    We have a BIG Problem in the US called the EPA that frowns on this stuff. This is one agency that needs to GO Away. They don't care if it destroys your engine or how much it costs you either.
    Your only choices are either buy an older vehicle or take out a loan to repair it. GOV Sucks!

    It also saves your inlet manifold and intake (as well as fuel).

    • @RokoWoju
      @RokoWoju 10 месяцев назад +2

      EGR does not increase fuel consumption actually, in fact its primary function is to recirculate exhaust gases back into intake for leftover unburned fumes to be burned further as this this happens emissions are reduced and fuel consumption goes down as a side effect, it is rather small saving but nevertheless it saves fuel - first EGRs were actually used on American petrol engines for grate effect, fany fact recycling those gasses is rather old trick, but it was limited how much gas could be send back to intake again, because at low revs it would choke engine , so when electronics kicked in in cars they could increase or reduce amount of fumes going back to intake depending of engine speed and load - admittedly EGR isn't ideal for diesel engines because of solid particles in it like to stick to things.

    I had an unfortunate incident with the MOT and DPF. My son bought a Zafira 1.9, with problems. (MIL light on and complaints about DPF regeneration)I did the work on it and found that someone had cut open the DPF and removed the insides. Then welded it up very badly (it was obvious). They hadn't remapped the ECU, so hence the warning lights. I thought no problem. No DPF, one less thing to go wrong. Got a local tuning firm to re-map it, without the DPF program. Everything was fine until it was MOT time. My son (unwittingly) took it to an establishment that I had, had problems with before. They failed it, because they SAW that the DPF had been tampered with. We had no option (apart from scrapping a 2013 car), but to put a new DPF on it. I took it back to the tuning firm, to have the mapping put back to OE. They did however tell me that they left the EGR program out and were surprised that the MOT place had failed it. So beware, SOME MOT places may 'observe' tampering and act like Greta's goons, and fail you. Of course, it is all on computer record, so other garages may feel obliged to follow suit.

    If you have concerns about the car failing MRT inspection you could just apply blind gaskets on either side of the egr cooler and keep it there as i have done in my e46.
    At that point only water flows in the cooler and no risk of it goint to the intake.

    All well and good but please remember you have to tell your insurance company that your engine is modified. Removing the EGR is the same mod as removing your catalytic converter or your diesel particle filter. If you don't tell them and your car is involved in an accident and they find out they might not pay out . My daughter works for an insurance company and they will do anything to avoid paying out and this gives them an excuse.

    Nice job, just clean the EGR and keep in box. Just in case it gets noticed on test, then can reinstall. Should of blanked number plate aswell. I took the valve out and checked it to see if it was closed(wasn't working anyway. Have a new one in box. Plugged in new one just to check wiring). It was closed so removed all pins and bypassed the water pipe on the EGR. Get 3 fault codes in ISTA but no warning light on dash. Driven about 300miles seems fine.

    The title is misleading. The EGR system is not actually evil and all vehicles over the last quarter century have some form of it, either through an external system or implemented through the valvetrain so an external valve and pipework is not needed.
    At first, I was going to give this video a downvote. I actually gave it an upvote, because one of the reasons for removal is the possibility of failure leaking coolant into the engine.
    My own vehicle had a faulty EGR system. I fitted a restrictor plate as the simplest and cheapest solution, as well as being relatively invisible, doesn't put the MIL on and still allows some of the benefits of EGR.
