Probably been asked this, but did you edit your voice in post or with a comms machine? Looking for a voice amp that I can use with my helmet that does this effect.
This is really cool! Things I would have done different: A. Colors of my own choice. B. Tiny motor to move range finder up and down controlled from wrist mounted switch. C. Silver for the view T opening so my bounty/victim was looking at themselves like a mirror. Your results are awesome and I like the using salt ideal.
"I like to add more a little at a time... until I realize, CRAP, I've gone too far... and try to undo it... and that's when I stop." I believe this is what the technique is called. Sure, it's a long name, but EVERY maker uses it. I know I do. And anyone who says they don't is a liar. 😁
I can't read every comment but I'm sure someone has chummed in and told you that is not actual Bondo product that you need but Bondo is a company name. That is a plastic filler for small imperfections and it may work for you actually in this but regular Bondo is one part filler one part hardener and we'll get hot as it's a chemical process this is used for feeling bigger areas like the dent in the helmet and dries a lot faster than the stuff you're using there. overall overall though looks really good and I like the voice over a lot!
I’ve found a much easier way to remove the visor; simply score the outer edge of the “glass” with a hobby knife. Then tap the edges of the visor with a blunt object, like a small hammer or the bottom end of your knife. Then just sand down the remaining shards and you’re good to go
That crackling effect from the paint is called orange peel or a similar result from not allowing the paint below to dry for at least 3-5 days this turned out epic though great job!
The only thing I’d say is you should use body filler instead of spot putty on big gaps. Spot putty is fine for pinholes but won’t dry all the way through or take forever on big gaps and is more prone to cracking.
So the hairspray technique doesn't need the salt really. You can just apply a coat of hairspray and then paint and later use water to remover the hairspray with a stiff brush. Not sure how well it works with lacquer paint but it's perfect for acrylics
Your videos have inspired me to do my own bucket! I plan on doing the fett helmet from his first appearence on The Mandalorian, the paint mostly eaten away by the acid in the sarlacc.
