- It’s one of most popular talks right now with the long-lost arcade game, SegaSonic Bros., making its way into the limelight. It’s so popular, that it’s already been converted to work with the Mega Drive (Genesis)! Found by ShouTime, and ported over by Dustin M. O’Dell, it’s time to give this game the mini review it deserves!

Dustin has done some amazing work on this as well as ripping music from games that proved to be a bit difficult such as Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition. I've mentioned to him in the past that if he ever joins Retro, he'll be getting a nomination to Tech Membership from me. xD Nice video RHS!
I really like how Sonic looks like a mini version of his Master System appearance in gameplay.
It looks a lot more like the Game Gear sprites (at least from Sonic 1)
This was a fun review of a game I wasn't aware about. There were some interesting twists in comparison to Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine with regards to the core gameplay. The presentation was simple, but fresh. Looking forward to seeing a live stream of this, even some 2 player rounds.
Do not worry, guys. My Sonic Chaos review is still on the way and will hopefully be out before January ends! Watch this space! :D

Well, technically SegaSonic Bros was never officially released, so they probably just went with the closest thing they could.

Interestingly, the concept of the game is sort of the same as well - you make an enclosure with the same colour, just like how you would with turning the blue spheres red - so the Sonic 3 Special Stages must've been inspired by this scrapped game
Color Sonics in a nutshell:
Blue Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog
Red Sonic - RedHotSonic
Yellow Sonic - SuperSonic
White Sonic - HyperSonic but still remain White, Dulux Sonic, or Silver the Hedgehog
Pink Sonic - Sonia the Hedgehog
Green Sonic - Manic the Hedgehog
Black Sonic - Shadow the Hedgehog
Pink Sonic = Amy Rose

The game ends at Level 99, with a message saying "YOU ARE SUPER PLAYER!". I found out by changing some settings in the Genesis dump, and in the high score screen, it shows the time it took to get to level 99.
SEGA could've released this there's nothing wrong with it. Luckily now they don't have to because ShouTime ported it! Awesome now everyone can play it!
The arcade didn't make it in the western side because of a failed japanese localization.

I think the reason it didn't come out is because Sega didn't want a second major puzzler like this, with how insanely successful Columns was in Japanese arcades. (Seriously, a lot of westerners don't even know Columns was an arcade game, let alone one that was EVERYWHERE)

I'm really glad that this MD convertion by Dustin was made, looking for messy situation with arcade version of the game, I'm guessing it will take a long time before (if ever) we'll see "original" arcade rom in the internet.
Good review, very nice! Although I admit that you seem to be much better player in this game than me, somehow I still have problems with unusual way of making connections in this game (loops or "semi-loops"). I'm starting to understand though why this game was eventually scraped, seems to be a bit too "sophisticated" for arcade game, which must be as self-explanatory and intuitive, as possible. Of course it doesn't mean that game's concept itself is bad, but IMO rather not fitting too well to arcade machine. Still, admit that I've enjoyed Dustin's port and I'm playing it from time to time.
Another plus side is, that this game clearly confirms, that RedHotSonic is canon character, from the very beginning. We can't deny it anymore!
Well, sorry to say this, but you can't really download the port anymore as the person responsible for it has had their account suspended, so for those who didn't get the port (unfortunately, myself included), you guys are out of luck.

This game came out WAY before sonic 3 was even planned. However, the special stage music fron sonic 3 made it into this game. Which means sonic 3 stole the music from this game.

The 8B music doesn't really fit with the motif of the game's music, I thought. It's a heavier than the cheery, upbeat music on the rest of the soundtrack.
