Just when I was looking over your older videos on how to replace the intake manifold, you post this gem. I also got a new intake manifold (it looks literally the same as the one in this video) and planning to install it ASAP, the old one has pretty bad play in the rod. I can't help but think that I should do it immediately.

@@GeorgeAusters I took your comment to heart and started it the very next day, considering that I am a newbie and the unpredictability of the weather in Ireland, after managing to fish out all of the lost equipment under the engine, it took me around 2 days to finish. This is the closest I have ever been to the valves and inner parts of an engine, so I am pretty satisfied that I was able to do this on my own. I was also planning to clean the intake valves from soot, but to my surprise, the valves were only thinly coated. I have not observed a boost in performance, even though the old intake manifold definitely had a leak in it (area around was totally covered in soot) and it wasn't even properly screwed on, with 3 out of 5 bolts being loose 🤦‍♂Thanks again for the videos, I wouldn't have done it without your guidance.

Regarding brass vs. aluminum, brass is somewhat harder than aluminum and can be expected to be harder wearing. The rod could also be stainless steel since many stainless alloys have enough chromium in them to be nonmagnetic. That would be my preferred metal for this application if I were offered a choice.
I certainly hope that the manifold is holding up well for you over many tens of thousands of miles.

Excellent video George. My car is running with a lot of lag when the engine is cold. When the engine reached 100 degree, I can turn off and on engine, and my turbocharger works fine and accelerate if I reach 1800 RPM or more. Kickdown works fine too. Have you any idea what is wrong George? My car has nearly passed 100000 miles. I have replaced the turbocharger after a turbocharge failure, replaced map sensor, replaced 1 Booster pressure solenoid, 1 replaced pressure converter. There are two Booster pressure solenoids and two pressure converter. I think my problem is a glogged intakemanifold. I have checked the price for a new intake manifold from your link. Have you not thought of removing egr and swirl flaps? Removing both on my old 320 gave me an increase of 5mpg on average. Only had 8k miles on it when I did it managed to get just under 70mpg for the next 40k miles. Egr was spotless when deleted but low miles of course, I imagine had I waited it would have been pretty clogged. How often do you clean yours? It doesn't effect the driveability if you do it properly and have it mapped for it.

if your experiencing loss of power and torque be more likely the lack of air flow from coked up manifold.
