Great to see error 53 finally getting some press this week. Here are my thoughts on Error 53 and the media's portrayal. www.mendonipadrehab.com/entries/general/bad-apple-the-intentional-bricking-of-working-iphones-with-error-53
+iPad Rehab it's heating up in the UK www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3434329/Apple-s-software-update-kill-iPhone-6-Error-53-message-break-handsets-taken-party-repair.html
+iPad Rehab Hello! I'm not from US. I'm Russian. I was trying to hook up another LCD(just to learn something new) to my iphone 6 and now the button works but touch ID doesn't. Please, help! I've been watching your videos, they are great. So the button is original to this device is in my possession, I think I somehow damaged the flex. Can I replace touch ID flex behind the metal metal? I think it would work, but I better ask the best in business, which is you. THANKS A TON!
+iPad Rehab Thank you for you reply, your quality will be known among many. U see the thing is that the button is original to my Iphone 6, actually everything is original, i just wanted to hook up another LCD to my device and after i put my LCD(the one that came with it from the factory) back, and button got broke for some reason. It does not work when it’s in the sleep mode, but after I "slide to unlock" the button works again(but only as it works on Iphone 5, just pressing), touch ID is gone. So I wanted to ask you to guide me and help with this matter. What should I do to get my touch ID back? and one more thing, - if touch ID is gone, can i udate ios, will it bricked in my case? Thank a bunch. As a token of my gratitude I might transfer you some money via paypal. I appreciate anything you can tell me.
I have tried a lot combinations for restoring an iPhone 6 stuck in error 53. 1# I tied placing placing and original home button (not the original original one because that is completely lost did not come with the iPhone that was restored) 2# I tried my original lcd/digitizer home button assembly off my iPhone 6 and nothing to fix it. I tried fully restoring it without the screen attached and even in combinations of detaching any flex cables from the motherboard completely like volume and power button cables and camera flex connectors. (Note: I have done restores on iPhone 5S where it would not restore because of an aftermarket screen replacement and still would not restore after placing the original back on for the restore and still saying error 53 but as soon as I disconnected the screen entirely it would pass through and complete the restore but that was for iPhone 5s). I did the same thing with the iPhone 6 I have stuck in error 53 and it made a little farther progress then with different screen assemblies on it did during the restores. It when though like it was going to fully complete and though it was but do not, still error 53. I have done this over 30 time already in some different combinations according to the issue and nothing worked. 3# I tried using another original USB port assembly in same above different combinations I did using just the original USB assembly the iPhone 6 already in had. I think I am going the try one more thing a did not want to do it but I just take out the motherboard completely and reinstalling into my iPhone 6 as if I was doing a board swap and see if I can't make so magic happen there on that. but since its the touch ID problem I'm not seeing that it will work but I will try just for fun I guess. A vary time consuming and dotting task.
One of the few Error 53 videos which gets past the BS which is in pretty much every other. A clear, well informed presentation of the root cause of the error 53 issue, and what you can and can not do.
"that is ilegal and fraudelent" - the fuckers wnat to suck out 300€ to repair a fucking 10€ part and brick my phone because they think they are bosses. They deserved a big process, this is imoral, and more ilegal than foing that, is bricking your property on purpose.
+David Pinhal Please read my comment and sit down and THINK it through before answering. First off, smartphones are NOT meant for untrained people to fix. And it doesn't matter what brand. They are very sophisticated devices and it requires proper equipment and training to fix them properly. Now, when you buy an iPhone, it comes with a 1 year warranty and you have the option of buying an extended warranty. Now, if you don't WANT to purchase the extended warranty, that doesn't mean Apple has to warrant their product should it fail. Now, here's the other part. Apple has a warranty where an UN-AUTHORIZED service tech that cracks open your device and tries to fix it, will violate the warranty or any extended service contract. Now, let's look at what's going on.. There are people spitting out countless RUclips videos that are most likely NOT Apple Authorized and Certified Technicians giving explicit training on how to fix their products. Plus, I wouldn't automatically think that they know how to properly fix a product that's sophisticated unless they follow Apple's repair procedures. Now, if you take a device, like Apple, (it could be ANY Mfg, BTW) and bring it to an UN-AUTHORIZED service person or try to fix it yourself and the phone fails, that's NOT Apple's fault. Yes, their software checks to validate the the device is in perfect working order and checks certain things to make sure that it's works the way it's supposed to work and if it bricks that phone, then so be it. It's NOT APPLE"S fault. It's the fault of whomever fixed it that didn't fix it properly. and they should have to replace the device since they are responsible for not fixing it to adhere with Apple's specs on a proper repair. Now, as far as getting your data? You are instructed to back up your device prior to pressing the OS update button and there is ABSOLUTELY not excuse for not backing up your device. Even if Apple didn't have this Error 53, it's POSSIBLE for ANY phone that's getting a software update to be bricked. Android phones have this problem, and no one says squat about it. I was reading countless users complain about getting their phone bricked (under warranty) and updating their phone with XDA code. People need to back up data and the OS warns people all of the time, especially before an OS update.
+Oneness100 so if I buy a Ford and the brakes fail due to a defect outside of the warranty and I take it to the mechanic down the road and he replaces the pads and as a result my car won't start because Ford left a booby trap in the ecu... that's my fault? also I live in the UK and thanks to our membership of the EU certain laws are in place to protect consumers against this kind of corporate vandalism. A device must be free of fault and fit for purpose. A one year warranty is not enough. In the EU an electronic device must last for a reasonable amount of time, meaning that if my apple device (which I own zero of because they are shit) should fail due to a defect within 2 years then apple HAVE to repair or replace it and if it can be proven to be a fault in manufacture then that can extend up to six years. As for no one mentioning android, most of these devices store your data on a micro sd card which means if my android device does suddenly turn into a brick then it doesn't effect me. If it did happen though I have many open source recovery methods available to me unlike apple where they go mental if you even suggest using your device outside of the bloated piece of crap that is iTunes. anyway I have seen uncountable bricked iphones and only 2 android devices in my 12 years of fixing mobile devices so maybe it's just that they don't die as much as iphones?
Prince Knight What does your auto analogy have anything to do with the scenario? Apple had a bug in the software, they have a fix for it and they will reimburse anyone that paid any money to get a new phone or to get it repaired. Lost data? It's the user's responsibility to have their data backed up. A mfg can't be held responsible for lost data, if there's a law in the UK about it, then it's a pretty fucked up law. Don't you guys know of the concept of backing up to a cloud service or to a computer? Just to let you know, MicroSD cards have a shorter lifespan than the storage that comes with smartphones. You are aware of that. Plus, they are typically slower than internal NAND storage. As far as where you get your Ford repaired. Ford will only help you out if it's a warranty issue. If a repair shop fucks up your car, then you have to take it up with the repair shop and if they are a tiny shop, they can only do so much, otherwise, you might have to have your insurance take care of it. Remember, most people have insurance on their car, but not on a smartphone or computer, unless it's covered by your homeowners insurance. I know in the US, computer mfg are NOT responsible for lost data. It states that clearly on the warranty. I don't live in the UK, nor do I plan on moving there so I have no idea what laws they have their with regards to computer related products. I would think that if a customer loses data, then it's their fucking problem. The user is the one that operates the computer and there is something called BACKING UP your data, whether it's to the Cloud or to a computer etc. And no, MOST Android phones don't have Micro SD cards, many of them do, but I would't say that most of them do. Then again, I haven't looked at every single model Android phone, nor do I have the time to waste. But typically data can be lost for many reasons, that's the whole concept behind backing up. Now, you can connect a MicroSD card with a connector to an iPhone, but most people simply don't bother with that, they just back up to a cloud service, or a computer. If I lost my phone in the ocean, I could get all of my data back because I back it up regularly. It's kind of what you do if your data is important to you. Cars don't typically have user data stored, so cars are kind of a different beast, if you will. But you sound like an Anti Apple person that will use whatever tiny little issue, blow it out of proportion to make yourself feel superior. Is that what you do? I never said Apple was perfect and I know for a fact that none of these Android mfg are perfect either. Many have tons of problems, they just don't get as much media attention because people EXPECT these others to have problems, and none of them make decent profits, so Apple is targeted by extremely jealous people that hold Apple to higher standards than everyone else. If there was malware on the Apple, they'd get front page headlines, but Android has about 99% of the malware on mobile devices, but people just EXPECT It and it's not big news when a new one surfaces because most of them are Android based. Same thing with a desktop OS, With Windows, malware emerges daily and it's normal, with OS X, it's rare and when one surfaces, it gets media attention. I have my reasons for buying Apple and you have your reasons for not buying Apple. Yeah, and? SO fucking what? Does that make you SUPERIOR? NO. It doesn't. We all conjure up reasons to buy into a platform. I do have a long list of requirements that I want met before I choose a platform and for me, Apple met most of those requirements that were most important to me, which is why chose Apple and I haven't been disappointed enough to switch, because I know it's not better, just different and in some ways worse with other platforms. Android just has a piss poor track record with OS updates. One has to wait and many times, they don't update the OS on a particular model phone, that's why the majority of Android users are at least 2, 3, sometimes 4 OS versions behind. Only about 1% of the Android users have Marshmallow, whereas over 80% of the iPhone users has updated to iOS 9 (latest version). It's just the reality of Android. Only a small handful actually have a top of the line processor, most don't. I think it's safe to say that most Android phones sold are still older 32 Bit processors because the majority of Android phones sold are just really cheap models sold.
Lets say you buy a car and if you replace anything thats not original the car manufacturer should make the car useless ? AND even if you had a original used part it STILL would not work AND you needed to have the car fixed by the ones making the car ?!?!? Anyone defending this error 53 must be incredible stupid..
I am having trouble running two where I introduced PIN error several times in percentage that the device is locked Can I somehow pull my files without the work of restoration of the device where I am in desperate need for files stored and Thanks
Your videos are amazing!! I somehow am just now discovering your channel. I've always wondered exactly where the Touch ID chip was and what it looked like. You're videos are extremely informational
Hey iPad Rehab, i recently replaced my iPhone 6 screen and everything seemed well, however after testing the home button, it would not work. The fingerprint sensor works fine for unlocking the phone but no button click feedback.I checked the home button and there wasn't any noticeable damage to it, I also checked the flex cable on the underside of the LCD shield and saw nothing wrong with it but figured i would replace it anyways for just in case. Unfortunately it yielded the same result. So what im asking is have you seen this issue before and if so how would you go about fixing this? Thank you for reading!
+The Mod Shop I would put that home button in a vault to be used to avoid error 53 in the future, then I would install a new home button (giving up touch id). If the new button didn't work, then I'd pursue the home button function on the schematic---look for the word "menu"
We have moved the home button over on the fact of the fingerprint only working with the 1st home button. But we hardly ever moved the ribbon over unless we got some cheap screens with no small parts. I hope to see a ribbon only test.
Hi Jessa; Thanks for this video. In 4:17 you mention the only solution to fix Error 53 is to having the original home button. We have tested this with the original button that originally came with the phone, and if you get error 53 once, even if everything is back to "stock" with the original button and all, it will still error out with 53. We tested this with a fully functional phone that had nothing wrong with it, unplugged the home button, tried restoring, got error 53, plugged everything back in, and still error 53. So unless Apple can program the button without having the phone turned on, then restoring after it's programmed would actually fully restore the phone. Thanks again.
You can clear error 53 if there is no problem with original button Touch ID or the long home flex which can get microtears. Any replacement long flex will do, but you have to have the original button--at least you could the last time I tried, but that was a few months ago before iOS 9
+Daniel Rosales My iPhone is not terrible, but I do hate all other Apple products. I have to take them apart everyday so I have a terrible habit of buying personal devices just for an emergency source of known good parts for troubleshooting.
dear jessica ....I bought an iPad air 2 WiFi + GSM in iCloud. I made hardware bypass method pasha, and the tablet has entered in DFU mode, when we did restore, i made this without display and without error 53 . after that the tablet was not recognised as iPad AIR2 with gSM, but only wifi , after restore i put back the display with the original button and the finger sensor has work very good ,i think that would be a way to bypass error 53 tablets in changing the board iD .. restore and bypass 53 error but with non working sensor ,what do you think?
Jessa, I would like to use an iPad mini as a cell phone. I understand that there are ways around this but they don't always work. The phone carriers are still able to detect whether it is an iPad or iPhone. I guess what it would actually take is to transplant the electronics from an actual iPhone and put them in an iPad. I understand that you might have a screen resolution difference. You will have a battery difference. But I thought there was at least there was some way. Do yo know if this is possible? Thanks.
i have a question, is it possible to replace the top lid of the home button while retaining touch id? if so how would you remove it, and what adhesive would you use to put the new one?
I am REALLY glad Apple did finally offer a solution for unbricking the iPhones with defective Touch ID. I only encountered a handful of inoperative Touch IDs. Mostly water damage or flex cable torn/bent.
hello. i bought a new original screen and home button from Apple. the problem is that my original home button has the broken cable. if i chang the chip like you did in the video that will work ? if yes. another question. i have the flux to retire the chip. what kind of glue you use to attach the chip ? is th e same flux ?

Good morning , I am a fan and I follow all your videos . I am a technician in iphones branch and I'm going for small repairs to workstations. I'm from Brazil and around here do not have people who do that kind of service. I would like you to tell me which models of machines that you use and what irons that have greater scope to nano repairs. wait the return .
thank for your video . how can fix touch id on new home button with cable ? i tried swap all ic from old to new, but not work . Thank for help and sorry about my language .
Hi! Thanks for your videos!! If I purchase a screen replacment for iPhone 6 with the home button included, will the touch id still work or do I need the old home button and long cable that attaches it to the logic board from the old screen?
thank you for the info I got my grandson 5s bad screen i got a new glass and touch screen assemble. I works fine , will it still be ok? I will not repair any 6 iphone now I know that it will not work about how much will it cost to put the home button that can with the iphone 5s
I did one of those swap jobs with my iPhone 5. I dropped it and after putting a new screen on it it was dead. I panicked then just took it to the Apple store and got a new one under warranty. NO sign of drop damage or or tampering were present and the water sensor was naturally still OK, so I walked out with a new one, WHEW!
Just wondering if Error 53 is still a thing? I recently changed the home bottom and screen on an iphone 6 plus. The phone has ios 10.2.1 (i think) and was updated to 11. The phone worked normally, no error 53, but finger print was disabled. Also i think i short-out something because both cameras and flash do not work at the moment.
hi Jessa, maybe it's a stupid question, but how about trying to restore it without the homebutton? (sorry if you mentioned it in the vid. but i missheard it:)
error 53 is gone now, so you can restore now with any home button or no home button at all. At the time of this video, you would get error 53 with no home button at all.
Hello :) I have one question, I have iPhone 6 Plus IOS 10.1.1 and turn off touch ID fingerprint. Now iPhone work great, but this iPhone 6 Plus didnt original home button with flex and havent original touch ID flex cable. I have question can update IOS? I think if i have turn on exampe touch id and turn off iphone replace home button with flex and touch id flex cable if update ios they get error 53. In my case turn off touch id iphone work great not original touch id and not original flex touch id can i update??? Thank you :)
Hello, my iphone 6 never had a home button problem or screen replacement, it blocked on error 53 after a restore process because the update was making my iphone 6 not working good, like battery discharge in less 1 hour for ex...what can i do ? what solution for me ? do i have to buy another home button? thanks for your reply help pls
+toanui LLaona no clue on that. you probably have a short somewhere on the board--and probably in some line with the mesa chip that is making the board not "hear" the data from the intact home button. A new home button will definitely NOT solve.
Hello +iPad Rehab. I have a question: I 've changed my screen by myself and i transferred my original home button, but the touch ID did not work and I got error 53 before the update starts. Then i put my old touch ID cable and now my update begin and stop at 50% (vs 0% before) with error 53! But i have my flash broken. What do you think I can do ? Thank you
I have an original home button in my iphone 53, what are the causes that may have caused this error? did you say water damage, icloud block, ...? and what can I do about it?
I still have the original button, but I ripped a part of the cable coming out of it. Is it possible to get a new flex cable and attach it to the original home button?
hi the machine to calibrate the home botom and the screen cost over $40.000 if you are an apple repair center (Service provider) also u could buy a damage iphone from ebay and put the original home botom and go to apple for a screen replacmet and as you have a error 53 with a brocken scree they will swap it for a new for a screen cost (£79 in the uk)
Please help me solve the problem of extracting the files from the device is locked even if I have to lift the machine and took the memory of another device if certainly benefit
Question. I've been fortunate enough to have my original home button still, however the cable the connects the home button (im assuming flex cable?) is torn due to my phone getting ran over. Before the button actually tore it worked. Is there a way they can add a new flex cable to my original home button and have it work without Error 53? Thanks so much!
Hi jessa i have seen a shop in eu that had repair touch id sensor for the iphone 5s 6 without require for old homebutton they replace it with a new oem and reprogram it i brought iphone 6 error 53 to them for fixen without homebutton they fixed for me i was stunned i think soon or later any repair shop could offer this
I fix phones myself... now and then when I struggle with issues to do with software I pay a visit to RUclips for a solution....Anyways just to let you know that you're one of the most helpful person and clued up in this business I'd like to THANK YOU for your time and effort to help people out ❤👍❤👍❤
hola amiga tengo un problema con un iphone 6 que no me funciona el home pero ya se a revisado y es problema de la boar usted tiene algun plano o esquema para solucionar ese problema y se activa el control por voz cada rato.. gracias espero respuesta
So confused if you dropped a iPhone 6 and the home button breaks then you can't update to new iOS versions like iOS 9.2 and stuff? How does this happen?
Oh let me not forget, that I also did everything I said in my previous post after updating my iTunes uninstalling it and reinstalling and all that fun stuff like doing the clean registry and more. updating my USB drivers and even in combination with using all my USB ports, I have 4 of them. go figure how times I've do this process in the many combinations for attempting to restoring this iPhone 6.
i tried the new update on iTunes for error 53, and my iPhone 6 was stuck on the boot logo and didn't work. My home button is flex cable is torn is there a video to learn how to micro solder? thanks.
I have a i6s+. The cable is snapped on the home flex cable. Anyway to fix that? Solder it back or take the chip inside the button out and put into a button with the flex cable intact.
If the button cable is torn it is a massive pain in the ass to do trace repair on it, but that is the only option unless you go to Apple for a new screen which comes with a new button
Hi, i love your tutorials. Very good quality. Just a quick question, i have an iphone 5s that can't recover because it gives me an itunes error 52. The recover/ Upgrade goes till 99%, and then freezes before the full recover. There is any solution/fix for this problem? Thank you in advance.
i have a question for you, ok doing a screen replacement on my 6s plus. Well while transfering my home botton which was the original touch id worked blahh blahh blahh. Well anyways the flex cable on the the button side broke ( ripped in half ) so no more hoe button function at all. my device is 11.2 ios i don't use the touch id but i have at one point but now i need a new home button can i do a aftermarket button because i see they stopped the error 53 issue ( weather it's true or not idk ) but am i safe for the install of a aftermarket home button without taking a chance of bricking my phone. Awesome video BTW.
I just replaced the screen so i'm good with not having touch ID. I found a article just after i posted on your video explaining all about the error 53 mishap. i already ordered a new home button, for now i'll use the floating button. Great videos and very informative. Thank you for the reply.
i currently have an iphone 6 plus with touch id failure im guessing the touch id has been replaced. (i bought it 2nd hand). im on ios 9 right now. if i update Over the air will i get a problem? or does does error 53 only occur when i update by itunes? thanks
I have iPhone 6 Plus with original home/Touch ID button but the button cracked and it doesn't work. Of course I also got code 53. What can I do with this phone, probably not under warranty anymore. Thanks.
Usually when the home button is removed, the adhesive that sticks it to the glass is no longer any good. I apply a bit of glue to the home buttons rubber gasket to keep it in place. If that is not done, over a period of time, the home button will spin/rotate and tear the flex cable to it.
iPad Rehab It's a low adhesive glue. I'm speaking from experience. I repaired my 5S years ago and didn't put anything on the home button gasket. After weeks of repeatedly pressing on the button (normal use), it stopped working. When I opened it, the ribbon cable was torn. It will happen because every time you press the button w/o anything holding it in place, it shifts. Eventually to the point that the ribbon cable tears.
Hi Lisa, Respect to you from Dominican Republic, I have a question I receive a Costumer Phone its an IPhone 5s Current Running on ios 8.1, Costumer Drop it and took it to Another Repair center in the process of changing the LCD they Broke the Home Button Flex, its not working at all, its the original but flex is broken, I wanted to know, she wants to get a replacement I already explain to her that finger print reader is not going to work, she is fine with that, but she also wanna do an IOS update, question is this one: phone will get stock on error 53 if I try to update to IOS9.1?
so error 53 is caused cause of the home flex not being oem or damaged. i have found a work around and updated a phone 8.4 to 9.1 without getting error 53 with a black phone and a white button if you want to learn how please reach out. i do repairs for a living as well and would like to speak to you about your classes i like your videos thanks!
Great, how did you do it? I have gotten two or three isolated reports of strange workarounds that worked, but nobody was able to reproduce them. What was your story?
Honestly i set up the phone as a beta downloaded the profile i didnt update the phone because i knew it would error 53 but it did it on its own that night i was pretty shocked.
I actually have an iphone 6 with error 53, the original home button has water damage, I don't now how fix that error and in my country we don't have apple store. You now how fix the original home button for water damage ? if you can help me. that's can be great.
I had my screen changed months ago, never had any issues with my home button/ touch ID until last week, "unable to activate touch ID on your iphone", and home button is not working either. Please advice? I'd love to get the touch ID feature back.
+zaprodk Sorry my comment was rather cryptic. Her position (anger) concerning Apple was clear throughout the entire video, but did not directly advocate any potentially illicit action till after 37:02. The comments after that point did not add to her clear position, but may (probably) exposed her to abetting "enabling" fraud. in short, Much risked, and nothing gained.
+Kawitamamayi she makes valid points and says what is legal and what isn't. The end outcome is ones moral choice. To be honest, Apple makes Billions, all the combined 53 error phones returned to the store using "sneaky" ways would be nothing but sofa change for Apple plus they did nothing to announce to users that "Before you do this update, if you replaced the screen, you will get a brick". Sneaky attack one way, sneak attack back. Sorry but Apple made the first boo boo.
+Kawitamamayi this is probably true. I was advised not to post this at all, and in response I did delete much of it. If RUclips editor wasn't so difficult to work with, I would probably take your advice :)
maybe to fix error 53 is the actual restore process iphone to itunes to apple maybe an alternative way to restore without apple servers home button info is stored to prevent us from changing the original homebutton?
I have this error 52 after trying to upgrade to IOS9. Several months back I had water damage took my phone to repair shop the replaced the screen but they were asking for $50 for my fingers Scan. I told them to hold off since the phone was working and I was using the on screen display for the power and options. Now I updated the phone and halfway through the update it's given me the error message 52. Took the phone back into the repair shop they said it's not your button it's the cable charge me $45 still the phone is not working after taking it home to do the update. What's the deal with that if the home button is the original button why is it still not trying to update. Show less
+Not Sonew There isn't a problem with the TouchID being paired to the phone like in the 5s. The problem is the REQUIREMENT for there to be a functional TouchID in order to use the phone at all after software update. The iPhone 5s doesn't have this requirement. You can replace the home button, give up TouchID function, and go on to use your phone indefinitely. In the iPhone 6 and 6+, this is no longer true. Once your original home button goes out, you can replace the home button, give up touch ID, and go on to use your phone UNTIL.....your phone is permanently bricked when you do any iOS update in the future. The home button itself is a tiny little plastic popper. The entire long term use of your iPhone is dependent on a tiny little piece of plastic. This little plastic nub will likely wear out long before your iPhone 6/6+ becomes obsolete. And when that happens, your phone is set up to become bricked. The real solution here is for Apple to recognize that users demand better long term function of the phone. We, not Apple, should be allowed to decide when we want to stop using the phone. The idea that the phone will automatically become bricked after the home button wears out is outrageous. Apple can, and should, change the way the iOS update hardware checking function works to allow the phone to continue to function--with disabled touch ID---if the original home button is no longer present. The way it is now, if you change your home button, you've thrown away your phone.
+iPad Rehab I don't think that, "The iPhone 5s doesn't have this requirement" argument is valid because the iPhone 5 was released prior to the deployment of ApplePay and the security requirement to pair the phone to the Touch ID. I do agree with you that Apple needs to offer a reasonable solution to the problem and a warning not to replace the home button or it will brick your phone. But, to beat them up because technology moving forward sometimes includes hidden got ya's I believe is unfair.
+Not Sonew The iPhone 5s touch ID is absolutely paired to the board. This is well established. You can not replace the iPhone 5s home button and preserve touch ID function. However, you can replace the home button, with full knowledge that you are sacrificing touch ID function, and still use the phone indefinitely and continue to update the iOS. I'm not suggesting conspiracy theory or that error 53 is an intentional design plan to secure Apple's piece of the repair pie---although it is mighty convenient. Error 53 problems in iPhone 6 have been around for nearly a year, and now with iOS 9 are rampant. There is certainly no argument that Apple is UNAWARE of error 53 bricking phones. Technology can move forward, design flaws can be uncovered--all of that is fine. However, when you know better you do better. Correcting the error 53 bricking of phones does not require a hardware change, the bricking happens during the iOS software update. I'm not an expert in software, but I can't imagine that it would be impossible to simply tweak the software update process so that the iPhone 6 hardware check could make note of a missing touch ID sensor, but not fail the whole phone and refuse to allow the update to go through. And even if that were not possible, I think given the severity of the consequence of iOS update in an iPhone with a bad or missing touch ID sensor---that adding a simple click through disclosure warning of the potential to have your phone turn into a brick if your home button has been swapped or is non-functional would go a long way.
Jessa, I agree that the software needs to be fixed to not brick the phone on Error 53. But, I still contend that Touch ID being tied to the phone is a security function that is necessary to the operation of ApplePay and is therefore required. Have you contacted Apple about this? If not, I still have a friend or two that might be able to pass this up the chain...
+iPad Rehab Hi Jessa good video I see this problem in some phones the idea is to use one original screen and use original home button from a donor phone? if apple knows the error 53 is produced for hardware issue Apple don't dude about maybe someone open the phone? The store you tell for buy good original part what is the name? I hope on the near future have a solution for that issue.
hi please i have a problem whit my iphone 5c when i want to restore it i have error 50 before i restore this iphone its in ios 7 and it's all time in search to the network carriere so can help me reslove it ?
Hi, What about the Error 50? My iPhone 5S has become a brick I can't restore it, always gives "an unknown error has occurred error 50" message around 65% of the restore process. Is it the BaseBand IC or something gone faulty?
My son had a replacement screen from a third party. So recently he must have clicked on my iTunes so when I went on it recently to do an update I got error 53 even though I never had my screen replaced can it be sorted by Apple? If not if I was to buy a new iPhone would I have to delete iTunes and so not to brick my new phone on the first day?
Error 53 has not been a common error code for several years. Something else is going on. The computer doesn’t care what phone is connected to it. iTunes works with any phone
+Ethan Hoeschen the only thing you have to have is the working original fingerprint sensor (i.e. in the home button) and a path for the board to hear the data from the sensor (i.e. the flexes are good). If you have a phone that you are afraid to update to iOS 9, just check to make sure touch ID is working. If it is, you are good to go.
+iPad Rehab Thanks, I just got an iPhone 6 yesterday and wanted to be certain that I wouldn't be harming my new phone by updating iOS. I have since updated without any problems.
I couldnt agree more in regards to the home button and I'm not surprise this kinda thing coming from Apple. They like to have a full control of the phones and now they also like to have a full control on repairing these phones, thats why I never had an iphone and not really keen to have one.
hello friend I have a problem with me iphone 6 does not work at home but already revised and boar problem you have some plan or scheme to solve that problem and voice control is activated every time .. hope thanks reply Answer
Hi Jessa im Harry here from fortwayne in.usa and im a tech.too i have a iphone 4 water damaged its not turning at all i tested for shorts but didnt find any shror it shows 50 ma on power supply with 3.8 volts replaced bacxklight coil and chip as well but no luck.i need to turn it on so hard cox customer need the pic and data for sure.what i can do next please help.Thanks.
if I buy an iPhone 6 that is for parts for a damaged screen or any other issue. If I buy it from ebay and then remove its home button along with the CPU chip and have them both installed on my iPhone that displays error 53 because of the replaced home button. Will this resolve the error 53 problem? Please help me. Thanks in advance.
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone changing the CPU for less than the price of an out of warranty exchange at Apple. But if you did, the Touch ID is probably coded in the NAND chip not the CPU.
if a third party repair is done on the device and the touch id is tampered with, will the touch id still remain disabled even though error 53 has been solved? also, what if a repair is done on a earlier software, would this result in the bricking of the phone? would it be better to update to the current iOS; 9.2.1 (new build number), before performing a repair? thank you, hope to hear back!
"Tampered with" implies a deceitful attempt to make a change to the fingerprint sensor. Nobody is doing that. A quality independent repair shop will simply transfer your existing Touch ID to the new screen with no problems, same for your original front camera, proximity sensor and ear speaker. However, if an accident happens with your front cam/prox/or ear speaker and it gets damaged during the transfer, the independent repair shop will just replace the part. If the same thing happens with your home button/Touch ID, there are no full original replacement parts available, so the shop will put in an aftermarket home button that has no fingerprint sensor at all. In this case, the phone will no longer have Touch ID, and that can't be solved outside of Apple. However, the home button will work and the phone will not longer be susceptible to error 53 Since Apple realized that bricking phones like this was wrong. No need to update your phone before repair, error 53 is gone now.
If you replace a screen with the screen from another iPhone would you switch the home button? Now that the 53 error is no longer an issue does it matter?
Please you have to work hard and you disconnect Christalh original home button and you made a good cleaning her and the rest of the installation Alchristalh on the new home button process I hope you help correct the installation process
Hello .. I changed out my screen and now I have the error 53 problem and I have the original home button but nothing's working. Is there anyway I can send it to you and get it repaired.
+iPad Rehab: Is the long flex cable your talking about the one that runs from the home button under the plate behind the lcd to the logic board cause I changed that out to and I got the error 53 again.
So in my case, where my phone has never been to a third party repair store or any repairs. It was just lost (the button) how did i void my warranty by simply losing the button? Apple needs to take care of this. I bought two iphone6 plus' dec 2014. brand new on the market phones along with two iphone 5s for my two children. . i spent a hunk of money now stuck with a useless phone
Thank you for making such interesting videos. I have been repairing devices for a little while and your repair techniques are very useful to me. Soldering is my weak point but after watching your videos I have picked up a lot of useful tips. Keep up the good work and keep smiling 😀
i have a iphone 6 that only home button is not working buy fingerprint sensor is working perfectly . i change othe hole flex cable and sensor buy not working ,what should i do.
Hi I think my iPhone 4s is toast, I used a heat gun to dry it , and it glowed for a few seconds and is now dead won't power up or anything, can u give advise on solution? Wanted photos from this phone. Thank you😐
Great to see error 53 finally getting some press this week. Here are my thoughts on Error 53 and the media's portrayal.

THANKS A TON!
yes, you can replace the long flex, no problem.
Hello can you help me please am replacing the screen on a iPad mini 3 what glue should I use to reattach the Touch ID to the new screen
I watch all your videos, I learn a lot from you. I work in a repair shop in Ohio. My goal is to take your classes one day.
And now....no more error 53. Success!

+iPad Rehab Does this update works?
+Никита Ельцов it does, I did it yesterday and it's fine !
+iPad Rehab Does error 53 will affect future versions of iOS (like version 9.3) or no ?
+Cadis di raizel probably not
+iPad Rehab As you predicted. They gave in under pressure from the public.
Good video Jessa glad you posted it and I'm guilty of Jessa justice as well haha!!
I have tried a lot combinations for restoring an iPhone 6 stuck in error 53.
1# I tied placing placing and original home button (not the original original one because that is completely lost did not come with the iPhone that was restored)
2# I tried my original lcd/digitizer home button assembly off my iPhone 6 and nothing to fix it.
+Charles Remensnyder any luck?
Unfortunately, there is no surface on the silicon-chip that can be soldered to. The only way of re-attaching it would be with a wire-bonder.
Yeah, found that one out the hard way :)
+David Pinhal check out this website, he might need help with english.

+Oneness100 Amen, simple calm rational logic wins.
Pretty much what i was thinking, ill just put it up and get another button. I'm not to big on using the touch sensor anyways. Thanks for the advice!
I like this woman. Thanks, you are actually talking everything I concluded about Apple. They are freaks.
We have moved the home button over on the fact of the fingerprint only working with the 1st home button. But we hardly ever moved the ribbon over unless we got some cheap screens with no small parts. I hope to see a ribbon only test.
Finally, Someone who speaks Sense !!!! Shame on you Apple..............
I do not even own an Apple device but I like to watch your videos anyway. Form a new sub.
Hello , great video , can you replaced the cpu chip on the motherboard? That works with that home button ?
Way to much work for error 53. It is a double layer chip and device still has keys in the bbcpu, EEPROM and NAND that are part of chain of trust
+Jessa Jones That's the problem with iOS 9, it won't clear it anymore. We tested this 100%. Made sure the long flex isn't damaged either.
+TheiPhone911 well I'm glad I didn't test this on my personal phone then :)
Jessa,
I would like to use an iPad mini as a cell phone.
I understand that there are ways around this but they don't always work.
The phone carriers are still able to detect whether it is an iPad or iPhone.
I guess what it would actually take is to transplant the electronics from an actual iPhone
and put them in an iPad.
I understand that you might have a screen resolution difference.
You will have a battery difference.
But I thought there was at least there was some way.
Do yo know if this is possible?
Thanks.
No it's not possible
i have a question, is it possible to replace the top lid of the home button while retaining touch id? if so how would you remove it, and what adhesive would you use to put the new one?
no clue. I would not attempt it.
Could you fix my original home button the flex cable has been torn if not where could i send it to be re attached
I am REALLY glad Apple did finally offer a solution for unbricking the iPhones with defective Touch ID. I only encountered a handful of inoperative Touch IDs. Mostly water damage or flex cable torn/bent.
Fantastic Video. Keep up the great work. Nick.
hello. i bought a new original screen and home button from Apple. the problem is that my original home button has the broken cable. if i chang the chip like you did in the video that will work ? if yes. another question. i have the flux to retire the chip. what kind of glue you use to attach the chip ? is th e same flux ?
The point is that this doesn't work. The chip can not be changed. Apple can reprogram the phone with a new screen
+Jessa Jones and if i put a logic board of a 5s? that is possible to work? a iPhone 5s with a 6 design.
Do you know if error 50 on iPhone 6 while restoring is also related to touch ID? Thank you!
thank u for your video , i have question : where did u buy your microscope?
Hi! Thank you for your interest in the equipment we use.
I use several different microscopes here, including an Amscope microscope, that can be purchased at the link below.

You have to transfer original button to preserve Touch ID
Thank you!
thank you for the info I got my grandson 5s bad screen i got a new glass and touch screen assemble.
At the time of this video, you would get error 53 with no home button at all.
thanks for your response:)
I have a question:
I 've changed my screen by myself and i transferred my original home button, but the touch ID did not work and I got error 53 before the update starts.
The video answers this question in the first 15 minutes. Didn't you watch it?
Hello, I am writing you be the turkey we could not help trying to solve the 53 error 're not wearing the original home button?
hi
the machine to calibrate the home botom and the screen cost over $40.000 if you are an apple repair center (Service provider)
also u could buy a damage iphone from ebay and put the original home botom and go to apple for a screen replacmet and as you have a error 53 with a brocken scree they will swap it for a new for a screen cost (£79 in the uk)
Thanks so much!
sure, the long flex is interchangeable.
Hi jessa i have seen a shop in eu that had repair touch id sensor for the iphone 5s 6 without require for old homebutton they replace it with a new oem and reprogram it i brought iphone 6 error 53 to them for fixen without homebutton they fixed for me i was stunned i think soon or later any repair shop could offer this
Sounds like they have a relationship with an Apple Store employee
+privee prive can you please tell us which country in EU is doing the fix? Where is it exactly? i have got 3 iPhone 6 with error 53
+jordan rausch yup, you got it.
+Charles Remensnyder It will never work without the original home button.
What a nice lady, and a great video. You are indeed one very smart cookie!
God bless you and your business,
Matthew, UK.
i tried the new update on iTunes for error 53, and my iPhone 6 was stuck on the boot logo and didn't work.
+Ricardo Silva (Boots) ive tried DFU mode also!
can you help where to find schematics for mac laptops and apple products?
Hi Jessa, would i get Error 53 if a change only the flex under the LCD plate? But still using the original Touch ID Home Button?
Nope. Long flex can be swapped no problem.
+iPad Rehab thanks Jessa
i have a question for you, ok doing a screen replacement on my 6s plus.
+Timmy Johnson yes, or you can get a screen swap at Apple for $149 and it will come with new programmed button
I just replaced the screen so i'm good with not having touch ID. I found a article just after i posted on your video explaining all about the error 53 mishap. i already ordered a new home button, for now i'll use the floating button. Great videos and very informative. Thank you for the reply.
what if you dont move the ribbon over and use the one on the new screen you got? Have you tested it?
i currently have an iphone 6 plus with touch id failure im guessing the touch id has been replaced. (i bought it 2nd hand). im on ios 9 right now. if i update Over the air will i get a problem? or does does error 53 only occur when i update by itunes? thanks
I have iPhone 6 Plus with
original home/Touch ID button but the button cracked and it doesn't work.
+uBreakIt iRepairIt no glue! You are screwing the next guy!
iPad Rehab It's a low adhesive glue.
+Cesar Matos Not with iPhone 5s, error 53 is only with iPhone 6 and similar
Hello Miss, do you have iphone 6 home button schematic?
so error 53 is caused cause of the home flex not being oem or damaged. i have found a work around and updated a phone 8.4 to 9.1 without getting error 53 with a black phone and a white button if you want to learn how please reach out. i do repairs for a living as well and would like to speak to you about your classes i like your videos thanks!
If you do not have the original home screen then no because just like she says in the video it does not match the same coding as the phones coding
so.. if i put a touch id from a repair shop it will work with no problems? :)
Seriously advise you to delete all after 37:02
+Kawitamamayi and why would you advise that? Do you have shares in Apple?
+Kawitamamayi Why?
"is that an iWatch?" "Yeah" "Do you like it" "NO" 😂😂😂😂
+DylanPlays MC :-D
Question, when i change my home button, there is a solution for touch ID (Hardware Solution)? thx
Nope
maybe to fix error 53 is the actual restore process iphone to itunes to apple maybe an alternative way to restore without apple servers home button info is stored to prevent us from changing the original homebutton?
thank you very much for all videos Mrs jessa jones
I have this error 52 after trying to upgrade to IOS9. Several months back I had water damage took my phone to repair shop the replaced the screen but they were asking for $50 for my fingers Scan. I told them to hold off since the phone was working and I was using the on screen display for the power and options. Now I updated the phone and halfway through the update it's given me the error message 52. Took the phone back into the repair shop they said it's not your button it's the cable charge me $45 still the phone is not working after taking it home to do the update. What's the deal with that if the home button is the original button why is it still not trying to update.

Jessa, what about the Touch ID and the Apple Pay connection? Isn't that a reason why the home button needs to be paired to the phone?
Hi,
What about the Error 50?
If you have the original home button and it has never been out of the phone or damaged would you be able to update to iOS 9 with no problems?
Why no try use interface like bus pirate/ logic analycer and debug it or the chip use a encriped bus data?
is it possible to get iphone 6 home button flex repaired if it broken into two parts ?
better solution is to get a new one from apple, they are not expensive
nice work :) i have the same error and i want to know how to recover data from iphone
So, if i have two iPhones, both working fine, if i change touchID one to another one, it won't work, is that correct? thanks
Part of Jessa’s of brain works like a scientist’s brain 🧠
hello friend I have a problem with me iphone 6 does not work at home but already revised and boar problem you have some plan or scheme to solve that problem and voice control is activated every time .. hope thanks reply
Answer

Hi Jessa
im Harry here from fortwayne in.usa
and im a tech.too
i have a iphone 4 water damaged its not turning at all i tested for shorts but didnt find any shror it shows 50 ma on power supply with 3.8 volts replaced bacxklight coil and chip as well but no luck.i need to turn it on so hard cox customer need the pic and data for sure.what i can do next please help.Thanks.
Just measure and test on the board until you find the bad components and replace. There is no magic answer other than open ended troubleshooting
if I buy an iPhone 6 that is for parts for a damaged screen or any other issue.
However, if an accident happens with your front cam/prox/or ear speaker and it gets damaged during the transfer, the independent repair shop
will just replace the part. If the same thing happens with your home button/Touch ID, there are no full original replacement parts available, so the shop will put in an aftermarket home button that has no fingerprint sensor at all.
In this case, the phone will no longer have Touch ID, and that can't be solved outside of Apple. However, the home button will work and the phone will not longer be susceptible to error 53
Since Apple realized that bricking phones like this was wrong.
No need to update your phone before repair, error 53 is gone now.
+Jessa Jones much appreciated!
If you replace a screen with the screen from another iPhone would you switch the home button? Now that the 53 error is no longer an issue does it matter?
yes--unless it is your personal phone and you don't care about preserving fingerprint sensor function
+Nick Bradford Check for a microtear in the long flex
+iPad Rehab: Is the long flex cable your talking about the one that runs from the home button under the plate behind the lcd to the logic board cause I changed that out to and I got the error 53 again.
So in my case, where my phone has never been to a third party repair store or any repairs. It was just lost (the button) how did i void my warranty by simply losing the button? Apple needs to take care of this. I bought two iphone6 plus' dec 2014. brand new on the market phones along with two iphone 5s for my two children. . i spent a hunk of money now stuck with a useless phone
You should be able to clear error 53 with the recent iOS update. Error 53 is no more
Crapple cheap soldering cause my home button to stop working, so i was force to buy a new flex cable and home button
Can you please help me.. I have an error 47 on my iPhone 5s. I have tried everything but it ain't working. I am really annoyed.
Thank you for making such interesting videos. I have been repairing devices for a little while and your repair techniques are very useful to me. Soldering is my weak point but after watching your videos I have picked up a lot of useful tips. Keep up the good work and keep smiling 😀
Will do!
Bonjour Madame lorsque l'iphone 6 affiche un message d'erreur -1 qu'est ce que je dois faire pour resoudre ce probleme

Hi I think my iPhone 4s is toast,
I used a heat gun to dry it , and it glowed for a few seconds and is now dead won't power up or anything, can u give advise on solution? Wanted photos from this phone. Thank you😐
glowing iphones are generally not a good sign, but we can always take a look for data recovery. fill out a quote request on the ipad rehab website
