"He saw his work as some kind of sacred calling, more important than any personal relationship" hmmm I wonder who that reminds me of
That's why he says he is who he is now because of his father 🤷🏾♂️ house never did say he is a good son or a good person
"Maybe if he'd been a better father I'd be a better son". This one hit like a freight train.
"I am who I am because of him. For better or for worse."

The moment house starts to sob, Wilson already knows he's up to something 😂
Can't really blame House we've heard about his Dad & he can't stand him. & no amount of platitudes at his funeral would change anything.
"He punished failure, and he did not accept anything less than..."
The very moment House realized he was describing himself.
House didn't punish anyone under him for failure or making mistakes like his father did. He was blunt and maybe offensive, but he did nothing more than hold someone accountable and let them know they need to do better. He didn't punish Thirteen when her oversight killed a man, he never punished Cameron for letting her emotions get the better of her and drove her to make mistakes. What he had in common with his father is that he strove for perfection in his job and held it above his own well being and what other people thought of him.
House never punished failure, but he forced people to learn from their failures. He always gave the choice to learn from it or quit.
@@lennard9331 true, but it is also true that many people would describe House exactly as he described his father.
@@FelipeKana1 true, but if you've watched the first 2.5 seasons, the fact that most of what people at PPTH say about him is just a self projection of the disappointment au what they expect how he should act like a "normal person" and not actually about who he really is is a major theme of his relationships should be obvious.
Imagine having to roofie someone to take them to their dads funeral 😄
They'd have to put me in a coma to get me to my sperm donor's funeral. House thinks His dad was bad......doesn't even Begin to hold a candle to mine.

Does anyone else think Wilson is adorable when he's winding the crank to charge the flashlight battery?
One of the most important scenes in the series is the euology. Wilson was really done with House up until he saw him actually do something selfish regarding the speech for his mom and admitting the truth. That brought Wilson back to House... Even if he did it to DNA test him.
I think that what House is saying about his father matches absolutely to himself too. He also punishes failure, he always disrespects those below him, he also sees his work like a duty etc
Abuse aside, the reason they didn't get along was they were too alike.
House's funeral only had people who worked below him and his friend Wilson. Not even Cuddy. He proved he cares for each of them while making it hard for everyone higher ranked than him. He took responsibility to protect those below him even though they are the one screwing up (like the time Chase got stabbed)
"He punished failure, and he did not accept anything less than..."
The exact moment House realized he was describing himself.
I don't get it why people is saying House punishes failure lmao, he's sarcastic and cruel, but he don't punishes failure, he's happy of punishes idiocy which is not the same. When Foreman killed a patient, House wasn't angry. When Chase killed Divala, the same. When people failed for racional reason, he was really kind with them.
That is wrong, tf? House doesn't just disrespect everyone below him. He disrespects everyone. Impartial. Everyone at his funeral were people with less power and responsibility than him.
"I am what I am because of him, for better or for worse."
Nah, the "worse" part is because of him. The "better" part is because of your mother.
House had great delay tactics.

I saw a lot of comments about how they admire House and Wilson's friendship but overall, House is a bad friend. His only redeeming point was when he helped Wilson go through with the cancer battle but even that, he only did it because his friend is already at the end of the line which left him no choice but to get it together. If you remove the cancer part, he'll continue to treat his bestfriend like a doormat. Like, how many times does Wilson need to utter these words - "We're not friends anymore, House" and take him back again?
Even if House was unapologetically honest and blunt to Wilson for his benefit and came in handy sometimes, there were still a lot of times that he went overboard for the sake of "testing" how far their friendship can go and put Wilson through in ridiculous situations.
I bet if House was premiered today, it will garner a lot of criticism about romanticizing toxic friendships/relationships and honestly, it deserves to be criticized. You can't always use pain or misery as an excuse to hurt or inconvenience people. The only reason why he's getting away with it is because of his brilliance which feeds his ego more.
I like the show to pieces but after a few reruns, I came to realized that there were a lot of elements that are truly problematic.
*liquid vicodin"😂
"I don't care that you didn't like him. He was your father and he loved you." Man I hate this plot line out of everything House has to offer. Writing criticism incoming.
If any person has a bad relationship with their parent it is 99.9% of the time the parent's fault and it always starts from childhood. House "realizing" that he's like his father because of it is just further evidence of why you should treat your kids right. Mom failed that by forcing her son into something that would cause him pain and grief for a human being he never cared for. She also failed by never opposing and divorcing an abusive husband. She was wrong, Jon House did not love his son, and his title of "father" is meaningless in his entire absence to fulfill that role meaningfully for Greg.
Baths in ice, locked out of the house, treating him different for not being his biological son which he definitely realized himself long before Greg confronted him on it. I hate that they wrote him later on to be a supposed "good father" worthy of keeping mementos of. This was a plot line that really lost the plot imo. Wilson acting the way he does is just to stick it to house, not because his mother kindly requested it. Mom forcing her son to do something nice for her abusive husband. Mom never standing up to the guy. It all reads like a bad plot imo. But change my mind if you feel differently. Realistic for the time it aired? Maybe but I'm unsure. As someone who has bad family, I'd sooner cut out more family and friends than be forced to attend the funeral of my abuser. That's more realistic to me.
Thank God there's like 10s of significantly better plot lines.
I am sad to say this, but having seen the reality, a lot of people do capitulate to keep the peace. What oftentimes happens when one parent is abusive is that the child becomes even more attached to the parent that isn't, seeing them as a protector, rather than enabling the abuse. Should Wilson and Cuddy have forced him to go, no, but does stuff like this happen, yes though in a less extreme way of cajoling and guilting the person.
I’m guessing you’re taking this personal because you’re projecting?
@@vatsalverma6926 OP is not projecting. OP clearly and openly mentioned their family being a bad one. OP is connecting to House's POV because of that.
And being from a bad family is not OP's fault, but you seem to be doing a character judgement on OP because of this.
Please don't have kids or you may "project" a lot of your own stuff onto them too.
And btw OP is right.
As the other commenter mentioned, many people will willingly put themselves through having to pretend to mourn abusers because any variety of reasons, usually being that kicking up a fuss about it only invites people that supposedly love you to shun you for daring to sully their name.
Everybody around you only has good things to say about this abuser, and you start to convince yourself that maybe you're the problem, that maybe they were actually a good person and all the abuse you experienced was just in your head or that at the very least, instead of them being a monster that was awful to you, they're "nuanced" and "complex".
Since when is Hollywood realistic?
It would be nice to make a continuation of House. At least one TV movie. Even a monster like Dexter has a sequel...

While I don't think House should have to get up there and give a eulogy about his abuser, I think it was right for him to go to be there for his mom. Funerals are for the living and if he loves his mom he will be there for her because she's grieving even if he's not.

Nope. They were pretty regular.
We actually don't know who Houses biological father is, and as for mother, we don't get any specific indications of very high or very low intelligence.

I agree with Wilson on this one. Even though we might pretend to be above our primal emotions, like familial ties, we as humans crave reconciliation. Either everyone deserves forgiveness because we’re all human, or nobody deserves forgiveness. Because we’re all human.
You are oversimplifying this. Yes, most humans (At least starting out) seek to bond with their parents. It's innate in nature.
However, people can grow to hate or resent their parents to a degree where they don't care anymore. Part of them may still wish they could have had a solid relationship, but when some people are done they are just done.
Additionally, it would depend on what the parent did. The whole "We all deserve or all don't deserve forgivness" isn't realistic.
The degree of what was done to other people, and whether that person who caused the suffering even has any ability to emote at all, can play a factor.
Not everyone deserves (nor does anybody have the right to) forgiveness. That is based upon each individual and each situation.
Spoken like someone who was never abused.
No. You have no obligation to forgive anyone who abused you. That's not how the real world works.
You're correct, nobody deserves forgiveness. Nobody deserves anything. If you hurt someone and want forgiveness, work hard to earn it instead of dying and leaving all the responsibility of managing your shitty behaviour and it's consequences to the living.
