The weird thing about all of this is that I do not oppose the idea in any way. Just look at the dlc for tlou 1, it was confirmed a long time ago that she was a lesbian, and look how many people that made happy. The problem lies in the way it was presented- it starts off immediately with buildup to the kiss and then ends with it all in the same. As if to say “Hey! Look! This character is gay!” I’m completely fine with her as a character and/or her own sexuality, but I do think they could’ve taken a better step in portraying the idea without making it seem like it’s the only force driving the story. From a perspective of a writer, I’d imagine that if you were to mention it in there, but not carry it out through the entire trailer, that’d be great. It all depends on what you cater to the audience and how you present it. One idea can be showcased in a myriad of different ways, and you have to find the one that best suits your target audience and demographic.

Thats not the problem Techstorian OW. TLOU tells stories about people. We know Joel had a family but the zombie apokalypse destroyed it. After that it was just about survival. He never trusted anyone fully and didn't want to bond with anyone (Ellie in particular). But he became a father figure to Ellie it just happened. So he protects her, tells some stories about the past, is teaching her things and finally...trusts her. At first he was cold/ detached, just wanted to complete the mission and later on bonded with Ellie. Romance wasn't important for him at this point, just survive and protect Ellie. Now Ellie's story. She was born into the zombie apokalypse and doesn't know anything else as to live in constant fear(had to grow up fast). Ellie also lost her family and another person she deeply cared about. In the dlc she realized that there were deeper feelings for Riley after Riley decided not to go. In Ellie's head it was like "omg thank you. I really didn't want you to leave...again." But you know what happened then. Ellie also became cold/ detached but later on bonded with Joel. Few years later (this trailer) they seem to be in a safe place and can live a somewhat normal life (?). Ellie is still young (so romance can play an important role) and this scenario allows a bit normalcy for her which she experiences for the first time: a normal dance (party?) and in her case a bit fear because people are staring at them (literally no one would care if it was a guy [ingame and in the gamer community]). She is >just a girl (not a threat)< who happens to like girls. And that's a part of her story/ character development ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So the problem is that people don't understand the human brain and feelings/ emotions. Every person is unique and not a political statement. Other than that, I'm excited to learn more about Ellie (and Joel) and want to know her plan for revenge (and why)! (I hope my point came across and I didn't ramble to much. Sorry for any spelling mistakes)

Ron I can agree with that, and it is certainly unique, I just disagree with the direction they took the story. There are parts of this game that are incredible, but so many parts seem drawn out and it often feels like the developers are forcing you to like certain characters for the story to progress. It’s certainly a masterpiece, but it is by no means perfect.

I flip flop back and forth between loving it and hating it, so I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I understand why Joel had to die, and I don't really have a problem with that by principle. I understand the story and complex messages it tries to portray, but I just disagree on the direction they took the story on a fundamental level. Not that the writing is awful, though it does have some problems, just that I was looking forward to more time with Joel and Ellie, and it feels like nearly half of the game's potential time that it could have spent focusing on that relationship was spent on fleshing out Abby's section of the story. Abby's section is engaging, and I get why it's necessary, but I still can't shake that feeling of disappointment that we didn't get to see more of Joel and Ellie. And that's just my own personal opinion, certainly not an objective criticism. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

Interactive movie ? you're being selfish right now, we clearly see in the gameplay trailer that the combat system has been improved, and players know the the combat system on the first one was a really fun experience I didn't bought Beyond Two Souls cause I know it is actually an interactive movie, however The Last Of Us is clearly not a movie, it is a video game with a good varied gameplay, good scenario with good characters, and I won't talk about graphism. re-doing a flawless fight sequence in the first one was a really fun and challenging thing to do. Funny people accuse Naughty Dogs of SJW (even if they are) by putting a gay kiss between Ellie and that chick. When it has been confirmed since years that Ellie was and is a lesbian. That kiss she got is to show how good things can still happen to her because it was made sure she is all about revenge.

The weird thing about all of this is that I do not oppose the idea in any way. Just look at the dlc for tlou 1, it was confirmed a long time ago that she was a lesbian, and look how many people that made happy.
The problem lies in the way it was presented- it starts off immediately with buildup to the kiss and then ends with it all in the same. As if to say “Hey! Look! This character is gay!”
I’m completely fine with her as a character and/or her own sexuality, but I do think they could’ve taken a better step in portraying the idea without making it seem like it’s the only force driving the story.
From a perspective of a writer, I’d imagine that if you were to mention it in there, but not carry it out through the entire trailer, that’d be great. It all depends on what you cater to the audience and how you present it. One idea can be showcased in a myriad of different ways, and you have to find the one that best suits your target audience and demographic.

What we care is if those relationships are unorganic(same applies for those generic action movies with a girl and boy lead) or if a character is strong purely because they’re a female. If the character is compelling and the story is written well, anyone would love it regardless of a boy or girl. Lots of examples of this like Wonder Woman, ahsoka, and manny other female leads. Thats not the problem Techstorian OW. TLOU tells stories about people. We know Joel had a family but the zombie apokalypse destroyed it. After that it was just about survival. He never trusted anyone fully and didn't want to bond with anyone (Ellie in particular). But he became a father figure to Ellie it just happened. So he protects her, tells some stories about the past, is teaching her things and finally...trusts her.
At first he was cold/ detached, just wanted to complete the mission and later on bonded with Ellie. Romance wasn't important for him at this point, just survive and protect Ellie.
Now Ellie's story. She was born into the zombie apokalypse and doesn't know anything else as to live in constant fear(had to grow up fast). Ellie also lost her family and another person she deeply cared about. In the dlc she realized that there were deeper feelings for Riley after Riley decided not to go. In Ellie's head it was like "omg thank you. I really didn't want you to leave...again." But you know what happened then. Ellie also became cold/ detached but later on bonded with Joel. Few years later (this trailer) they seem to be in a safe place and can live a somewhat normal life (?). Ellie is still young (so romance can play an important role) and this scenario allows a bit normalcy for her which she experiences for the first time: a normal dance (party?) and in her case a bit fear because people are staring at them (literally no one would care if it was a guy [ingame and in the gamer community]). She is >just a girl (not a threat)< who happens to like girls.
And that's a part of her story/ character development ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So the problem is that people don't understand the human brain and feelings/ emotions. Every person is unique and not a political statement.
Other than that, I'm excited to learn more about Ellie (and Joel) and want to know her plan for revenge (and why)!

Ron I can agree with that, and it is certainly unique, I just disagree with the direction they took the story. There are parts of this game that are incredible, but so many parts seem drawn out and it often feels like the developers are forcing you to like certain characters for the story to progress. It’s certainly a masterpiece, but it is by no means perfect.

I flip flop back and forth between loving it and hating it, so I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I understand why Joel had to die, and I don't really have a problem with that by principle. I understand the story and complex messages it tries to portray, but I just disagree on the direction they took the story on a fundamental level. Not that the writing is awful, though it does have some problems, just that I was looking forward to more time with Joel and Ellie, and it feels like nearly half of the game's potential time that it could have spent focusing on that relationship was spent on fleshing out Abby's section of the story. Abby's section is engaging, and I get why it's necessary, but I still can't shake that feeling of disappointment that we didn't get to see more of Joel and Ellie. And that's just my own personal opinion, certainly not an objective criticism. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

I didn't bought Beyond Two Souls cause I know it is actually an interactive movie, however The Last Of Us is clearly not a movie, it is a video game with a good varied gameplay, good scenario with good characters, and I won't talk about graphism. re-doing a flawless fight sequence in the first one was a really fun and challenging thing to do.
