Great little review, I bought the G1W from your link and seem to have received a genuine one. Have had it 4 months now and had no issues whatsoever with it. The mount is still holding strong and hasn't budged since I first installed it 4 months ago. Am very impressed with the quality for the price and nearly never have to touch it. Following your advice about the mount feeling a bit easy to break, I generally don't remove the card or camera when downloading footage, I bought a long USB cable that i've neatly installed around the windscreen and goes into a Dual USB lighter socket which powers it like the normal power adaptor would. I can unplug the cable and plug it into my phone or tablet (Using a USB host cable) to download footage easily. I really recommend the setup.

Mine lasted 22 months of 24hr/day 7 days a week always on, running in my car before cam started malfunctioning. Temp extremes of 28 to 109 outside temps, obviously hotter than that in car many times. class 4, 32 gig micro sd card, was good for 6 hrs and change of looped recording, Paid $14 for card, $50 for cam and $3 for a rear view mirror bracket which holds camera so much more steady, and spares footage in event your suction cup pops off in a collision. for $67 I had great piece of mind for nearly 2 years while driving and while parked. Originally bought mine based on watching this video back then, will probably get another based on value/longevity
Mine lasted about 18 months. I have one sold under the Navig[8]r brand. Seemed to work ok at first. After a while it stopped recording at FHD, regardless of the settings when transferred to PC. Also stopped recording in the correct loop time. Just seemed to do random times of 5 seconds or a few minutes. I read the instructions and it turns out you can't use certain SD cards in it. Tried a different one but it made no difference. Night recording was way worse than on this video. Eventually it just stopped working from the power supply, but the camera will come on when plugged into a PC. Tried different supplies in the car, but I couldn't be bothered with it any more. Battery died also. Probably OK for a first dash cam, but in the long run probably worth investing that money in a better quality one.
Buy the G1W-C which stands for Capacitor. They have replaced the cheap battery with a Capacitor 1.5F. Now you don't to be afraid that the cheap battery will fail after 1 years or catch fire if you leave it on the hot sun in the summer.
came just to say this camera is the reason i won 80k settlement when someone t-bone me. girl was lying and witnesses were on her side because she was hot. told the cop while she was there listening with the witnesses " look everything they say is invalid" cop says " do you have proof?" Then i said " i have a dash cam"

Great video. It prompted me to order one. It came a few days ago and I am very pleased with it. However, you said to use class 4 or 6 memory as class 10 would not work. I ordered class 6 from another vendor but they sent class 10 by mistake. I tried the class 10 since I already had it. I guess they have upgraded the camera since you made this video because class 10 memory works perfectly. Thanks - John
After almost two years I can say this dash cam is still working well. Night recording on unlit roads is poor, as for the rest I am satisfied. I tossed the Power adapter and used a USB wire instead as the adapter was causing radio reception problems with marginal stations. I didn't know about the class 10 problem which may explain some issues I was having. I have found that the camera leaves one file per directory when over writing so you'll need to format the card from time to time. Also with straight usb power it will go to pc mode when you restart the car after stalling or not fully shutting off the ignition, just power it off for a few seconds to fix it. The mount I have is the ball style which works well, it just doesn't stay on at -30 but nothing stays on when it is that old. Audio on mine is good enough to hear the surrounding noises and conversations in the car. Given how well it has performed over the last two years, I'd say this is a keeper, get one for your kids car.
Bought this dash cam on your review and recommendation, it works perfectly, does exactly what it is sapposed to do, and easy to set up and forget it. Returned a GO PRO that just wouldn't work, bought this dash cam, am now happy.
Believe it or not, this is one of the best dash cam footages that I've seen in you're reviews. The video image is very clean as well as clear, and you can easily read registration numbers on cars. Cheers for this, I got 2 of these, the video quality is a match for much more expensive cameras, I already have a couple of cams, the video quality on this one is way ahead of what I have used in the past, gonna stick it in my electric car. Thanks for your reviews they are amazing and for the record I dont think you sound anything like James May who is from the other end of the country and has a very distinct west country twang! Bought this camera after watching this review close to a year ago. It worked great and randomly stopped working properly about a month or two ago. I recommend this camera for first-time dash cam buyers if you're toying with the idea of having one in your car. The quality seemed alright but lacked a little in dark settings. Great intro camera but I don't think I'd buy another.
I bought one of these about 6 months ago to put in my truck. It is my third dash cam and is by far the best one. In particular is the excellent night vision. The only things that have caused me any problems so far are just recently it will some times stop recording, and the mounting bracket only just bends round far enough to mount on the flat windscreen of the truck. It was money well spent for me.
Got same unit via Amazon, quick delivery, was a little bewildered with semi English instructions, but was able to set-up. After a couple of days played back the Micro SD on computer, very pleased so far.
I've recently purchased a GS8000L dash cam which was a good little unit, however it had a fault which prompted me to look into what other options were available. As most will know, decent reviews for budget cameras are difficult to come by, however your review has prompted me to by a G1W. Thanks for the good quality review!!
+Mark Bhalay My G1W-C is almost 2 years old now, it survived 2 winters (-20 to -40C) and 1 Texas summer without a single problem. Make sure you buy one from a reputable seller to avoid fake ones. You can also check my channel to see this dash cam video quality. Still the best dash cam under $50 now I believe.
I am pleased to say that after 9 months , this gem of a dash cam (Novatech G1W C) is still working well - and has not been affected by the hot and humid conditions here in Thailand.

After watching this, I went out and bought one. Mine came in the orange and white box labeled 'HD Blackbox' "Car DVR'. Its an incredible camera! I think you may have just gotten a bum unit, because the audio on mine is nice and clear. Thank you for the reviews, and I'll keep watching for new stuff!

I think I can beat you all... I bought mine after watching this review, and it is still working!! It is in my camper van, so it doesnt get used very often, but still, very good going!
I just purchased a Novatech G1W C on eBay, I was very careful to check the spec, and only considered units advertised as having NT96650 chip + AR0330 Lens. Theses were the most expensive G1W C Novatechs (45USD) , Lots of other G1W C Novtatechs advertised for as little as 25USD however the sellers made no mention of chip and lens type. I have to say I am delighted with this camera, it does everything I expected and more. My only worry is that sauna like conditions here in Thailand will kill it. Well done Techmoan, keep up the excellent work.

Thanks Techmoan, glad you made the review about it ^-^ Your G1W got a few different stuff than i had. I had a older firmware so the time and date stamp was on the left side, but it's also possible for me to add my Licenseplate as text or a name etc. Then i also got a different suction cup. With a better quality and this nut screw thingy to fix it compleately. Also a different box and a really great manual with colored pictures etc. Also the microphone in mine is also loud and clear. Curious point about NOT using class 10 cards I have had this issue with all the cheap n nasty dashcams where they just stop recording. I just wish there was a quality well built gopro ish dash cam. The market seems to be awash with some very nasty cameras that have very short lifespans. I'm starting to lose count of the dashcams I have had fail on me. As always with life it's by cheap..buy twice.

Your review helped me get it set up correctly as the instructions supplied are rather poor. I'm pondering whether to get the mini 803 with GPS for rear-view coverage as I have a spare 12v socket in the boot, but the mini 803 has some bad reviews on Amazon. I've watched quite a few of your reviews and find them informative and helpful. I particularly liked the response to the boring comment one - the party cracker made all the difference.

Just got me one of these Dash Cams and I must say.. it was a snap to get running... and recording.. the menu was simple to go through with your help that is... but I just put up my first video shot with it.. and can't wait to go to Yellowstone National Park with it.. I'm a little over a hours drive from there.. The mounting devise was a bit different.. mine has a swivel tightener.. The mount it'self is plastic.. as you said.. but if you take it slow and easy.. it should last .. fingers crossed.. I got mine in less than a week through Spy Tech... with shipping it was just over $70 USD... Thank you so much for the review.. I really needed to get me one.. and stop holding a camera and driving.. lol
I've just purchased this camera because of your review. I really like it. I will say that I got a 32 gig class 10 card for it and it seems to work fine with it. Now that I have this camera, I'm looking for one that will record out the front windshield and the rear window at the same time. One side note about the camera... The default menu setting was set to Chinese. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out the menu system to get it to go into English. That alone took me a little over 15 minutes.

Picked up one of these, for general purposes, this is a great camera. Does enough at night to keep you out of trouble if someone wants to lie about what happened during an accident or incident.
I have had my E-PRANCE for about 3 yrs. Bought it for a trip to Sioux Falls, SD. Followed up the next year to Disney World FL. It still works perfect. We would never leave home without it.

Yes the thing is all these cameras might have the same name and box but different pricing and different functions. There is no way of knowing if you have a crap version or not until you set it up and try to use it.
Hello from America and first off I want to congratulate you on this fine piece of carcam exposition. The wonderful videos only confirm to us in America that England is full of lovely villages. I will examine more of your videos as I have subscribed because I have questions about electrical hook-up, but can you tell me--does this company also make rear view car cameras, too?
Thanks for authoring this Channel. I've watched a few of your Videos and I'm going to subscribe. I did notice a couple of 'common themes' on your DashCam Videos. 1. The "G-Sensor" (you seem to always leave OFF) can deduce an impact or collision and will automatically record some seconds prior and after impact then save and lock this video file onto the SD Card. Another usage with better Software (and GPS Firmware) would usually be that the Device knows WHEN you turn a corner (otherwise the GPS would have to extrapolate the two lines derived from your course on the Map and assume that where they intersected is where you turned, which would not be very accurate). Also the G-Sensor would work correctly (assuming it was working at all) on round-a-bouts (a 'circle-turn', where you can not turn left (in North America, or (I presume) left in GB)). and the Device's Mapping Software ought to make a tiny 3/4 circle when you view the Map zoomed-in (this cheap Device no doubt has no such Software but better Devices would benefit from the G-Sensor being on). While the G-Sensor (if the Sensor Hardware is even present in the Device) marks the turn, of course the G1W does not seem to have GPS available so this particular Device is using the Firmware from a better Device (and in this particular case you can leave it off, otherwise it is better to have it on IF you have an integral GPS). In the case of the cheaper Device it is likely just a 'crash-sensor' and not a true "G-Sensor" (like most Mobile Phones have). 2. At 5:45 (and in MANY of your DashCam Videos) you mention that "I don't know how this is going to turn out on RUclips". It should be perfect; thats my answer. Check out a 3D Video I synthesized (using Computation Photography) from a DVD source (480P). Notice that the Audio Sync is perfect and the 3D Video (which you can watch in 2D if you do not have 'Cellophane Glasses' or a 3D TV) is pixel perfect and eyestrain free. I pride myself on making all my Videos reflect the quality of the Device being used as best as is possible; in the case of that Video it was created artifically with my Computer (from a 480P DVD source) and should be perfect when viewed at 1080P (or more if you have it). I am blown away at the quality of this camera. While you thought lackluster I thought the "direct into sunlight" capability was particularly good. NOW mind you I don't have thousands of dollars to test dozens of camera's so I am comparing it to $30 to $40 (25 pound??) camera's for me this camera at $60 to $70 is an EXPENSIVE camera to me. for the price very very impressive. as good as a marcus? hell no. but a fraction of the price too :-) I DO wish their was a cheap GPS (speed in video overlay) unit available with this units day/night capabilities. IE around $100. they DO make the G1W-C version which uses a capacitor. no issues with heat then (the battery is what dies in the heat) I still want a Marcus 5. badly. but I don't have $320 to spend on one :-)

A couple of notes after buying and using this same dashcam myself: 1. I use a SanDisk 32gb class 10 micro sd card. It records perfectly to that card. I also tried an older 8gb class 4 card. The 8gb card would only record for 5 - 10 seconds and then quit. I would guess that your issue with your class 10 card was just a fluke incompatibility (as was my 8gb card.) 2. My camera didn't darken the scene as much as yours under direct sunlight. I would think the WDR setting has something to do with this. I believe mine is set to off. 3. I used a Sharpie (black permanent marker) to darken the chrome ring around the lens. I also blacked out the white cover over the light since I don't see myself using the light ever. 4. This is a super dashcam regardless of the price.

One month and 3,000 km later in tropical conditions and this camera is still working impeccably. Brilliant !!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not, this is one of the best dash cam footages that I've seen in you're reviews. The video image is very clean as well as clear, and you can easily read registration numbers on cars. For the great price I can easily live with the negative factors of this camera. Thanks for the great review and Merry Christmas to you!
You should start your own dash cam brand/company. A lot of the brand are just lack of supports and updates. Not to mention quality....
Cheers for this, I got 2 of these, the video quality is a match for much more expensive cameras, I already have a couple of cams, the video quality on this one is way ahead of what I have used in the past, gonna stick it in my electric car.

Bought this camera after watching this review close to a year ago. It worked great and randomly stopped working properly about a month or two ago. I recommend this camera for first-time dash cam buyers if you're toying with the idea of having one in your car. The quality seemed alright but lacked a little in dark settings. Great intro camera but I don't think I'd buy another.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago to put in my truck. It is my third dash cam and is by far the best one. In particular is the excellent night vision. The only things that have caused me any problems so far are just recently it will some times stop recording, and the mounting bracket only just bends round far enough to mount on the flat windscreen of the truck. It was money well spent for me.

Got same unit via Amazon, quick delivery, was a little bewildered with semi English instructions, but was able to set-up. After a couple of days played back the Micro SD on computer, very pleased so far.
I've recently purchased a GS8000L dash cam which was a good little unit, however it had a fault which prompted me to look into what other options were available. As most will know, decent reviews for budget cameras are difficult to come by, however your review has prompted me to by a G1W. Thanks for the good quality review!!
+Mark Bhalay My G1W-C is almost 2 years old now, it survived 2 winters (-20 to -40C) and 1 Texas summer without a single problem. Make sure you buy one from a reputable seller to avoid fake ones. You can also check my channel to see this dash cam video quality. Still the best dash cam under $50 now I believe.
I am pleased to say that after 9 months , this gem of a dash cam (Novatech G1W C) is still working well - and has not been affected by the hot and humid conditions here in Thailand.

After watching this, I went out and bought one. Mine came in the orange and white box labeled 'HD Blackbox' "Car DVR'. Its an incredible camera! I think you may have just gotten a bum unit, because the audio on mine is nice and clear. Thank you for the reviews, and I'll keep watching for new stuff!
+McKinleyNine i've just been bought one as you have described. The instructions say it records .mov but i'm finding the files are .avi are you having the same issue? Also do you know if there is a button to press when you're driving to lock down a file rather than going into the menu etc?
Just ordered one of these cameras. I bought another camera you reviewed the SJ1000 it works great on my motorcycle unless the waterproof case fogs up! Now I will not have to keep moving camera from car to bike and back again. Thank you for your reviews.

My car is fairly new and within 5K miles already had several near misses avoiding mentally impaired drivers. Can't recommend enough.
I require a white van cam too.. In my rear hatch window. One with a directional GSM receiver would be nice so I can listen to them chunner on their mobile phones and collect their phone numbers.

I think I can beat you all... I bought mine after watching this review, and it is still working!! It is in my camper van, so it doesnt get used very often, but still, very good going!
I just purchased a Novatech G1W C on eBay, I was very careful to check the spec, and only considered units advertised as having NT96650 chip + AR0330 Lens. Theses were the most expensive G1W C Novatechs (45USD) , Lots of other G1W C Novtatechs advertised for as little as 25USD however the sellers made no mention of chip and lens type.
I have to say I am delighted with this camera, it does everything I expected and more. My only worry is that sauna like conditions here in Thailand will kill it.

Your G1W got a few different stuff than i had. I had a older firmware so the time and date stamp was on the left side, but it's also possible for me to add my Licenseplate as text or a name etc.
Then i also got a different suction cup. With a better quality and this nut screw thingy to fix it compleately. Also a different box and a really great manual with colored pictures etc.
Also the microphone in mine is also loud and clear.

Curious point about NOT using class 10 cards I have had this issue with all the cheap n nasty dashcams where they just stop recording. I just wish there was a quality well built gopro ish dash cam. The market seems to be awash with some very nasty cameras that have very short lifespans. I'm starting to lose count of the dashcams I have had fail on me. As always with life it's by cheap..buy twice.

Bought this after looking at your fine review and talking to a friend who has one in his car..Bought through Amazon and took about a week to come through. Your review helped me get it set up correctly as the instructions supplied are rather poor. I'm pondering whether to get the mini 803 with GPS for rear-view coverage as I have a spare 12v socket in the boot, but the mini 803 has some bad reviews on Amazon. I've watched quite a few of your reviews and find them informative and helpful. I particularly liked the response to the boring comment one - the party cracker made all the difference.

I am planning on getting dash cam for when I start driving since I started getting a slight fear of someone hitting me or jumping in a car I'm driving and blaming me for hitting them.

Just got me one of these Dash Cams and I must say.. it was a snap to get running... and recording.. the menu was simple to go through with your help that is... but I just put up my first video shot with it.. and can't wait to go to Yellowstone National Park with it.. I'm a little over a hours drive from there..
The mounting devise was a bit different.. mine has a swivel tightener.. The mount it'self is plastic.. as you said.. but if you take it slow and easy.. it should last .. fingers crossed..

I've just purchased this camera because of your review. I really like it. I will say that I got a 32 gig class 10 card for it and it seems to work fine with it. Now that I have this camera, I'm looking for one that will record out the front windshield and the rear window at the same time. One side note about the camera... The default menu setting was set to Chinese. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out the menu system to get it to go into English. That alone took me a little over 15 minutes.

love your reviews, but can i suggest a picture of the overall look from the outside of the car, so your viewers can gauge the stealthiness of the cam on the windshield. I'm one of does people that plan on leaving my camera mounted 24/7. Thank you for the review and keep them coming.
Picked up one of these, for general purposes, this is a great camera. Does enough at night to keep you out of trouble if someone wants to lie about what happened during an accident or incident.
I have had my E-PRANCE for about 3 yrs. Bought it for a trip to Sioux Falls, SD. Followed up the next year to Disney World FL. It still works perfect. We would never leave home without it.

Yes the thing is all these cameras might have the same name and box but different pricing and different functions. There is no way of knowing if you have a crap version or not until you set it up and try to use it.
Hello from America and first off I want to congratulate you on this fine piece of carcam exposition. The wonderful videos only confirm to us in America that England is full of lovely villages. I will examine more of your videos as I have subscribed because I have questions about electrical hook-up, but can you tell me--does this company also make rear view car cameras, too?
Thanks for authoring this Channel. I've watched a few of your Videos and I'm going to subscribe. I did notice a couple of 'common themes' on your DashCam Videos.
1. The "G-Sensor" (you seem to always leave OFF) can deduce an impact or collision and will automatically record some seconds prior and after impact then save and lock this video file onto the SD Card.
Another usage with better Software (and GPS Firmware) would usually be that the Device knows WHEN you turn a corner (otherwise the GPS would have to extrapolate the two lines derived from your course on the Map and assume that where they intersected is where you turned, which would not be very accurate).
Also the G-Sensor would work correctly (assuming it was working at all) on round-a-bouts (a 'circle-turn', where you can not turn left (in North America, or (I presume) left in GB)). and the Device's Mapping Software ought to make a tiny 3/4 circle when you view the Map zoomed-in (this cheap Device no doubt has no such Software but better Devices would benefit from the G-Sensor being on).
While the G-Sensor (if the Sensor Hardware is even present in the Device) marks the turn, of course the G1W does not seem to have GPS available so this particular Device is using the Firmware from a better Device (and in this particular case you can leave it off, otherwise it is better to have it on IF you have an integral GPS).
In the case of the cheaper Device it is likely just a 'crash-sensor' and not a true "G-Sensor" (like most Mobile Phones have).
2. At 5:45 (and in MANY of your DashCam Videos) you mention that "I don't know how this is going to turn out on RUclips". It should be perfect; thats my answer.
Check out a 3D Video I synthesized (using Computation Photography) from a DVD source (480P). Notice that the Audio Sync is perfect and the 3D Video (which you can watch in 2D if you do not have 'Cellophane Glasses' or a 3D TV) is pixel perfect and eyestrain free.
I pride myself on making all my Videos reflect the quality of the Device being used as best as is possible; in the case of that Video it was created artifically with my Computer (from a 480P DVD source) and should be perfect when viewed at 1080P (or more if you have it).

hi tchmoan , I bought the sj1000 in 2014 and now in 2015 g1w both purchases used their videos as parameter of choice, you is the guy .
I am blown away at the quality of this camera. While you thought lackluster I thought the "direct into sunlight" capability was particularly good. NOW mind you I don't have thousands of dollars to test dozens of camera's so I am comparing it to $30 to $40 (25 pound??) camera's for me this camera at $60 to $70 is an EXPENSIVE camera to me.
for the price very very impressive. as good as a marcus? hell no. but a fraction of the price too :-)
I DO wish their was a cheap GPS (speed in video overlay) unit available with this units day/night capabilities. IE around $100.
they DO make the G1W-C version which uses a capacitor. no issues with heat then (the battery is what dies in the heat)
I still want a Marcus 5. badly. but I don't have $320 to spend on one :-)

A couple of notes after buying and using this same dashcam myself:
1. I use a SanDisk 32gb class 10 micro sd card. It records perfectly to that card. I also tried an older 8gb class 4 card. The 8gb card would only record for 5 - 10 seconds and then quit. I would guess that your issue with your class 10 card was just a fluke incompatibility (as was my 8gb card.)
2. My camera didn't darken the scene as much as yours under direct sunlight. I would think the WDR setting has something to do with this. I believe mine is set to off.
3. I used a Sharpie (black permanent marker) to darken the chrome ring around the lens. I also blacked out the white cover over the light since I don't see myself using the light ever.
4. This is a super dashcam regardless of the price.
