chemistry was key to their success. Reminded me of the 04 Red Sox. When the relationship with Nomar soured over trade rumors during off season and they struggled until they eventually had to offload him mid season because his presence was making the clubhouse toxic. (He had every right to feel angry btw) But to your point keeping that relationship with ownership and the team solid is ultimately more important than the numbers.

Exactly bro. Hes the best we ever produced (I know I know wright) but this isn’t a good look for the kids in the minors). I can see them saying we all break our backs for the team and we can be the top of the heap and get played. But a FA gets 800M. They aren’t the same but it does reflect poorly.

If Pete wants to be here, he will and it’s in his best interest to do so. A chance to win and increase his stats. The Mets do have the upper hand though, with the market as it is, and the fact that there may be interest in a bridge first baseman to get to Vlad next year.

    • @Dan-tt8sn

I am a Mets fan, but think he would get more from the Yankees for several reasons.
      1. He will probably hit 50 home runs in front of judge.
      2. They’ll probably offer him more money.
      3. The Yankees will also be a better team than the Mets if the Mets lose Alonso and the Yankees gain him.
      4. Their pitching is much better.
      5. Chisholm, Bellinger, Alonso, Judge, Stanton would be more feared than Lindor, Soto, Vientos, Nimmo.
      6. They are a shoe in to get to the WS again with that pitching and lineup, especially if the yanks grab Bregman too.
Big mistake for the Mets if they let that happen. Worst move since Nolan Ryan and Jeff Kent trades. Ugh

Just give him a fair contract.....no reason to play hardball with a guy that's been a meaningful run producer and home run hitter since the day he arrived. Enough.... already.....we all know he didn't have his best last year but he still hit 34 and drove in close to 90. You crank out 765 for Soto and you can't give this guy 30 percent of that??? It's not a good look......if they play him out and decide they're not going to sign him it's not going to sit well in the clubhouse or with the fans. His AVAILABILITY is his biggest asset and it says a lot...... do you see how many highly desired players are missing games these days??? Not Pete....he's a GAMER.

Pete & Boras obviously miscalculated the value when refusing the METS pre-2024 season offer and having Pete play it out in 2024....Sometimes you win, other times you lose...METS should just offer him $1 million total deal less to save face and offer Pete a hefty front-end signing bonus as part of the overall deal to allow Pete & Boras to save face...

If the Mets sign Roki Sasaki hypothetically, that means they’re out of Elian Peña correct? He’s the #2 prospect in the international class this year and they have a verbal agreement with him for $5 mil. I have nothing to back this up but I can see that kid becoming a stud, if they miss out on sasaki I wouldn’t be upset and if they still snag him

They don’t get Pete back and I’m not watching. I’ve heard a lot of fans say this, so I’m not alone here. Pete is being greedy and the Mets are being stubborn. It’s not even fun to watch these billionaires play baseball anymore.

  • @PaperRaines
    @PaperRaines 2 часа назад

It's crazy that because of the signings of Jose Lindor and Juan Soto for over a billion dollars, people are almost completely unaware of another nine figure contract with the Mets. They already signed Brandon Nimmo a 8 year $160M contract, then he promptly went out and batted . 220 😳
The Mets may be rich, but signing another aging and underperforming hitter for another hundred million dollars is insane. Move Vientos to first base and give Brett Baty a chance to find himself in this new lineup
Honestly, I want Pete back, but he'd need to get realistic about his performance and market value. The Mets are trying to become a new kind of franchise, they can't get the reputation of the place for anybody to come and fleece them for big deals. That's the road back to mediocrity

You may be right, although I'd say $27ish is more in line for Pete...I think Vladdy Jr is here for Opening Day 2025...1) He has no interest in remaining in TOR & 2) Jayz get nothing if they don't trade for him before, or during 2025...But, at the mid-season MLB Trade Deadline, the Jayz recover less in exchange than doing a deal in this off-season...Vladdy probably commands somewhere around $400ish for 12 years...I don't think he quite gets to $40mil AAV, but he could...??!!

Unless traded, we have a lefty first baseman in Clifford with real pop that I think Stearns is going to keep an eye on.

Brandon Nimmo already fleeced the Mets for $160M, but nobody notices because they signed Lindor and Soto for a billion dollars. That was a heist, and the Mets aren't trying to look like a sucker franchise that just hands out monopoly money to anybody
They've learned from Scherzer and Verlander, sometimes the best deal is the one you don't make. I want Pete to come back, but if he's hell bent on a nine figure contract, that will need to be somewhere else

He’s been declining for 3-4 seasons straight. His RBI, slugging percentage, OPS, total bases, and WAR have all gone down 3-4 seasons in a row and his strikeouts have gone up 3-4 seasons in a row. People have this ridiculous idea it was just the contract season. He’s been declining consistently.

Pete = 105% - 110% of Matt Chapman's Boras-negotiated mid-season 6 Year deal @ $151 million...Puts Pete @ $166 - $174 for 6 Years...Stats align with these figures since BA is similar, but Pete is far ahead in HRs & OPS and ahead in RBIs...Chapman is two-time Gold Glove @ 3rd base, whereas Pete is a decent 1st base glove, hence the 105% - 110% estimation...Since Boras reps both Chapman & Pete, a deal along these lines should get done
