I DGAF what anyone says, I know that I lived during the greatest musical time - EVER! Does anyone think that kids today have anything near Soul Coughing? ....NO, the answer is no, they don't.

@@chestersmith2886 Yeah, Jon Stewart had the best musical guests of all the late night shows back then by far. I used to program my VCRs to record it every night. Kept all those tapes for years. I also remember seeing Marilyn Manson perform Lunchbox on Jon Stewart back when he was an unknown new artist. Satchel’s performance was pretty memorable too.

Saw these guys do a great opening set for They Might Be Giants in Peoria, IL. Believe that was also early-mid 1995.

"You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
    You come down to this
Nerves are up and the eyes all screwy
Blood like a panful of boiling ratatouille
My muscles in a mess like a mess of spaghetti
Hack through the mess with a greased-up machete
Hang from the axles of a boxcar
Follow the dotted line like a steer to Chicago
But to the hooks of the Chicago man
    And I said, well
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
    You come down to this
I get all tripped up -- my eyes turn to water
Rug burns from a shag rug, struck dumb in the presence
Polyester burns from a jacket rub the skin thin
Break down in a diner then I paid the bill
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
    You come down to this
Cashier toothpick stuck in the ground
Tiny lawnmower to mow me down
I could get lost in a lunchbox
Lie low in the mittens in the lost and found
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
You get the ankles and I'll get the wrists
    You come down to this"

In a podcast last year, he actually revealed he attempted to reform soul coughing and reached out to the other members. But it was shot down pretty quick by them. He's now friends with Sebastian though.

Awesome performance. But why is Mike holding his guitar if he doesn't even play it throughout the whole song? Even the guitar part during the verse is from mark's sampler.

because if he sets it down and leaves it unattended he bass player is probably going to fuck with the tuning. soul coughing was a tortured band where neurotic drug-addicted mike doughty constantly battled with the rest of neurotic drug-addicted band. doughty wrote a book check it out

@@whatismindnomatter no doubt much of Mike’s problems with SC were of his own making. I’ve only met him more recently and he seems like a nice and sincere guy - probably because he’s learned some hard lessons in the meantime? Bottom line for me, as far as SC goes, is what did the other guys do after the band split up. There’s nobody who’s ever done anything remotely like the music of Soul Coughing, but you can hear some of it in some of Mike’s solo works.

Totally. One of my favorite bands, MD acts like he was the musical catalyst and tells stories at his show of how the other bandmates were mean while he was on heroin. Such a cool live performance but things bum me out about that guy.
