The thing that makes Sam the best is his passion for the team. His excitement, frustration, disappointment, and all the raw emotion is heard and connects with fans. He is the connection from the Original 6 to the current game.
Sam is the best ever. Ran into him at a baggage claim at Newark Airport a few years ago. Didn't want to bother him, so just casually said "Lets Go Rangers" as me and my girlfriend passed by. He was so gracious and obviously passionate about the game, he stopped and talked with us for like 5 minutes about the Rangers and hockey in general. Being a fan since I was 5 (i'm 39 now), Sam is the only voice I know for the Rangers and was a huge thrill and honor to get a chance to talk to him, even just for a few minutes. Imo, there will never be anyone better.
@ you must not be on Twitter LOL there has been a sect of the Rangers fanbase who complains about every time he misspeaks or messes up a name, you name it.
My father and I never really got along. He was a very cold and emotionless Italian New Yorker raised by Depression era Italian immigrants, so he was not one for excitement or gaiety. One thing we did share was our love of hockey and our love of the New York Rangers. I will never forget how happy he was when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994. And I will never forget hearing Sam Rosen at the end of that game. My dad and I haven't talked in 10 years but every time I hear his game 7 call call, I remember that time my dad was so happy he was jumping on the couch. I'm choking up a little bit just thinking about this. Thank you for everything Sam. You are a legend
It's really upsetting that Sam Rosen will be retiring at the end of this year. It's upsetting because of how much we love him, and how much he cares about the Rangers. It's so obvious that he has so much love and care for the team and the players and the fanbase and the organization, it's really affected us greatly. Growing up and listening to his calls, you'd never think for a second that you'd ever hear another voice calling the Rangers games. Sam Rosen you have all of our love and respect, and we wish you the best in retirement
Have enjoyed Sam and his work for a long long time. His passion for the game, the players and fans has always been on full display. I wish him well in retirement! Can empathize with him for sure. As you get older family, if you are fortunate, becomes more and more important! Bless you Sam! In a way I feel For him working with Michiletti, who comes off as almost disliking the Rangers and loving and recognizing whoever they are playing as so much better. He speaks over Sam and I am always tickled when Sam reminds him of what the NYR are doing right. Would love to see Kenny Albert and Brian Boyle become the new power voice duo of the NYR!! All the best Sam!
Rangers fans have to be able to hear the difference in other teams commentators when you are used to hearing the class and honesty of Sam Rosen. He’ll never embarrass himself by saying on a nationally televised game “all I can say is absolutely wow” like some silly pants commentator I shall not mention. So grateful I got to listen to Sam all these years. Still got lots of games to enjoy this season!
I’m only a young fan been a fan since 2003 when I started playing hockey as a goalie. And I was devastated when Doc retired because of the color and excitement he brought to calling games and it will be just as sad to see Sam retire. Same year as John sterling. Two of the most important broadcasters in my life and very thankful for the time I had to listen to both
I've been a Ranger fan for as long as I can remember. I was in high school when we won the cup in 1994. It's not going to be the same watching games without him.
I used to hear Sam do the weekend news on WNEW AM radio. That was in the late 1970’s. He was terrific at that job, and at everything he has ever done. “It’s a power play goal!”
My NYR memory of announcers goes back to Jim Gordon and the Bill ‘The Big Whistle’ Chadwick and earlier. Loved those two especially Bill. Sam Rosen and Joe Micheletti (and John Giannone) are consummate sports announcers in that there is no mistaking their affiliation but they call good and fair games. To this day I cannot watch (or listen to) the majority of team announcers because invariably they are calling a game different from what is taking place on ice. I wish Sam and his family only the very best. We all will miss him greatly. Look forward to hearing him for the rest of the season. Sam, you’ve been my voice of the Blueshirts. You are family. Thank you.
Great interview. Sam is a legend. He will be missed. Always stops and talks to Rangers fans wherever he is. He was referring to a brawl at end of Islanders-Rangers April 5 1990. Nick Vukota pummeled Jeff Bloemberg in one of few fights at the buzzer.
This was perfect. What an awesome interview. Sam is a true legend and his voice is synonymous with Rangers hockey. It was special hearing Hank and Sam share memories of their experiences over the years. Congratulations on an absolutely epic career, Sam! Thanks for capturing all the special NYR moments in such perfect fashion. You will sorely missed after you retire.
Sam Rosen is amazing. I am a huge huge fan of his. when the broadcast is on another channel, it really bothers me. In the playoffs when he’s not calling it it really bothers me.Sam, I couldn’t thank you anymore for all the wonderful calls. You are my favorite. and such a sweet man also.💙💙💙
As for Sam having harsh moments, often he would not tolerate happy talk when the Rangers were struggling.. On occasion Joe Micheletti would do that and Sam would call him out on it, but that doesn't happen much any more, when the Rangers aren't playing well, Joe and Sam are not shy in saying so and its appreciated!
Of course I remember before Sam with Jim Gordon and Bill "shoot the puck Barry Beck" Chadwick.. But Sam is the voice I always hear when I remember the great Ranger years and plays and the now 30 years ago with Messier. Your voice will be sorely missed, and I really wished Sam was broadcasting during the playoffs.. having to watch tnt or espn is too brutal and I have to put the radio on to save my ears! And sadly today, if the Rangers were to go to the cup final, it wouldnt be Sam on the tv broadcast, let alone the Matteau goal which I remember actually jumping straight up out of my chair on that goal! Finally, thank you Sam, I wish you a great retirement from the Rangers!
I’m with you Sam….I’d love to take that guitar off Henrik’s hands. First trip to MSG at 7 years old was in 1965, Ed Giacomin was in goal and they lost to the then Minnesota North Stars 1-0 on a goal by Bill Goldsworthy…. I won’t ever forget it!
Just feel bad for Sam. I remember when the season started we all felt this could be the year because the boys were telling us that they learned so much from the Florida series and that they could address/adjust. But now… ..his final year, after giving half his life for this organization and the Rangers are giving him THIS type of play! The entire core just crumbling into a shell of themselves. Shame cause Sam certainly deserves better ESPECIALLY considering his passion for this team/organization!!🙄😫🤬
Jeff Bloemberg is the defensemen who Sam can;'t recall. MIck Vukota of the Isles jumped Bloemberg at the end of a playoff game. I think Bloemberg was a pacifist and wouldn't fight. Vukota was a jerk off anyway. We'l miss you, Sam!
Let's win one for Sam! This team is so ungrateful, so selfish, so spoiled, they don't even try anymore. Let's win one for the gipper! Come on! They need to find that fire!
Watching a game without Sam will never feel right. Thank you Sam

Know several people who can tell similar stories.
I hate people who complain about Sam (mostly young folks in recent years). I am cherishing every moment.
What is there to possibly complain about Sam Rosen???

@@TheEsquireOfSportsFSU I AM on Twitter but I guess I just haven’t dove into the Sam Rosen haters realm 😂

im an islanders fan and the word class isnt a big enough description to describe this great man and legend
Sam.....even in Scotland, you are a proper legend. I will sorely miss your commentary after this season. All the best 👍 LGR
Thank you Sam for being the greatest to do this job. You have been apart of our lives for so many years. Truly deserves all the accolades.

At this point I'd rather Sam Rosen be on PP1 over 93. Love you Sam!
I remember meeting him with some other Ranger fans in Ottawa and he gave us a shout out in the telecast.

Sam is like the uncle I've had for 30 years but never met in person.
Grew up with Sam and JD
Thanks for doing this
Doc.. Sam. And a few others I grew up with
And this one will last a lifetime
Being a Devils fan, Doc Emrick will always be my G.O.A.T. Sam has always been a class act and calls the game as it is. He will be missed.

My favorite Ranger announcer is JD #BQQM
Sam is the goat❤️
❤
I hope Sam Rosen has a son who sounds exactly like him to take his place.
Great podcast. I'm a big fan of Sam Rosen and he's one of the best broadcaster in this league. Truly gonna miss him after he retired this season🥲
40 years, jezzz. And only one Stanley Cup. Maybe the Rangers will get it done this season for him😢

54 YEAR'S
I'll remember I lived to see you retire......
Jeff Bloemberg was the young Dman who took a beating that caused Sam to get on Al Arbour.
34:00 Sam is right...WOW! 111 PPG's that year (1987-88). This guy is still too sharp to retire. We need to ban his retirement.
Once Sam retires just bring JD back lol. Problem solved 😎
The King Of No Cups
