This has become one of my Favorite Events to attend.
Unofficial Black Bike Week in Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach has a very interesting history. My grandfather told me back when he was young, the discriminations in Daytona Beach was very clear and evident. Black Vendors had a hard time selling products and getting a spot on Main Street aka Beach side, so to help their community and make some money on the other side of the tracks, Black Bike Week was set up near one of the most known HBCUs in Florida, Bethune Cookman University.
"The necessity for separation was created by segregation during Daytona Bike Week’s dark past. Black Bike Week - on Second Avenue (since renamed Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune Blvd) - has grown to be the laid-back alternative to the crazy world of Cole-slaw Wrestling, high prices, machismo at the silicone-enhanced version of the event.
Visitors to the annual Daytona Beach Bike Week celebration have taken home many, many traffic citations as souvenirs. But the story of biker legend Tommy Asberry during the Daytona Bike Week of 1971 has to be among the most memorable of them all.
“I was ticketed for parking my Harley-Davidson Electra Glide in among all the Hondas and Triumphs on Main Street,” said Asberry. “The police told me I couldn’t be parking a bike there, leaking oil like that, so I had to move along.”
Of course, oil-seeping Harleys are as much a part of the Daytona scene as overpriced beer and cheap T-shirts you’ll never wear. Asberry’s problem wasn’t the color of the 40-weight dripping from his crankcases - it was the color of his skin.
And like tens of thousands of other black motorcyclists who showed up for - but were eventually turned away from - Bike Week during the rally’s early years, Asberry eventually found a more hospitable place to park his motorcycle. The social conditions that contributed to bogus traffic tickets and parking citations for black riders may have changed or transformed a bit during the last five decades, but Daytona’s Second Avenue (Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune Blvd), a three-block collection of Baptist churches, hair salons, and bars, continues to thrive.
Ever since the Second Avenue scene emerged out of bitterness and necessity in 1949 it continues to grow in popularity. It is this spirit of resilience that keeps Black Bike Week together, as it attracts an international mix of riders who, like the founders, come looking for a more family-oriented alternative to the raucous, corporate-sponsored mayhem of Daytona’s Main Street."

Very sweet bikes right here!! I've always wondered what it was like riding on anything past a 23in front wheel. I have a heritage classic and a Softail Slim one with 21, the other with a 23in fat spoke front wheel and I can definitely feel the weight with the raked HHI triple tree!!lol......I've always given props and been respectful to other bikers and I appreciate the art man, it's not supposed to appeal to everyone but there is always a flavor for everyone as far as custom work goes. The possibilities are endless man!

Question im curious: Why is it labeled BLACK BIKE WEEK? I've never heard of White bike week..... Like why label Black Panther..... you dont say White Superman. Or like BET Black entertainment TV..... i have not seen a WET White entertainment TV..... seems weird black is used as a label ...... I think labels divide us.

"Black Bike Week was born in 1971, after a Black biker said he was told to leave the Bike Week event on Main Street on the beachside, supposedly because his Harley Davidson was dripping oil. He and other Black bikers formed their own event, an informal annual gathering that features music, food and vendors at Joe Harris Park, at the corner of Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Green Street."

What part of Daytona is black bike week part and when is it??
Bike week is twice a year in March and October. It's not specifically black. Black people congregate together and white people congregate together but it's not specifically neither.
This is not black bike week, it is Daytona Bike Week which has been going on for many years. I was told by some of the older black bikers that in the 60's and 70's blacks wasn't welcomed over near the beach so the Brothers started hanging out at Mary Bethune Cookman college campus and it's just an alternative to hanging out at the beach. There's big fun on both sides. Whites come to the Bethune Cookman side also. I don't like the term Black Bike Week because some whites feel alienated. It's all about people who love motorcycles ! My local Harley dealer had a free even last weekend. Free burgers, pizza, drinks and a concert. I've ridden dirt bikes for years and I was seriously considering buying a Harley.
On the way to the dealer 2 guys in mustangs flew by me doing at least 90 then cut back in traffic and hit a Ford F 150, then a semi truck had to slam on brakes because he was tailgating a car and traffic slowed down.
All this happening within the span of 10 minutes. So it dawned on me, Wouldn't I be kinda stupid to buy a Bike and get on the road with these Idiots ?
I've known people to get paralyzed and killed riding Bikes, so I feel that I've made the correct adult decision of self preservation to leave the Bike riding to you brave (crazy) people who don't mind the risk.

And then there are the ones who regrets to not have tried when they could....my dad was modifying harley throughout my youth...moving forward 30years I only got to pass my full bike licence coulple of yeara ago...I can only say one think I wish I ve done it before....

It's not a black bike week it's just bike week. Therw are areas where the blacks hang out and there are areas where the whites hangout but both are in both areas it's not just a one race bike week it's for anyone with any kind of bike

The last year I went was 2009 and it was already starting to look ghetto. You couldn't pay me enough to head there now, nor the poker run to the keys. It's all gone dark.
Daytona was very segregated and didn't want blacks participating in Bike Week so we came up with our own. Yall may not like it but your wives do ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
