Jewel was on The Masked Singer and sang La Vie En Rose. I’ve been a Jewel fan forever and thought it was her but the way she sang that song completely blew my mind. Incredible!!! And I am just shy of 62 and I still sing to Jewel and still relate to the heartbreak.
I saw Jewel open for the The Psychedelic Furs in 1995 at Milwaukee's The Rave concert venue. I was 29 years old. It was a weird concert pairing so 90% of the audience was drinking in the side bar while me and 20 intrigued fans were mesmerized by her talent and charm. Afterward she personally autographed her CD cover for me. "To Jeff, Best Wishes Jewel Kilcher" AND she drew, and doodled a nude fairy with wings next to her name. It's art! I still have that CD cover and cherish it as a keepsake discovery of a legendary singer-songwriter when she was still an unknown.
I always thought she had one of the most emotion filled, expressive voices I've ever heard. She is a genius musician and composer too. And she can write a song with more meaning than just about anyone. The fact that she was discovered while being homeless and living in her car is amazing. Now if you ever want to really get a feel for her origins, watch some episodes of the show, ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER. That family in the show is her actual family and homestead where she grew up. There's even a few episodes where she comes home with her son to spend time with the family. It's pretty cool. You'll even recognize her singing harmony with her dad on the theme song for the show.
FYI, I think that the music video is always open to interpretation, but for me it wasn’t to go along with the lyrics or story per se, but her choices of the horses and the girls were setting a certain mood or emotional space to experience the song.
Hey, Seb and Ali - this is Brian. Jewel is a Jewel. "Who will Save Your Soul" is her at her best both vocally and commercially. This comes close. And yes, she has a gorgeous voice and presence.
Just a girl and a guitar, nothing more, and still the most powerfully emotional performance imaginable. Jewel, 1000 Miles Away - ruclips.net/video/PPWzno0wiNI/видео.html
This song has such a deep meaning to me. I got her first album about a week after it was released as my cousin attended music school with her and they were friends and he sent it to me. I love the entire album, this song hit me at such a vulnerable time in my life and like your wife says, I played it in the car constantly driving and singing my heart out with Julie and remember some particular times where it was pouring rain so hard and I couldn’t even see the road and Matt tears were flowing. She has always been a special artist with an extremely special voice and special pen! Thank you for this reaction❤🤍✌️💗
1990-1996 were as impactful as 1968-1974. The last two great eras of music. Starting with the Black Crowes in 1990, and the Seattle sound in 1991, Gangsta rap in 1991-92, Rap/rock Beastie Boys and Rage against the machine, and then you had Blues traveler, Candlebox, Green Day and others showed that all you needed was the right chords, the right attitude, and just be REAL.
I always knew she could sing, I remember all her songs in the 90’s but I really didn’t understand how talented she really is until I saw her on “Masked Singer” she has such range something that wasn’t showcased in her hit songs. Her masked singer performances really blew me away.
I went to Woodstock 1994 (25th anniversary). The years 1993-1994 were HUGE for women in rock. Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisette, The Cranberries, Melissa Etheridge, Dee-lite, and many more. Women kicked the door down that year when Kurt Cobain lost his crown as king of MTV and radio.
Just like disco in the late 70s, grunge was a broad term for the new 70s revival sound of guitar rock and folk singer songwriters. It did not JUST apply to Seattle bands. Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing pumpkins, and even the Beastie Boys had a grunge edge to their music.
Hundreds of afternoons in my past my wife and I would play her CD because who doesn't love fabulous music ? I was meant for you was a great hit. Who will save your soul is incredibly good as well. Take care.
I'd recommend the performance from Lilith Fair where she joined Indigo Girls and Sarah MacLachlan to sing The Water Is Wide. Some of the best harmonies you will ever hear and Jewel's solo is excellent.
It would be cool to see you react to her Woodstock 99 performance of who will save your soul. She really plays with her voice and goes hard! It’s a cool showcase of her blues and soul influence..she does a guitar battle with her voice..a call and answer thing it’s so cool!!
jewel was iconic in that era. another if you like the just killer female vocals style of alannis and jewel, check out tori amos. tori amos in this era was IMHO brilliant and little earthquakes top albums for me of all time. like crucify, precious things, winter, little earthquakes... etc
Standing Still, Intuition (her commentary on the machines that control Britney), Who will save your soul, sooo good! Yes definitely thought was in a music video and embodied the song. 😅 Sarah maclaughlin is also someone and kd lang ( honestly Canadian heartbreak music is the 90s)
I saw Jewel in a fairly small venue about 10-12 years ago. For her intermission, she brought out one of her brothers who was visiting her on the road. He was right up there with her in the musical talent. That was a great show.
First, love this song. Second, yes, I create my own music videos in my head all the time. Since I was a kid, I would do this, even now, I still will do that. Music is my love, my life
Foolish Games is my favorite Jewel song. She did a recent duet with Kelly Clarkson to commemorate her 25th anniversary for her Pieces of You album. It was great, especially for socially distant duet. I discovered her music when I watched her music video of You Were Meant for Me on MTV (back when they had music on the channel). I then bought her album. She also went on Howard Stern and talked about her story. She also was on Masked Singer. You should check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
I was happily married for 35 yrs and i can honestly say Jewel is the only woman I was ever jealous of. My late husband was obsessed with her. Ps. I loved her too
Her album release party at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach was a fantastic show (plus Steve Poltz from The Rugburns, and co-writer of 1 or 2 of her songs on the album, playing with her).
1997 brought us Cher and the AUTO TUNE invention. Brittany and all the boy bands came then, right when you really didn't have to sing well. Bubble gum pop in the 80s and late 90s coincided with two inventions. Pitch correct in 1979, and auto tune in 1997. Suddenly, dancers, models and tv stars flourish on the charts. Brittany, Christina, andJustin Timberlake were all tv starts before they were singers. Mark Wahlberg is the only actor who started with a song on the charts (Marky Mark and the Funky bunch).
WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL!! My favorite 💞 Ok,,,, Well maybe this one 😢 STANDING STILL is another great (of many). As Karen Carpenter is of my top 5 favorite female singers, Jewel is surely in my 10!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
She was a main character in a 19999 movie Ride With the Devil, about the border war between Kansas and Missouri around the time of the civil war. It has an all star cast, Toby Maguire, Jim Caviezel, Mark Ruffalo, Skeet Ulrich, Jeffery Wright along with Jewel. It's a fairly accurate depiction of the historic action of those times.

I saw Jewel on The Masked Singer as well and she blew me away as did Leanne Rimes ! Jewels rendition of La Vie en Rose was stunning !
I love “You Were Meant for Me”. Such a beautiful voice. She won the Masked Singer and her voice was so mesmerizing

That's awesome ❤ what a wonderful keepsake and memory
That is so precious ❤
She is a classically trained opera singer.
Wow, didn't know that. Thank you. Grew up in the 90's and liked her songs, appreciate them more now.
Jewel singing karaoke to her songs while disguise as a business woman is worth the watch

Jewel was big in our house growing up. We played her song "Angel Standing By" at my sister's funeral.

Love Jewel. I had a huge crush on her. You must do her "Yu Were Meant For Me"
Jewel was one of my 90's go to. I recommend Intuition and Who Will Save Your Soul as next reviews!
This song has such a deep meaning to me. I got her first album about a week after it was released as my cousin attended music school with her and they were friends and he sent it to me. The video of Jewel going undercover for karaoke singing Jewel is fantastic.
Who will Save Your Soul, you Were Meant for Me, Hands. 3 great songs by Jewel.

Graduated high school in 97 and I knew there was something special about that time. Resuscitation the further out we get
I always knew she could sing, I remember all her songs in the 90’s but I really didn’t understand how talented she really is until I saw her on “Masked Singer” she has such range something that wasn’t showcased in her hit songs. Her masked singer performances really blew me away.
Abscence Of Fear is a must to react to!

The Kilcher family is the family from "Alaska: The Last Frontier "... she was raised on a Homestead.
Check out "Angel Standing By" from Jewel. It was used effectively in the movie "Return to Me" 🙋♀️
This song touched my soul when it came out. I have so many memories of singing this and crying in my car.
YES!! Love Jewel! One of my favorites ❤ my favorite song by her is Hands.
Yes! Hands and Life Uncommon...two of my favorites.
Hundreds of afternoons in my past my wife and I would play her CD because who doesn't love fabulous music ? I was meant for you was a great hit. Who will save your soul is incredibly good as well. Take care.
Not sure about the video's meaning, but they used this song in the movie Batman and Robin. Love this song and love Jewel!
This song live from Woodstock ‘99 is a must watch. My opinion is the best recording of her best song. Lots of others worth checking out too.
Hard to pick a favorite Jewel song. Her lyrics are chef kiss💋! Love her voice! ❤
Jewel is a classically trained singer with more ability that is shown even in this song.
Her voice is extraordinary.
I'd recommend the performance from Lilith Fair where she joined Indigo Girls and Sarah MacLachlan to sing The Water Is Wide. Some of the best harmonies you will ever hear and Jewel's solo is excellent.
She's still recording and performing. I saw her last month opening for Melissa Etheridge. Even with mild laryngitis, she gave an excellent show.
It would be cool to see you react to her Woodstock 99 performance of who will save your soul. She really plays with her voice and goes hard! It’s a cool showcase of her blues and soul influence..she does a guitar battle with her voice..a call and answer thing it’s so cool!!
Sebs, brother!! Great video and reaction, I haven't heard many Jewel songs, so thank you and Ali for introducing me to something new!! Enjoyed it!!
I am obsessed with this song. No I would not pretend I am on the video but the lyrics of the song are so relatable.
She released a country album that's pretty good. My favorite would either be "Stronger Woman" or "Satisfied." Probably Satisfied.
This is from my era and I absolutely loved her. And I loved grunge and metal but she appealed to my softer side. They don’t exclude each other
Jewel can still sing. She doesn't take a back seat to many. Voice of an angel.
The radio versions of Foolish Games and Break Me are my two most favorite songs by Jewel. She's an incredible artist!
Jewel is absolutely amazing! One of my favourites. I 100% believe musicians in the early 90’s were the best of the best!
Jewels family have a t.v show called
Alaska: The Last Frontier.
She is in a few of the episodes.
jewel was iconic in that era. another if you like the just killer female vocals style of alannis and jewel, check out tori amos. tori amos in this era was IMHO brilliant and little earthquakes top albums for me of all time. like crucify, precious things, winter, little earthquakes... etc
She was on masked singer and there is a video out there of all the songs she sang for the show. That really shows her talent.
There is a video of Jewel going undercover and singing at a kareoke bar. It's brilliant.
59 years old here. Fan of classic rock, disco, pop, alt, punk, etc. Pretty sure I have this CD, maybe a few by Jewel.
Yeah Brian is right. *Who Will Save Your Soul* was her first release I believe. *These Hands* is a beautiful one too.
Near You Always is my favorite Jewel song
She performs a killer version of this when she went undercover and sang karaoke.
Yes, "Who Will Save Your Soul" but do the more recent live version, it really shows off her vocal prowess.
I saw Jewel in a fairly small venue about 10-12 years ago. For her intermission, she brought out one of her brothers who was visiting her on the road. He was right up there with her in the musical talent. That was a great show.
She can also sound childlike. Explore more of her songs. Amazing singer.
First, love this song. Second, yes, I create my own music videos in my head all the time. Since I was a kid, I would do this, even now, I still will do that. Music is my love, my life
The video is a distraction. When you see her singing on stage With her guitar, she is so pure, so genuine, so amazing.
I saw her in concert last year, she was great!
This is my favorite song by Jewel❤
Love love love jewel...thank you for doing this..next. Alice in wonder land.❤
This song just felt like my life at the time.
Jewel’s voice is unreal and so emotion provoking!
Aawww this sing and album brings me back to high school and college.
I was happily married for 35 yrs and i can honestly say Jewel is the only woman I was ever jealous of. My late husband was obsessed with her. Ps. I loved her too
She is married to probably the greatest Pro Rodeo cowboy of all time, Ty Murray.
She WAS married to Ty Murray.
Her album release party at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach was a fantastic show (plus Steve Poltz from The Rugburns, and co-writer of 1 or 2 of her songs on the album, playing with her).
love Jewel!!! great voice!!!
You should check out the version of this song she did at her 25th anniversary concert. It is totally different and much more impressive IMO.
You really should react to *Tori Amos* she will blow you away
My favorite is Still Standing.
The first album is epic. Greatness
Kinda forgot how awesome she was.

Who will save your soul is my favorite Jewel song.
Also the album version and the single version are a little different. I prefer the album version
You Were Meant For Me and Who Will Save Your Soul are the other two huge ones around that time
In theater class we got to make a music video and perform for the class.......didnt you? Lol
She is an amazing singer
Jewel and rusted root was my very first concert and it was epic
I was supposed to go see Jewel and Root, but I got grounded for sneaking out of the house the night before. I was never so mad at my mom!
This is my favorite song by Jewel
Masterpiece here great stuff love you and your beautiful lady
To me, the best and biggest hit Jewel had was You Were Meant For Me* ❤ And also Who Will Save Your Soul ❤
This is my favorite Jewel song!
Watch her on The Masked Singer! Unbelievable ❤
My very favorite song by Jewel❤
Who will save your soul, Hands and you were meant for me are great songs by her and very popular.
i love her spirit album
Fav Jewel song is You were meant for me
Part II 😁 YES!! Very relistenable just to be surrounded by the Blissfulness of Sonic Jewelry. ☮️
i do by her, love this song to this day
You are crazy dude. It's part of your appeal. I know, you can't fool an old fool. "Hedlok"
Angel Standing By. My absolute all time favorite. Listen to her live version
At the 1997 music awards show. Absolutely mesmerizing
Pieces of you is a great album. My fav is Painters.
Now that ya guys are going into the 90’s era, female artists… gotta listen to Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, K.D. Lang.
IMO the album version is so much better. It is 100% more vulnerable, open, and honest. It tears ME apart.
WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL!! My favorite 💞
Ok,,,, Well maybe this one 😢 STANDING STILL is another great (of many). As Karen Carpenter is of my top 5 favorite female singers, Jewel is surely in my 10!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
That’s reminds me of evanescence
Note I posted this before I heard you say it just letting you know I concur with you
Yes, your brothers were unfortunately incorrect. 67' to about 82' is the crown time of music. Thank goodness we have these musicians.
to say the early nineties was the best is wild 😊 sure, lots of good stuff from then, but can’t touch some other periods.
Who will save your soul is her biggest hit!!!!!
5:44 But 90's music videos were 10x more original [edit: and creative] than music videos made today.
I know a lot of guys back then that liked her.
"Hands"
Who will save your soul. Live Woodstock
