Saw Vai perform this live on the G3 tour and I was in absolute amazement!! Harp on the tail end of the Hyrda, Top is a 12 string, Middle is a 7 String tuned down a whole step down, and bottom is a standard 4 string bass. He also has some buttons on there that activate certain sustains and/or sounds. Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!
There's a little more to it than that even! The 12-string is fretless above the 12th fret so he can do the sitar sounds up there, and the bass is fretless on the E A strings only. Mental!
Watching this late doctor got my time lol love your show. I stepped on the wrong bandwagon with support. I am a 73 yr. old great grandmother that still goes to concerts. Looking for something special to send. Love to you,Ali, and the girls. Peace ✌️
Looking forward to see Steve this fall as he does his best Robert Fripp impersonation in Beat, playing 80’s King Crimson with Tool’s Danny Carey & two members of the KC lineup of that time Adrian Belew & Tony Levin (longtime bassist with Peter Gabriel)
Steve Vai is one of the few men in the world who is considered a GOD of the guitar and it is not for less, the way of playing is inhuman, it is beyond comprehension. The Hydra is not a musical instrument, it is rather a machine that only he is worthy of playing, just like Thor's fucking hammer only he is worth touching, so is Steve Vai's Hydra.
First, wife has a beautiful smile. Second, that's not a good intro to Vai. Try Tender Surrender for the feels or Ya-Yo Gakk for the fun. And lastly, the middle neck is a 7-string and you didn't seem to notice that the bass is half-fretless. Great reactions, Sebs. Keep 'em coming. 😎
Your body shows how much you inhabit the music no matter what instrument you play. This is true of violinists, celloists, pianists, etc., as well as guitarists. i"m glad to se e you introduce Ali to one of your early enthusiasms. This is incredible stuff Sebs. You had great taste from the beginning dude.
I've seen Steve Vai 2 times so far. The first time was on the David Lee Roth "Skyscraper tour". I saw him again a few years ago on the "Generation Axe tour" with Zakk Wylde and Nuno Bettencourt. I'm going in April on 4/20 to see the "Vai/Satrian tour"......it's going to be awesome.
Steve Vai played on a couple of David Lee Roth CDs. You should do a reaction to Just Like Paradise by David Lee Roth. Great song, and Steve Vai guitar playing.
You have to watch the movie Crossroads , it has great blus music and it has a unbelievable last scene is a duel with Steve Vai and Ralph Machio. Its awesome !
I recall a really good interview where he goes over the whole instrument and this recording, even pointing out where he almost lost it and barely caught it before it slipped!
I sent you a donation & suggestion to do David Lee Roth's classic song Just Like Paradise -- which features Steve Vai on guitar. I've always loved that song.
Sorry accident suicide way to soon but the story told by another band member said they were coming up playing in some small club and Jimmy Hendricks walked in and after the show asked about Terry Kath and made a remark said that cat blows me away but if you do check out Chicago Make me smile LIVE you will see him sing and play another one you MUST see Frampton Comes A Live on the Midnight Special show from the 70s
I saw him perform this and some other songs live in India a couple months ago. Incredible show. I think she will like Tender Surrender more than FTLOG.
I've seen some of Via's other stuff which was pretty impressive, but this is just crazy. I have a hard enough playing one guitar. Guys playing a guitar and a harmonica is beyond my ability, but this is insane.
Mr. Duran you need to dig into the band Chicago song list amazing led guitar Terry Kath BAD ASS I read a story told about him he died on to accident stewerside
Holy S#!T! I think your they ONLY one that has truly grasped the concept between classical and today's instrumental music! Classical music has been around almost 200 years.! Other than Opera there were no lyrics! Only feeling. Why should it be any different today as it was Centuries ago.????

I love her reaction .. it's like "what the hell is going on here?" .. "how is this possible?" .. Steve Vai is "Not Of This Earth" .. LOL

1986 Movie - Crossroads - Steve Vai was awesome....helped me understand the musical evolution from Blues through to Rock

Actually it’s Steve Vai vs Steve Vai
He is truly an Alien.
He played in Frank Zappa’s band, Alcatrazz (after Yngwie) David Lee Roth’s band, and Whitesnake. Phenomenal guitarist.
When you're Steve Vai and still want to challenge yourself lol.
Steve Vai will always be a phenomenon!❤❤
WOW! That is quite the geee-tar!!😮😮😅

Steve Vai and Orianthi is a good one to watch, too

Loved Whitesnake.
Yesss🤘🏼🔥
Dude we totally could have bonded with this stuff way back in the day when I was like 12!
Maybe its because I watched Those Snow White Notes, but the little bit at 11:46 sounds like a shamisen to me.
You should show her, "Lotus Feet". It's vai's most emotional song imo.
Mr. Duran you need to dig into the band Chicago song list amazing led guitar Terry Kath BAD ASS I read a story told about him he died on to accident stewerside
Steve uses a waist strap to wear this guitar!
Stanley Jordan...stairway to heaven blows that out of the water...two different guitars
to me ssems like a pinball table
I would love to request a Canadian artist Goldie Boutilier. Song, Cowboy Gangster Politician. Thanks
