Love my Amira, really considered stepping up to an Alexa Mini eventually but most Cinematographers I talk to say they’d stick with the Amira, fantastic camera for the price. The weight actually makes it incredibly stable, I’ve run after horses full speed hand held and it looks great.

Honestly to me the weight difference between the two is negligible. I like the Amira more for run and gun as it's just made to quickly be thrown on the shoulder and the buttons on the body are nice too. Really the only thing pushing me to the mini is Open gate and 4:3. How often will I actually use those features though.

That is, Arri is immediately sold with the full functionality, but you also need to buy a permit to use this functionality. There is even a license for a week! You have already paid for all the functions implemented "in metal". There is already software that implements this hardware. So why do they sell the license separately from the hardware? After all, they do not sell software along with additional hardware! The buyer has already paid for all the hardware! Goats.

My decision not to buy ultimately came down to me already heavy invested i Sony. Heck, it even does a few things better than the Amira (much better in low light/4K acquisition in fullframe and s35)
Only thing it can't quite match is those Arri colors....and build quality. But sheesh for 14K, it's quite the camera for the money. The Amira is 9 years old and still goes for TWICE that new, which is criminal in my opinion.

BMD definitely looked long and hard at this camera when they introduced the Ursa Broadcast G2. The flexible format of both broadcast 2/3" ENG/EFP/Studio and full sensor Super35 digital film camera was inspired. I don't think it's take up in broadcast was quite as successful as you suggest though. It's very heavy, power hungry and very expensive, especially with the licences compared to traditional 3 chip ENG cameras and since the introduction of cameras like the PXW-450/750, which are true 4K, with more traditional control placements, eco system and form factors, that ENG/EFP camera people are used to, it was a hard sell and that is perhaps why they haven't really replaced it yet.
