My father and Mr. Shearing died within hours of each other in 2011. He admired Shearing greatly, as I always have, so I like to imagine the shared the same elevator ride upstairs.
The very first record I bought was a "78" MGM 571 George Shearing on the A side "Lullaby of Birdland" and on the B side "When lights are low" .That was 70 years ago - the sound and the memory are still fresh with me.
ESTA MÚSICA DE BRUBECK, É UM MARAVILHOSO POEMA LIRICO E BRILHANTE, QUE TOCA FUNDO NO CORAÇÃO DE TODOS NÓS !!! A INTERPRETAÇÃO DE SHEARING É SUBLIME !!!
Nope, not Dave Young who did a lot of work with Oscar Peterson. It's another great Canadian jazz musician, Neil Swainson. George had lots of Canadians in his bands over the years...Don Thompson (who over the years played bass, vibes and even piano with George), Reg Schwager on guitar, Jerry Fuller on drums, and over the yearsWarren Chiasson and Hagood Hardy on vibes.

Untouchable - GS, sightless, performing into his 80s - I saw him, a truly charming gent!
LOFTmusic.....at the peak of never come back times...Gasteig Klaviersommer and so on.....Mr. Nida-Rümelin killed it....!!
A great artist....
Ah, George Shearing with his locked hands technique. What an artist!!
That's called 'block chords', if we talk about the same thing. It gives beautiful sound in the medium of the piano.
A true artist!
