    As a 26 year old kpop stan, I think its fair to assume that most of the kpop stans trying to cancel these idols are either minors and/ or have never watched a single anime in their lives AND dont know how to differentiate fiction from reality because my time line was a hell hole for a whole 24 hours

    • @xindanobody8591
      @xindanobody8591 10 месяцев назад +92

      Not just anime, sadly, because it started crossing into (like shown here, and what I saw through the meltdown that day) - any form of fiction (live action, book, manga, anime - etc) that had that sort of stuff. Majority of whom I saw (both in KPOP twt and anitwt) were all around the ages of young teens (as in just allowed to use twt unless they're younger than that) to young adults (low to mid 20s at most).
      I was so glad that on my actual TL either people didn't know anything about it or were pissed that people couldn't separate fiction/reality (as you said).

      trust me most of these people trying to cancel were just basically misandrists waiting for something more reasonable to hate men, they're girl group stans, ofc not all of them hate men but a good part of them does and they really awful things, even troll accounts took advantage of these situations, i think someone even might have got doxxed because they said they shouldn't be called pedos, it's really crazy, but the scandal started from korean fans of txt soobin who found something more reasonable to criticize him rather than for his recent scandal (doing the middle finger with his toes to another idol, on a private live that got leaked, also not recent) and then it got here

Stan twt is a shit hole where people will do anything to find dirt to expose idols they hate. I am telling you this is absolutely zero about morals and 100% having something so they can cancel an idol and justify sending them hate. Usually cancelling an idol would involve actual crimes in korea like drugs or sex trafficking. Nowdays they just grab something with the slightest bit of gray moral and exaggerated in a way that's damning for the idol. This extreme moral policing and holier-than-thou attitute kpop stans have is not about actually believeing it's wrong but just to justify hate.

      It took a member of a group I loved leaving the group because of some fake accusations by toxic fans for me to stop using kpop twt. It was so toxic. Idols Like Soobin tend to get into situations that get blown out of proportion, things get pulled out of context and they are expected to be perfect and only consume content that is clean. I have been in multiple arguments with people whose arguments have been 100% proven wrong by ACTUAL sources such as authorities, and they just disregard it entirely and will still continue hating on the person. from what I've observed, a lot of the loud newer/younger kpop fans LOVE to act "holier than thou," ESPECIALLY when it comes to groups they don't like. there's this whole "my faves aren't problematic but yours are" thing going on, and it's continuously gotten worse over the years now that kpop isn't a niche interest. that word, "problematic," is thrown around _a LOT._ this just seems to be an extension of that. somebody didn't like TXT, so they found an interest of one of the members that could be seen as "problematic." somebody didn't like NCT so they found an interest of one of the members that could be seen as "problematic." and so on, and so on. there also seems to be a group of western kpop fans who _really_ want to prove that they themselves are just _so much better_ than the average Korean. like... so much more "woke," but they _think_ they mean the actually good version (i.e. "racism and homophobia are bad"), but they fall into the bad version (i.e. "liking a dark show makes YOU bad") by trying so hard to prove it. they _look_ for reasons to put themselves on a pedestal, so they continuously lower the bar for what is considered "problematic."

      oh! I just remembered that I have a recent example of some kpop stans making up issues! there's a recent song by a male artist featuring a female artist that I was watching a lyric video of. there were only three commenters: two praising the song and congratulating the artists on a job well done, and one yelling at the video creator and the other two (both in direct replies and their own comment) to quit shipping the two artists. literally _nobody_ there was shipping them, and I have yet to see _anyone_ ship them. I replied basically telling them to knock it off, wondering if maybe there was one or two since-deleted comments shipping them that had set them off. but, in my youtube notification of their reply, their name was shown as "f*** [group name] and their stupid [fandom name]" and suddenly _it all made sense._ they're just the type of stan to do that sort of thing.

      Yeah, not even just being morally righteous. There's def been a huge change in how kpop stans behave overall. Back when it wasn't as popular like 2nd gen, the fandom kept to themselves. They weren't trying to interact with other non-kpop fandoms or even think of spamming memes or videos of their fav idols. But like now fans will straight up go onto ppl's unrelated tweets or like tragedy posts and be like "should've stanned -KPOP band here-" or even photoshop memes or videos that honestly make the idol look horrible (like I think Loona had something similar. The group did nothing wrong, the fandom just made a meme where they seemed like a member had beef with a western artist idr) and I was like....outsiders are now gonna hate your group now why???? inside the fandom knew it was a meme but outsiders aren't gonna understand because it's obviously not outrageous enough to be like wow that'd never happen if they don't know that it's a kpop idol who has never met a western artist before.
      I think the change in behavior was really lead by being influenced by unfortunately kind loud but weird older fans while the ones that are more logical and reasonable and not holier than thou with egos or seek out like being a popular fan amongst fans kind of kept to themselves or outgrew being in the kpop fandom and just enjoyed the music. Some kpop fans were always weird but like....the I remember when kpop idols used to visit CA and Disneyland and just got to be normal ppl in foreign countries. But now they can't go anywhere without being stalked and mobbed. We used to be like damn korean saesaeng/stalker fans are crazy and there was no real notable cases of such behaviors internationally in 2nd gen. But now it's like there's sasaengs everywhere.

Most of these guys lack the ability to have a deeper understanding, because their brain hasn't been fully developed yet. When I see the younger generation of K-pop fans are loud and obnoxious, my reaction is mostly: y´all need to sit down! Your brain is fully developed until you are 26. And from what I have observed in the world in general, this is not only a K-pop issue. The younger generation in general is like this. When I see them calling out "problematic" issues, I just can't take it seriously.

    Hi, Korean American here. You're correct about the word "fun" being an awkward translation. The original word Soobin uses in that quote is a form of "재미있다" - which can mean "enjoyable" or "interesting." It's not exactly incorrect to translate it to "fun," but it oversimplifies the speaker's original intent based on context.

I really want to see studies and video essays years from now talking about how gen z/alpha swung too far into purity culture. It could just be issues with being chronically online, it could be the holier than thou attitude the younger gens seem to have. Idk but I promise we're all not like this lol
    I will say its funny that most of them stopped talking once a girl group member was found to also support this show. There is a huge issue with boy group fans vs girl group fans online and I wish it would just stop. It's as stupid as fans vs fans.

    • @cinnamonroll96
      @cinnamonroll96 10 месяцев назад +40

      not to be that person but i would say made in abyss is a lot more disturbing let's be honest. if kids are a part of something horrible it's always worse.
      Edit: Also I don’t think that people have a problem with traumatizing, messed up twisted stories in general. But rather the execution or inclusion of some forms of violence and shock factors, especially if kids are involved.
      Also I think if I saw some random scene of squid game without context, just someone being dead, that wouldn’t disturb as much. Maybe seeing the minutes up to the death yeah. But I think anime can create images and visual horror in only pictures that live action hardly can achieve. I think seeing some and more scenes or pictures of made in abyss out of context and without knowing what it is would shock me to my core.
      Those shows are just disturbing for different reasons. And I think both are very hard to stomach but one is just worse bc of animation, bc of kids and bc of scenes with kids that even in this story shouldn’t be there (and that is the real problem of those ppl).

    • @kpopnimation
      @kpopnimation 10 месяцев назад +55

      @@cinnamonroll96 what makes Made in Abyss more disturbing besides the characters being kids? • @cinnamonroll96
      @cinnamonroll96 10 месяцев назад +11

      @@kpopnimation I think that’s exactly it. The fact that these characters are kids make it more disturbing. I don’t know the glory. But squid games is about something disturbing, messed up and mentally just twisted. I still would say the things you see are just more disturbing for a lot of ppl. A lot more to stomach, bc of all the mind-destroying shit you watch, the gore and all this. And this in combination with kids going through it, makes the already very messed up shit even worse. I think you can’t just say what about it besides the characters being kids. It’s exactly that. They are kids. And some scenes just even if you make a show that wants to just destroy someone that watches it, and intends to disgust and all this, some things just don’t need to be there, especially with kids. Edit (to clarify): The show and story with the kids would have been just as creepy and messed up without some of these scenes.

So imagine as a middle schooler you had a crush on like a high school aged dude, that's fine because it's a crush. But then it's been several years and now you're an adult...."you're not allowed to like them anymore!" That literally doesn't make sense. Minors who are calling out adults for this just are too young to understand that'll happen to them too. And that's how they get shocked when they turn 20 and someone uses the same argument against them. Like....dude they're anime characters who can't get hurt. Majority of ppl who like anime characters aren't gonna chase a minor. It's just majority of mainstream mangas and animes main characters are still in school. (Ppl who obviously....like minors are different but you can tell if they're a weirdo or not)
      Example: I literally thought Denki from CSM was gonna be revealed to be like 19+ like he went through a whole childhood with no education because that is tragic af and make him desiring to touch a boob, get a girlfriend, etc even sadder. But then they were like he's 16 and I was like.....oh. Still sad but 2% less tragic in my head.

Meanwhile, they treat real people as if we’re fictional, throwing slurs and sui baits and perish/dox/non-con threats. It’s a whole mess that makes you wonder where tf did it go oh so wrong?
    This “controversy” should never have happened. But all because some kids (and, embarrassingly enough, adults, usually younger) can’t be bothered to treat fiction as fiction and mind their own business about people’s preferences.

    Hi, let me say something as a MOA (name of TXT and Soobin's fandom)… I want to make it clear that the majority of people who criticized and tried to massive cancel Soobin was actually antis and haters who already didn't like TXT itself and who used this to took advantage of the “bad” situation of “hate train” and make him “cancellable” and with this tarnish his image and drag him and the entire TXT group. We MOAs immediately went after to know about everything as soon as this appeared on our timeline… many moas looked for ALL informations about the anime, tried to learn things and search for everything about and even many moas decided to watch the anime themselves to be able to have ownership when explaining and talking about the anime. Most of the MOAs, TXT’s fandom, we didn't give hate and we didn't cancel Soobin because we had the discernment to understand and learn about everything and we actually did this, we’re able to see immediately the distortions on the words used by Soobin and able to see that they were causing all of this with the intention of drag him. MOAs discovered in the end that all of this was intentionally distorted and actually created/fabricated by haters and antis of TXT and thus managed to make kpopers (that already didn’t like TXT before) to bite this hate bait just to have fun canceling him… kpopers haters didn’t care about anything people were explaining and clarifying about the anime and everything. But the thing is the fandom of TXT and Soobin and SOOOO MANY PEOPLE that is not even TXT’s fan and even you guys that loves animes actually debunked things about this controversy! Only the people that hates TXT are actually going on with this spreading distortion things.

    While I'm not fluent in Korean, Soobin used the verb 재미있다 which can be, and usually is, translated to mean "to be fun" but can also mean "to be interesting." Whether intentional or not (though I do have my own opinion) someone messed up the translation and made a bunch of foreign stans think that Soobin was calling the anime fun.
    What confuses me is that by getting super upset at these idols, we are implying that its unacceptable to consume media that tell stories that are dark and disturbing AND that by consuming that media we are condoning the messed up things portrayed in the media. I am not an anime fan at all, but I am a kpop stan and have been for almost 10 years and I can say that the community is full of extremely young and naieve women most of whom have a huge heart towards suffering and have been trained by the internet to be hyper reactionary when it comes to being defensive over groups of vulnerable people. However, when you walk around with a hammer everything starts to look like a nail. It is sickening the number of adult men that prey on underage folks, that is an absolute fact. I think though we all agree that the consumption of media that contains graphic scenes and messed up premices doesn't necessarily mean that you condone that character or that behavior. While I have absolute compassion for those who feel the need to stay on alert from creeps it is not okay to call people disgusting names over what is, at its core, a nothing burger

    I fought with my best friend because she didn't watch made in abyss but she was talking about it as if the whole series contained fetishes and sexual stuff...basing her arguments on some tweets she read...Like bruh if it was really like that do you really think I would have recommended it to you, let alone watch it and praise it like I did? What the fuck. She had the audacity to say "i wonder why people didn't talk about it before" and I said "because the anime community is chill [compared to the kpop community]" and she was like "well maybe I don't want to be chill about literal p*dop*rnography" and that's when I realised yet again just how immature some people can be

    as a huge kpop stan and an ult moa (txt/soobin's group is my favourite group, my pfp is a member from txt) i think this whole trend of puriteens deciding what's "okay" to watch and what's "problematic" to watch is just frustrating. with the explosion of social media and the internet, it feels like every single user is hyperaware of what they're watching just so they can make sure their slate is perfectly crisp and clean, out of fear of getting cancelled, and they lash out on other people out of self defense when they start getting scrutiny. soobin being the center of this was actually a cause of a known group of internet trolls, but it illuminates a huge fault in teens/young adults growing up on social media. people need to expose themselves to "problematic" media in general so they have a grasp of what their personal boundaries are, and those boundaries should stay personal!! not everyone can tolerate the same level of reprehensible media and that's okay!!! if your bias liking a certain kind of media has you in such arms, just unstan and move on with your life. the moment we as the consumer audience try to enforce "the line" of "what's right and what's wrong", we fall into censorship adjacent territories and it's like. get a life. move on. disconnect from the internet.
    tldr: you can't decide someone else's moral grounds, and trying to police it just makes you a cunt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ made in abyss is straight fire i would sell my pc set up to meet kevin penkin

    The controversy is dead now. An idol from a popular group was friends with a new idol who has been surrounded by controversy recently, and the way things move in the kpop community is once the floodgates open the internet people move like locusts devouring anything and everything that could put anyone under scrutiny. And this controversy was just another attempt at character defamation. This is how the community acts unfortunately and stuff like this happens all the time. There have been SO MANY idols that have been removed from their groups and had their careers ruined based off of literal rumors.

    TXT's Soobin is quite literally my favorite idol and I've also watched ALL of Made in Abyss (not to mention it is probably in my top 3 favorite anime), so its not an understatement to say that I was annoyed and confused asf whenever I saw this controversy pop up on my timeline. I mean there were SO many kpop stans (even my mutuals bc yes, unfortunately, I am on kpop twt) calling the people who watched the anime: ped*philes, misogynistic perverts and r*pe apologists. And these tweets had 30k-50k likes, like I was so astonished and extremely appalled that REAL people were saying this crap, agreeing, and throwing around those words like nothing. I just did not know how people with functional brains could output that watching an animated show = you support all of the content within it, agree with it, and exhibit those qualities in real like. Like WTF happened to yall's brain??? NORMAL PEOPLE can separate FICTION from REALITY. Human beings know what is right and wrong and just because you consume content that is problematic, does not mean you think it's correct. ts pissed me off so bad.
    Anyways, TXT will be the OST artists for the Solo Leveling anime so be sure to check it out once it releases.

    As a kpop stan and anime fan I would like to say I am not part of fandom that is canceling this idols for random reasons, not all of us are crazy like you think and some of us are actually adults. With that being said these idols can watch whatever anime they want like come on they are all adults not kids! Just because you watch something that deals with heavy topics/problematic actions doesn't mean you accept those actions! I mean look at the countless movies that deal with similar topic and a lot of people enjoy watching it and I don't hear people canceling someone because they enjoy that type of thing! My point is that this whole situation got way blown out of proportion!
