Custom Boba Fett Helmet - Rubies Deluxe updated!

- The last time I customized this helmet, the Sarlacc Survivor Special Edition, it was before The Mandalorian Season 2 aired, so we didn't know what Boba Fett's helmet would look like after some time in a Sarlacc. Now we do! First seen worn by "The Marshal" in S02E01, later reclaimed by the most infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy himself, in S02E06, "The Tragedy." Not screen accurate, but I tried to capture the overall impression.

Wow, that is awesome. I don't have the creative confidence to do this on my helmet. I've painted several weapons, thats about it.

@@daveofalltrades805 I’m stuck between wanting it pristine or weathered. So I’m using that salt trick on one of the ear pieces to see if I like it before I decide on the rest
I never thought I’d dig the clean look until Boba walked off that ship with the repaint. Hot damn. Keep me posted okay?
@@daveofalltrades805 it’s practically done. Salt trick worked amazingly. I did run into one issue. When I tried to put a clear coat over one of the ear pieces it did give that crackling affect. But it didn’t on my other ear piece. So I may just not risk it and not put that over the helmet cuz I’ll be really upset if I put in all that work and I’m basically done but the clear coat is what ruins it lol

Nice job! I had the latex create a texture on my silver base coat, but it actually looks good. It gives a similar appearance to how aluminum corrodes.
Thanks man! That latex can be unpredictable huh. I’ve been playing around with toothpaste for chip masks too- comes off clean, smells great, but I need to nail the technique a little better. Always more to learn
Love this! I recently had a go at turning my Rubies Boba helmet into the Cobb/Boba Mando S2 version but it was my first attempt at anything like that so it wasn't the best job. But your video makes me want to give it another go, especially trying the latex and salt trick! Had no idea about that on my first try

I think that the helmet looked slightly better before the touch up silver. Made it look more worn down

Hm, I am not even sure if screen accuracy is even possible here. You just do not have clear reference from all sides. Trying to join the Mando Mercs, I should try screen accuracy, but I am afraid a close approximation is all I can do...

Dude, you are not wrong. They’ve been impossible to get! I’m sure the show has driven up demand and all that, but they’ve had plenty of time to ramp up production. I’m starting to suspect Disney intentionally limited the Rubies production to steer consumers towards the Hasbro Black Series helmets - but even those are almost entirely preorders at the moment :( Anyway, ranting aside, I have a back-in-stock notice on the amazon listing but so far it hasn’t helped. Other than that I keep an eye out on eBay just in case
Is it really made from some sort of metal??
No, it’s plastic, but in this video it started covered with iron paint and intentionally rusted from a previous version. The rusty paint effect was cool but I wanted to try my hand at show Boba

Where do you get the base helmets?
They have been tough to get a hold of since the show started up. I have a back-in-stock notification on the amazon listing and I keep an eye on eBay too. This one I repainted from a previous version so I didn’t have to buy it this time
